The rooms are magnificent and decorated with care. A carafe of house wine and a bottle of fresh water are provided in the room. The breakfast is copious and very good, brought to you with care by the ever-smiling team. We had a jacuzzi bath in the room which was perfect for recuperating.
The mattress wasn't very comfortable.

All of the staff from the reception to the breakfast staff to the cleaning staff were fabulous, kind, and friendly. The breakfast was delicious and the location was perfect. My room was very warm and I could walk down a few stairs to a pleasant courtyard.
There are a lot of stairs. There are steep stairs from the street leading up to reception and then once you are in the hotel there are stairs to your room, to the breakfast room, to get out at street level etc. The place is 400 years old which is absolutely part of its charm. However, it does mean that the steps are uneven and can be quite narrow and that there are various trip hazards. For a lot of people this would not be a problem for me it was and I mention it for others who may be equally challenged.

An exceptional place to stay! You could feel all the hotel's history everywhere you looked, from the walls, to the paintings, to the photos, all the building is a living museum, showcasing Greece's history! The aesthetics were overall amazing! The location was ideal, as the suites are located close to the center. The stuff was super kind & explaining, always eager to help. Also, we had the best breakfast ever served! The quality & quantity was brilliant! Last, but not least, thank you Ilion Hotel for the welcoming treats!
As we already knew, the building is a living historical monument. There is little to none sound insulation. The travellers should take off their shoes & be quiet, not that this affected negatively our travelling experience, just letting the other travellers know.

The kitsch-y decorations of the place met the expectations! Very fun and beautifully furnished building from 1620. Everything feels lavish, but not quite excessively luxurious, and it makes sense that many consider it a hidden gem (though it really is not hidden at all!). All the staff were absolutely lovely and professional, and went out of their way to help in a way that felt sincere.
The breakfast is really not all that. You are served once you sit down, and it is the same thing every morning - which is fine, but gets old (one singular hard boiled egg per person and a variety of baked goods...). It is what you make of it - for some, it can feel a bit stuffy and awkward, as you are sitting very close to other guests in an oddly decorated room. Also- everything is outrageously creaky, and there is no soundproofing. Very 1620, and though I did not mind the noises of the doors or floors, the creaky bed became bothersome fairly quickly.

Booked only in the morning just after 10:00, because not sure if I could make it to the town of Nafplion that day by public transport. Was lucky because a reservation for the top room just got cancelled for the weekend and was surprised by the wonderful decoration and views from the room Big bathroom with jacuzzi. Location just of the main square and main bus station. That weekend the orthodox Easter with on Friday evening rituals in the churches and a procession and Saturday bells and fireworks at midnight. Perfect base for going to Mykene, Epidauros and Tolo. The breakfast room is filled with movie pictures and the staff is very friendly and provides for a good meal. Seeing a little owl (μικρή κουκουβάγια) on the next roof surprised me in early hours
While the jacuzzi is luxurious, I prefer a quick shower, which is not that practical in the tub.

Breakfast was lovely. Although the property was lovely as advertised, there was no elevator inside and we were on the third floor. However the staff was very helpful. Getting to and finding the building location itself was very difficullt. It required walking up a hill and then 30 narrow steps with luggage to get there and the parking was very far away. Not recommended for anyone who is not physically fit to climb heights with luggage or distances to stay there or to get around that area of the city.
Better description of location and parking.

Great location, unique, quirky and fun decor, super nice staff and yummy (& plentiful!) breakfast. Re location: Keep in mind that you will need to carry the bags from a parking spot outside the old town to the hotel and then bring them up the stairs. This wasn’t a problem for us since we’re fit and able-bodied, but it might be for folks with disabilities. But it’s all very well described in the listing. As a trade off, You’re right in the heart of town within two minutes of Syntagma Square.
The bathtub wasn’t super convenient for a quick cleanup.

The hotel is in a good location on a quiet side street just off Syntagma Square with plenty of bars and restaurants nearby, it also close to the waterfront . The hotel is old and quirky and the staff were excellent. Our room (22) was spacious and we were even provided with a small carafe of wine each evening. Breakfast is served to you at your table and is plentiful - bread, jams, honey, croissants, Greek yogurt, cold meat, fruit, cake and biscuits. Enough to set you up for the day. Due to the murals in the room, photographs are prohibited.
I didn't appreciate that there would be so many steps (30 up to the hotel reception) and our room was on the 1st floor. I have trouble with osteoarthritis in my knees so it was painful. There are 2 entrances. A is street level and the rooms face inwards, B is round the corner up the steps. The hotel did offer to move us to a street level room but we had unpacked and got settled so decided to stay put for our 3 night stay. The staff also helped us with our luggage which was much appreciated. There are 3 alleys up to the hotel off Syntagma Square, the first has about 15 steps, the 2nd 3 and the 3rd is flat, so don't think you have to follow the first hotel sign if you are coming from the bus terminal end of the old town.

The property was an historic building with all the quirks that come with that but was well positioned and comfortable. Staff were very helpful and excellent. The breakfast was a great value addition.
We stayed in room 4 which was in the back courtyard and it felt disconnected from the hotel. The yard had no sun and the entrance to the room is opposite the buildings service door. The room had a humidifier as it was dank. Disappointed in this room. The laneeay next to the room was also fairly noisy on the first night.

Breakfast was amazing and they even tailored it a bit for us as we were staying for several days. The staff, especially Mia and Irene, were fabulous and bent over backwards to ensure that our late arrival and early morning check out went smoothly - they even packed us all a breakfast/lunch to eat as we left before the kitchen opened. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly and gave us great information for exploring the town and surroundings, both verbally and with the maps and guides available in the lobby. Perfect location and quiet. Our room was stunning and had the most incredibly beautiful ceiling I've ever seen in a hotel - in fact, the whole hotel was gorgeous. I wanna go back!
I didn't like leaving. I would have happily stayed for a year.
