Axel Hotel San Sebastián - Adults Only

Nice and quiet. Breakfast was good. Gym was substantial for a hotel - well equipped. Sauna and spa were good after a day of exploring.

Parking not always available but we did know this before hand. Do not leave your car unattended outside the hotel. Parking police regularly patrol it and there is nowhere to unload really. Requested a twin room but on checkin wasn’t available. They did ‘upgrade’ us to a ‘superior’ room (I would call it superior) to a small king bed which my 18 yo and I had to share. The bathroom layout is very strange and be aware of it especially if sharing with teenage son or someone you don’t know well. The toilet and basin have a solid door. Next to it is the shower with glass stepping out into and area that has a light curtain covering it. Also, there is small window as the bed head. This isn’t private at all and a little tricky to cover up so it is.

Our initial plans were thrown into chaos due to the air traffic control debacle at LGW so we missed our first night at the hotel, although on arrival and throughout our stay, the staff consistently went the extra mile to make it up and ensure we had a fantastic break - they were all friendly and awesome. The hotel is modern, minimal and welcoming. The rooms were clean, airy and comfortable and the mattresses were firm, how we like them. Our view was to the street below so if you are after a sea view you won’t find it here, but if you are ok with a hotel in a delightful local area a short 5 minute walk from the beach Axel is perfect. And the spa is a refreshing place to spend an hour if the main areas become overwhelming. I should also mention the sun terrace and plunge pool, another welcomed refuge if you need to take some time out.

No restaurant or bar.

Modern design, clean and lots of light. Good space in rooms, however Design seem to overrule practicality in some cases.

Car parking wasn't available at the building, the alternative is 5 mins walk away. A bit clearer expectation management on the 'adults only' label. We believed it reflects to no children running around, but it turned out to refer to "hetero friendly" policy. No problem, but it came as a surprise.

Room layout - the bathroom is behind the bed and is not private as it open apart from a door to the toilet There is no wardrobe or any storage in the bedroom. There is an open area in the bathroom with some hanging space and 2 drawers There are no towel rails for used towels nor any space for personal toiletries There is no headboard on the bed so it’s difficult to relax sitting in bed without support. There was only one comfortable chair in the room for 2 people. Two are needed as it’s not possible to sit up in bed easily - however another was provided when asked. There is no dressing table in the bedroom nor any mirrors in the bedroom

Hotel with gym, spa and pool facilities. You have everything you need in the hotel. A good selection in the minibar. I booked a single room but it is actually spacious for 1 person, I was expecting a single bed but its a sizeable double bed. The hotel a situated near the beach, less than 10 minutes walk. Walk to the old town is a little further, but I enjoyed the walk anyway. Very clean and staff are friendly. I didn't get breakfast for my booking, but it seems like they have a good selection of buffet style when I walked past the breakfast room.

The price is on the higher side but being in San Sebastian during summer months is always pricey.

Good location, fabulous breakfast, friendly and helpful staff, nice room with terrace on level 4...5 to 10 minutes walk to the beach. Lots of restaurants, bars, small supermarkets..a nice modern hotel. The room was differently designed than standard..which was attractive, but less functional.eg the basin with the lighted mirror for shaving / makeup, had no room to put you "stuff" on..there were lots of plugs /USB points behind the bed in an alcove, but this meant there was no headboard. The shower pressure was average...but very slippery..no non slip surface. Breakfast had a great range and was delightful and the reception and breakfast area very attractive. My room had a small terrace with two chairs..very nice. A very nice place to stay..not beach front, but an easy walk. Highly recommended

Clean modern hotel. In the central district about a 10 to 15 mins walk to the old town, less than that to the beach.The room was large and comfortable with good air conditioning. With lots of places to eat we had a long prepared list of bars to try this worked better than picking at random. Excellent food and good atmosphere in the old town. We bar hopped to try different ones. very busy and you end up in the last one with a glass of good wine on the streets sharing a table top to rest your drink ,Fabulous. The view from the fun fair of San Sebastion is a must do. The breakfast in the hotel was excellent.

Room was not ready at check in time. We took a different room that was ready,tired after travelling . I had booked a superior room although the room we got was very nice not sure if it was any different from the standard ones, was on a low floor. Could have more storage space for your clothes.

Excellent choice of breakfast items available. Lovely, knowledgeable staff. Great location. Good sized room.

Room design is unnecessarily quirky. Can't use the full length mirror properly as you have to stand very close because of the angles. No full-length hanging space. Weird curtain by bathroom? Lots of dead space. Just reconfigure the room with right angles, a separate bathroom and proper wardrobe and space to put products to do hair & make up in front of a mirror (with plug socket for hairdryer!) - no need to have the silly angles and everything open! Also - the switches right by the head of the bed meant they kept getting switching on in the night by accident....

We had a wonderful suite which gave us a separate sitting area from the bed. The balcony was huge and looked over many trees and felt very private. The staff were very friendly and spoke good english. We were able to walk everywhere even though we kept getting lost. The breakfast was the best we have had on our trip so far.

The cleaning staff would knock and walk straight in without waiting to hear if anyone was in the room and they didn't take the empty shampoo bottles away although they did replace them. We had issues using the safe in the room and just gave up

Very clean. Showers excellent. Coffee good. Didnt use gym or spa or swimming pool. Mini bar in the room. Well designed but compact room. Decent sized wash area and shower. They are aiming for a diverse appeal with their "hetrofriendly" displays in the foyer. Breakfasts were great. Location was superb and only a 10 minute walk from beach and old town. It felt very central. They were very helpful when we needed to store luggage as we were on foot and check out times do not always match flight times. It's always those little touches that make the difference.

I gave it a 9 so not much I didnt like however there are couple of feedback points to help the hotel improve. Minor ones. 1. We were a three. The breakfast room had multiple tables of two. Aiming at couples possibly. Probably could do with a few double tables as even gay friends sometimes travel in threes :-) 2. Loved the diversity pitch however my wife pointed out that that there were no mixed race faces in the reception area presentation. Inclusive is good. All inclusive is better.
