staff are wonderful, responsive and take good care of us. Breakfast lovely, as is the central enclosed courtyard. Beds very comfortable. I prefer the rooms with windows, #2 especially.

it would be lovely to have comfortable chairs for hanging out outside on the very top level.

quaint hotel very conveniently located in historic district. staff was wonderful, rooms were clean and spacious. we will return. Sylvana was a wonderful, gracious hostess. She and her staff do everything to make your stay pleasurable.

road noise was rather high. noisy street location. it was a holiday weekend so many people were out and about in the evenings however.

Absolutely beautiful guesthouse, the location was perfect for all we wanted to do. It was great to leave the hustle and bustle of Quito and retreat into the quiet courtyard or rooftop. The rooms were spacious and beautifully designed, it was great to have access to Netflix so we could have family movie nights. Additionally we could use the public spaces for playing games and reading. When it rained, you could sit on a couch or armchair in the common areas and hear it pitter-pattering on the glass rooftop. The breakfasts were homemade every morning, served on the roof so you could see the rooftops of Centro Historico. Above all, the staff was extremely friendly and helpful, and made us feel like we were staying with friends. Sylvana was attentive and welcoming. Osvaldo was helpful and friendly. It was hard to leave because we felt so at home!

Nothing, it was wonderful.

Casa Alquimia was the perfect choice for me. It is a stunningly beautiful boutique hotel in a renovated historical building. The location is excellent as close to La Ronda, the old town, with most highlights of old town within walking distance. The staff is welcoming, courteous and helpful, thanks to Silvana for her wonderful recommendations and assistance. Also Oswaldo, Stephanie and others for excellent breakfast. The breakfast is served on rooftop with great views. They also arranged rides to and from airport with drivers who act as guides to the country. All and all, I highly recommend this great hotel with nice and spacious rooms. I had one with balcony looking onto the Santo Domingo plaza.

It would be nice to have a kettle or coffee machine in rooms.

loved the old Spanish colonial hacienda style home. loved all the antique collectibles displayed beautifully throughout the hotel. loved that breakfast was on the roof with a beautiful view of the Virgin of the Panacella and the surrounding hills. The owner, Silvana, is very sweet and accommodating and let us stay past the checkout time the day we were leaving, which we really appreciated. The internet was great and we had plenty of hot water for our showers. I would definitely stay here again!

We had 2 beds in our room. One was comfortable and the other was very hard, uncomfortable and very squeaky. The towels were very thin and there was never enough toilet paper since the rolls are small and one has to use a lot because they are very thin. Breakfast was delicious - eggs, fruit, bread, juice, coffee - but I think they should have a bit more variety on different days as it was the same every day. For those paying at the hotel with a credit card, please be aware that the hotel charges an extra 8% fee. We found that excessive. Also, please note that no one at the hotel speaks English.

When in a big city I try to stay near the main attractions. Hotels far away in the suburbs cost less, but they lack ambiance, and a good part of the day is spent coming and going. For my visit to Quito, I looked for a hotel in the Historic Centre. I stayed at Casa Alquimia, 20 metres from Plaza de Santo Domingo. Sometimes I disagree with writers of these reviews, but in this case, they were totally correct. This is a simple yet elegant boutique hotel just in the middle of the Centre. The owner has spent thousands of hours decorating rooms and common areas. Every detail reminds guests they are in the historic part of the city. Breakfast is served in a glass room with a direct view of the Virgin of Panecillo. A turntable (yes, a turntable!) discreetly plays some classy songs while you eat. It gives the right start for a day of sightseeing. I recommend Casa Alquimia to everyone who's looking for a stylish yet budget-friendly place in the centre of Quito.

The historic centre of Quito could be a bit quieter, but then it wouldn't be the centre.

We loved this family run hotel right in colonial center of town. Silvana is a wonderful host and she has done a tremendous job renovating this really old building- it is charming and cozy. The breakfast was delicious and she went out of her way to make something special for me as I am vegan. Their homemade tea was so good!!! She gave us great recommendations for dining and tourist attractions. The other personnel in the hotel were very attentive and helpful. Beautiful rooms, beautiful common area, great views from breakfast area. Highly recommend!!

It seemed like a very safe area to us, but we were warned to be careful.

My boys and I had a wonderful stay at Casa Alquimia. The hotel itself is bright, spacious and has fun, quirky decorations. Everything was very clean, and the staff was always available with a smile and helping hand, or suggestions for the area. The included breakfast was delicious and fresh, with bread, fruits, made to order eggs and yummy coffee. Even better, you step outside the front door and are in Old Town Quito, with so much to explore. That being said, going back to the hotel was a nice haven from the hustle & bustle of outside. It's also very secure, as access is only possible with a fob or by ringing a bell.

Remember that you are in a city and at night there will be city noises. Otherwise, no complaints!

The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The house is lovely, well lit, tranquil, historic, a bit quirky (which we like). Breakfast room has a wonderful view. Room was spacious and beds comfy (unless your sheet came off in the night...which left the weird plasticky mattress cover)

So minor - but the bed sheets did not fit on all the beds and the mattress covers and pillow cases were absolutely creepy to sleep on. The shower on our last day would not heat up. But we felt these were minor as so much else was perfect for our family.

Casa Alquimia is one of the nicest mid-priced hotels I have ever stayed in. This mansion is at the end of what must have been a massive restoration project, and the results are impressive. My wife and I stayed there twice in a single trip, once on our arrival and once prior to our departure. The rooms were clean, spacious and comfortable. The view from the breakfast area is spectacular; it includes a massive statue on a nearby hilltop (see photo). Sylvana, the proprietress, was went out of her way to offer advice, arrange for (excellent) tours, recommend restaurants and even to help in the ultimately unsuccessful effort to locate the host family from my exchange student days 57 years ago. Several staff members speak English, and so my ancient Spanish wasn't stressed much at all. Our visit was delightful, and we'd be happy to return.
