You get a special feeling as soon as you pull into the driveway. The building is beautiful and surrounded by tall plantings. It feels very private. The lobby and dining area have elegant architectural details. The building has had many different uses in the past, one of which resulting in a small pool in the basement. It was fun to have an hour to ourselves there even if it wasn't really sized for exercise. The breakfast was nice and civilized. The staff was friendly and multilingual. They helped us figure out the trams which were a short 5 minute walk away. A bonus were the electric car chargers not mentioned on Booking.com.

Since the rooms had to have bathrooms added to the original layout of the house, some configurations are a bit awkward.

We loved this interesting hotel and enjoyed reading about its history in the booklet provided in the room (villa, private hospital and then hotel). Our room was at the back of the hotel and was extremely quiet, which was great. We had a large room, which was a very interesting shape, which made a change from standard hotel rooms. The bed was comfortable and there was lots of storage and a large television. There was a separate toilet room and a large bathroom with huge windows which let in lots of light. We had a kettle and lots of different teas provided. A huge bonus was the swimming pool! Each room is able to book an hour slot per day and so we had the whole pool to ourselves the evening we stayed. This was wonderful and even though it's a small pool, with only us in it, it was perfect! The reception staff were very nice, friendly and helpful and gave some good advice about places to visit in Ghent. The location for us was great as we don't mind walking and it didn't take us too long to walk from the station. It's also very close to a big park and the botanical gardens. If arriving by car, it would be perfect as it has parking and is on the edge of the city centre. There are lots of trams and buses nearby. We would definitely stay here again.

There was nothing we didn't like.

excellent location, close to University Hospital Ghent, quiet, comfortable, enough space, clean, good bed, good shower, coffee, tea, fridge in the room, correct & friendly lady at the reception, left before breakfast time, could also not test the pool, hopefully next time

despite the (normally cold) October season, there were 2 intruder mosquitoes sometimes keeping me awake, and because the bed cover was a bit thick and the temperature was warm (23°C), it was choosing between heat or mosquito noise / bites, television channels bit difficult to find / select

This hotel is very nice! Calm, comfortable, clean, and the location is excellent! You can get to the center by tram in few stops! There are plenty of public stops nearby (buses, tram 1 & 2) Own parking space is also really good! The room was clean and nice, the bathroom was huge! (looks brand new) The staff were kind and very helpful! There is a free pool in the building operates 365 days a year! The water temperature is very good also! Go there with children if you plan to visit Gent!

Unfortunately you can book a period for use the pool. This was not communicated in advance, so we miss one evening fun with our family...

Hotel layout is very unique, unlike normal hotel design. We loved everything about the hotel; clean, super helpful and friendly staff. Good location, in an upscale residential neighborhood, very close to tram stop if you want to get to downtown Gent. The train station is about 15 minute walk, but you can also take the tram to get there quicker. The room is big, our kids got to sleep in a bunk bed. Shower is beautifully designed and modern, despite seemingly old building. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone planning to stay in Gent. We wished we could've stayed longer.

The toilet room light is a little too dim for our taste (we're Americans). One of the windows didn't have curtain blinds, only semi transparent, so if you like to sleep in the dark past sunrise, you will see some light coming through.

Breakfast was great. The overall experience of the building was nice. The hotel is located in a beautiful part of the city and it's easy to pop into the city center and see the sights.

The pool is quite small. The hotel requires reservations for the pool so everyone gets a private hour of pool time. On the one hand a little less inviting. On the other hand it is really nice to have the pool to yourself! We were able two swim twice a day so no problem in the end.

We were pleasantly surprised by this hotel and ended up really liking it. Parking was free and easy, just outside the hotel. The man who checked us in was nice and helpfully explained public transportation links to downtown. Both of our rooms were huge, with ample room for our large family. Everything worked and was clean. One of our rooms, which was in the basement of the hotel, even had a kitchenette, which was appreciated for the little fridge it had and that we could make some tea. Some of our kids played in the swimming pool, which is small, but still fun for them. Check-out was also smooth.

Hotel is beyond walking distance to old town, but there are parking garages if you want to drive and the tram is right nearby (the downside to public transportation is that it doesn't run very late). It wasn't a problem for us, but it would've really been awesome if the kitchenette had some dishes (it didn't).

Absolutely EVERYTHING was fantastic at Hotel Orion! From the moment I booked and needed to ask a practical question, to when we arrived and up until we left - everything, and I mean absolutely everything, was as perfect as can be! When we arrived, Carlos greeted us with a big smile. When he heard that it was our first time in Ghent he assured us that Ghent would "be our new favorite city." Well, mostly because of him and his gracious hospitality, he pretty much ensured that Ghent became our favorite city. I informed Carlos upon arrival that my wife and I had traveled to Ghent to celebrate my wife's birthday (without the kids)! Carlos went above and beyond to make our time there so special! It literally blew us away (from a birthday 'banner' hanging on our door when we came back from dinner to the complimentary bottle of prosecco given to us. I cannot say enough good things about this hotel! The room was huge, the bed was extremely comfortable. The view from the room was gorgeous. The hotel was absolutely delightful. We were able to use the spa and pool - which were both fantastic. It was the perfect getaway at the most perfect little hotel!!

There wasn't anything that we did not like with this hotel! Free parking, easy check-in/check-out, unbelievably friendly staff, fantastic rooms. Pool, spa, restaurant, This hotel has it all (and then some)!

Loved the location of this hotel, in a nice suburban neighborhood with a park nearby and a tram stop a couple minutes from the front door. Plenty of parking on site and the tram to the historic city center had you there in 10 minutes! The building was large, spacious, and tastefully decorated and definitely not 'cookie cutter.'

We had requested and had confirmed that we had a twin bed room, but when we arrived there were none available. They did move us to one the second night, but would recommend that you message again the night before travelling to make sure they are tracking all your requests.

We were only able to arrive to the hotel after midnight, when the front desk was already closed. However, they left us with detailed instructions on how to enter the hotel which was amazing! The room was very spacious and clean. The shower is great! I wish we could have stayed a little more than one night.

Nothing wrong really. Might be a little to hot for some people during winter months but you can always just crack the window open :)
