The breakfast was very good value. Plenty of selection of breads, pastry etc. Fresh fruit and a good selection of youghat and cheese and meat. Juice was also available- not fresh but nice and a great coffee machine and selection of teas.

For the price it was very good value. The rooms were spotless as were the beds and bathroom. We were given a room with a balcony despite having not been initially allocated one. We really appreciate this. The staff were always helpful and very pleasant even though our French was beyond poor and their English was a lot better! I always judge a hotel by cleanliness and this hotel ticked all my boxes. The decor is a little dated but as we were there to explore the area it was not in anyway an issue! If you arrive by bus and land at the railway station it is a 5 minute walk. If you arrive at the bus station by the church you have a bit of a trek down to the port and the hotel is nearest the Marina which is approximately 30 minutes walk from bus.

Best location and the correct breakfast.

When we first get into the room at the end of the corridor. The room had a bad smell, similar to smelly shoes, and we had to use our own perfume to make the room smell fresher. There was hair on the toilet seat in the toilet and a lot of dust on the spare pillow in the wardrobe.

+ All receptionists were really kind and polite. + They allowed us leaving our bags at the reception after the check-out and pick them up later. Thank you! + The room was clean and comfortable, with a very large window. + The location is close to the railway station, but also close to the centre. Very good!

- The shower was a bit tiny. - The hotel may look older from the outside, but we were really happy here.

Very nice balcony with a view of the station clock tower. Friendly staff and good breakfast. Great location near bars, restaurants, aquarium and train station. Parking available on site (payable and recommend booking in advance). Small bar in hotel - good for 2 star.

Minor thing - no red wine in the bar. Bedside light came on when hit by pillow due to light switches being on thd headboard!

The hotel was extremely well situated close to the station, not far from port and an excellent restaurant. The staff were extremely helpful given that I was travelling with a disabled friend. The service was 24 hours so there was always someone there to ask. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were reasonably priced. I would go there again.

My friend who is disabled had problems with the front steps up to the hotel entrance.

Staff were very friendly and helpful, location to the town front was excellent (only a short walk) they allowed us to park our motorbike in front of the hotel, rooms good size, We would definitely stay here again.

The bed had a Plastic cover under sheet which made it hot and sticky, we slept on top of the duvet with a sheet to get over this. The shower tray is quite small, we were in a room that overlooked a park area - the room had floor to ceiling windows with no voil/net to screen at night plus a large opening window so we felt a little insecure at night, other rooms are fine.

Location good if arriving on a train. The town is so close. Beds good. Breakfast good. Room was quiet.

Shower very small. Needs towel rail. Need a ramp to get to hotel as carrying bags up the steps would be difficult for some. It could be built easily.

Super location, close to the train station and the old port with its attractions, cafes and bars. The room was a reasonable size, beds comfy and the shower although small had a good supply of hot water. The breakfast was good value with plenty of choice. Everywhere was beautifully clean. Parking could be an issue, but by phoning ahead a parking place can be reserved. We would definitely stay here again.

In the age of reducing plastic, it was disappointing at breakfast to see individual small pieces of cheese wrapped in plastic. Covid may have had a part to play but we had stayed in two other hotels the same week where the breakfast cheese was not encased in plastic.

First, all of the staff we met were extremely welcoming and helpful. The location was perfect for visiting La Rochelle, especially arriving by train. It is a short walk from the train station. The walk in to the centre of the old town/harbour ks nor more than about 5 minutes and yet the hotel is far enough from the centre to be nice and quiet in the evening. We were travelling by bike and having a secure place to store them overnight was well worth the €3 per bike per night. We stayed two nights and had easy access to the bikes as and when we wanted. La Rochelle is a particularly bike friendly place. We also took advantage of the breakfast, which was also well worth the money, €9.50 per person for a very extensive buffet offering. Our room was clean and smart with a nice view over the park towards the town. The bed was most comfortable. We would certainly recommend this Hotel les Gens de Mer and will be happy to stay there again.

Location, just 3 mins from the big wheel and the boats.Nice reception area.Breakfast was super, cereals, fruits, yogurts, juices, meats, cheeses and breads.Bed very comfortable.Fan on a timer.Shower great.Good price too!

No kettle in room.Drinks machine in reception area but had to pay for it in evening which I didn't know.
