A gorgeous location and some of the Sound of Music was shot on site. Beds were comfortable but the pillows were thin and flat - ask for extra. It was very hot when we were there and the hotel is not air conditioned but fans were provided in the room. The hotel is around 12 minutes drive from the centre of Salzburg but there is an excellent taxi service. Breakfast on the terrace was amazing for the view and the selection of food - best breakfast in Europe!

The interior could do with some cosmetic upgrades - new carpet and the rooms lack character.

Unique, beautiful hotel in fantastic location!!! Great breakfast served by excellent staff in a beautiful setting. All staff was attentive, personalised and professional! Amazing history of the palace and fabulous spaces in the palace as well as garden areas to appreciate this gem of a hotel. Also, great location in close proximity to centre of Salzburg, yet in a quiet, park-like setting with wonderful views.

The corridors of the actual hotel (separate building to the historic palace) are a little dated and the lounging area in this part of the hotel is not on par with the class of this hotel.

I agree with many about the pillows, for a hotel of its stature I feel they need upgrading, and only 1? Most hotels as a rule always provide 2 per person for comfort. Although there was a coffee/bar in the Meierhof there was no atmosphere, why not use the lounge in the Schloss and have a piano player in the evenings? Such a shame not to make the most of this beautiful space? Plenty of quiet places for guests who wouldn’t want to partake.

Location was good, a little walk into the old town but it was easy. Beautiful hotel however, no air-conditioning in rooms, a fan was provided but it was still very stuffy in the room. Breakfast was amazing.

Pillows were uncomfortable., no air-conditioning. Bikes were available to use however no locks were available at the time. If the bike got stolen it was 500 euro per bike so we didn't want to risk it. The pool next door was available to use, reception provided us with tickets however when we got there the pool was closed (both businesses should communicate with one another if they are going to offer services).

I and my partner traveled a lot - but this was the best hotel ever! The staff is amazing: they are nice, very professional, not intrusive, but always helpful. The room was amazing! The old hotel building takes your breath away. We spent the whole day beside the lake - drinking coffee (and wine), and it was amazing. So quiet, peaceful, nice. You can walk to a few restaurants nearby, also Stiegl-Brauwelt is nearby (we walked there). The library is inspiring (I later wrote a column about it, as I am a writer). And there are so many nice places in this hotel (saloons, gardens...). The breakfast is very tasty, and even if you come late, there will be enough food (coffee and prosecco). I celebrated my birthday here and the staff really tried to make this day special for me - THANK you. We will definitely return soon!

This is a unique place, espeically for fans of The Sound of Music. The location of the hotel is offers easy access to attractions and provides a serene atmosphere. There are walking paths both inside and outside the property. Bikes are available. The garden has the general structure from the past but has been updated starting in 2020 and has a much less formal feel. Guests should be clear that there are two buildings, and much of the actual movie was filmed on sets in the US. The main building is the actual Schloss building that houses the Salzburg Global Seminar. Several rooms are restored to look as they did when Max Reinhardt lived there. This is where one finds the breakfast buffet in the mornings. The other building is more like a modern hotel, and the rooms are "hotel-like." We found ours clean and comfortable. We noted that the gold hallway carpet showed signs of age and appeared to be difficult to clean. Exploring the property was a fascinating experience, and we appreciated the fact that it is closed to the public, ensuring a sense of exclusivity for guests. We were, unfortunately, made to feel a little uncomfortable when we were walking on the property in the late afternoon as the man serving drinks from the hotel bar stopped us to ask if we were actually registered. The buffet breakfast at Hotel Schloss Leopoldskron was truly excellent. The variety of options available was impressive, and the quality of the food was top-notch. It was the best breakfast we had during our two weeks of travel. Make sure you note the start and end of serving times as the lady at the table next to us arrive 10 minutes before the buffet closed and was disappointed with her experience. In conclusion, we recommend Hotel Schloss Leopoldskron to anyone who loved the movie and wants to enjoy the grounds. The good location, unique property, clean rooms, and excellent breakfast make it a good choice for travelers.

The hotel is an old schloss with its own lake & garden ,, its really a hidden gem for relaxing after a long day exploring the history in the old town. You must know that the hotel has two building one is the schloss it self were you have breakfast and the suites,,, in which you feel the 5 stars treatment & hospitality and amazing staff specially Gelnar( she is Syrian).

the other building is the Meierhof, if you book a standard room you will be settled in it its an old building,... we booked two rooms one with double beds and one with single beds,,,, the double bed room was decent very basic and had enough space while the single beds one didn't have enough space to put the luggage knowing that the two rooms have the same price. The rooms in general are very standards except for the pillows which were very bad but the reception was helpful and gave us more to solve the issue. The rooms are not soundproof so you could hear the people in the courtyard and in the next room. The hotel is 30 mins walk or 13 Euros with Uber there is no close restaurants or supermarkets,,, also the hotel bar is very basic and doesn't have food if you get hungry at night

Amazing amazing! We loved it!

Only down side was 2 nights out of the three that we stayed we had to go out and down to the lobby at 11pm/midnight and ask the lobby staff to turn down the music because we could hear it in our room… like we could hear it clearly in our room that we thought a party was happening over in the old palace but it was just lobby music! obviously not fun to be woken up at that time of night by lobby music!

Stayed at the hotel once in 2017. Loved it and recommended it to my family. Luckily there were rooms available to book for this trip too since my girl wanted to see the place and the garden she saw in the movie. The view of the lake and garden is gorgeous. We also took a walk to the opposite side of the lake outside the hotel and we didn't want to leave....The hotel room was great and comfortable too. The staff at the reception were friendly and helpful.

The breakfast was great but it was a pity that we were not able to get a table on the balcony facing the lake. We were told only tables for 2 people are allowed there. When we tried to get a table on the other balcony facing the woods, the staff there asked us to go to the one with lake view. We told them what we were told over there. They said the staff there could just add a chair for us......anyway, we finally sat down at the wood side. We were quite upset at the time, not sure whether it was racial discrimination or they think Asians don't tip?

Aside from the Sound of Music scenery, the property was generally impressive in a historic sense. The breakfast room was amazing as well as the other rooms in the palace. The accommodation building next door was also a well kept historical property, with nicely refinished bathroom and bedroom. Beautiful views and grounds to explore, and local restaurants within walking distance.

Shower head had a mind of it’s own. We had a car with us so found the property very easy. Without a vehicle it might have been a little more challenging to access though we did notice a popular bus stop down the road.
