The location was breathtaking, the room was extremely comfortable and cosy, and the window in the bathroom wall so you could see the surf whilst showering was an inspiration! The dining room was great, and the dinner menu interesting and beautifully prepared. The wait staff were polite and attentive. The car park next door in the vacant lot was much easier to access than under the actual hotel building. The ballroom was extraordinary, and would make a fabulous venue.

The wait staff were all very enthusiastic, but needed some training and money spent on them for training on table service, and a uniform. The car park underneath needs recalibrating for modern sized cars. It's a nightmare for anything bigger than small cars. Unfortunately, the triangle of grass in front of the dining room seemed to be the favourite spot for the local dogs to do their ablutions. It was remarkable how many people did not pick up after their dog.

Got a city view twin room. So missed out on the awesome beach view - but that choice was made based on economics. Location was excellent. Easy to find plus we were attending a conference at the hotel. Easy walk to great coffee and the icecream shop opposite was a lovely way to end each of our two nights. Staff at reception fabulous. We managed to get a 1-hour late check-out and even though we ended up not needing it, it was nice to not feel like we had to rush. Parking at hotel was a dream, so thanks.

Poor air conditioning - we set it at 15 degrees but at night still had to crack the balcony door for some cool air. That of course meant that city sounds like construction and garbage collection woke us up early. I like a firm bed, but the beds in 216 much too firm and quite uncomfortable. The forward curved bedheads are not conducive to sitting in bed and chatting - as you do when you share a room. Smoky mirrors (wardrobe and above the desk) useless and when two women sharing, these mirrors are necessary. The towels are a plenty in the bathroom, but it would be nice to have a towel that wraps around you.

Even though we had the harbour side room and would have liked a beach view room, we still had a view (over the carpark but whatever). Very comfy beds and really nice bathroom.

Some parts of the hotel were a bit dated and shabby but the room itself was lovely, and the beach on the doortstep is ideal. We ordered room service but they wouldnt add a slice of plain toast to the order, saying we had to order the smashed avo and they would remove the avo but still charge for smashed avo!

Did not have the breakfast, but had two dinners and they were both good and well priced. The staff were polite and cheerful. Bathroom excellent. Beds good. Cleanliness good.

The only improvement we can suggest is to provide a toaster, plates, bowls and cutlery, as there would be in a motel. We wanted to limit our spending. We brought our own breakfast, but there were no plates etc and no toaster. You might want us to buy your breakfast, but if we had to do that we would go to a cafe, where we could have something simple and inexpensive. If you don't provide these facilities you push us to find a motel or bnb.

Loved the location, comfortable beds, block out blinds, super quiet, free parking, staff kindly heated up gluten free friends food bought elsewhere which was so kind. Also saw whales not far off Newcastle beach. If you don’t get water views, ask for higher floors (can see more of fort scratchley and the port/harbour and is very nice and sunny - north facing)

Room smelled a bit like a hospital as we entered but went away after opening the doors (at least it’s clean?). Bit dated decor but can’t really complain. We had a great time and I would absolutely stay again.

The room was spacious, clean and well maintained. It seemed recently renovated. Very comfortable beds and well stocked mini bar. but enought room to buy your own items and store in the fridge. The hotel is in a great location across the beach and close to the light rail, restaurants and venues. The bar on the reception level is lovely to relax in after a day out. The staff are friendly and helpful.

The glass window that looks into the room from the bathroom is just not great, especially when someone gets up in the middle of night and needs to turn on the light in the bathroom. It lights up the entire room disturbing others sleep. In my view there is no need for this, it doesn’t add anything other than additional shelf space (which is great). However, maybe management needs to look at having a night light setting in the bathroom, so that is able to be used in the middle of the night without disturbing others in the main room.

Excellent location and this property has parking too. The room is quiet, large and comfortable and the supply of biscuits and hot chocoloate was a great small offering. Daily housekeeping was also excellent and high quality.

I'm splitting hairs here however the room smelt musty when I first arrived but that dicapated after a night. The parking underneath is very narrow so be careful if you have a large car (I did). I also would've liked a handheld shower to wash sand off being right on the beach, but the shower was lovely nonetheless.

Room was great, had everything we needed. Shower was nice and big. Location was easy access to most things.

We had a harbour view, which was a bit further afield than what I had imagined. ie, not on your doorstep! I suggest supplying a paper mat for the area where you make tea and coffee as it can get messy with the tiny long life milks etc. Paper is good and then housekeeping can just renew it each day. There is one inside the cupboard which houses the cups, glasses etc. That would be ideal :-)

Generally very happy - was as expected, room size decent, especially if really only using to sleep and shower. Bathroom good size and well appointed, balcony decent - but really appreciated what I think was double glazed glass, as really cut outside noise down. View okay from 4th floor, I'd imagine less of parking lot and rooftops if higher level. Staff very friendly and helpful. Iron and ironing board supplied in room.

I don't have a great back - have slept on much better hotel beds. Had to use all pillows to try and get decent support. Would also appreciate a small inroom safe - unless it was hidden well.

Fabulous room with beach views and incredible buffet breakfast. The staff were lovely. The views from the top floor overlooking the beach were outstanding. The dolphins played in the surf for hours. Room service was good. The buffet breakfast was outstanding. A great selection of pastries, waffles, pancakes, toasts, smoked salmon, avocado, eggs, bacon, hash browns, baked beans, you name it! Just lovely with an iconic view.

Bed was a bit too hard for us but other than that it was excellent.
