The hotel Carlos is a little gem. The pool with statues (!) nestles in a beautiful little garden and the rooms around the garden have very comfortable beds and and great showers. The restaurant and bar areas are decorated in an eclectic contemporary style while the historic parts of the hotel have the original porcelain and prints on display. (Note that the trip to and from the airport will take around 30 minutes.)

The breakfasts were fine but the dinner menu could be improved.

The hotel location is great, near the airport, malls, bars, and nightclubs. It feels safe around the hotel and it's a gated property, I like the style of the hotel because it feels like you're at home cozy and warm. The room was big and the beds were really comfortable, breakfast was delicious. The staff was friendly and polite.

Hotel San Carlos has charm that overcomes minor inconveniences. The charm comes from an earlier era, and the decor and decorations are well maintained. Various pieces of furniture and "chachkas" from the early 20th century, which I normally do not appreciate, seem to naturally fit in here.

For someone who needs to work in this "road warrior" age, placement of electrical sockets is very important. Our room had a desk, but no convenient socket for it. There were sockets next to both beds, but on the wrong side, i.e. not next to the night table, so there was no place to leave your computer, phone, tablet, etc. to charge at night, except on the floor, or in bed with you. The great photo of the pool is misleading. The pool is actually charming, great for kids to splash around in, but quite short (we swam anyway).

The location is excellent, with several decent restaurants within walking distance. The building is beautiful, like a small mansion. The staff is very friendly and try to do their utmost to make your stay enjoyable. They changed my room after I said I preferred one that looked out on the courtyard and the room was clean, spacious and bright. The bed was very comfortable.

The breakfast is disappointing. You have a choice of several menus that are just ok but there is zero flexibility about replacing anything on the menu with something else. There should be a breakfast buffet. There’s one small complimentary bottle of water in your room when you arrive and that’s it. All other bottles have to be purchased.

The staff were very friendly and accommodating, and helped by making some phone calls for me when my cell phone's international service was dysfunctional. The suite was clean and quite spacious, and everything in the kitchenette was functional and quite handy. The breakfast was excellent on each of the mornings that we were there.

It wasn't clear how to use the remote controls for the AC.

Originally stated at a ‘normal’ room but didn’t like those at all so I gave myself an upgrade to one of the more spacious apartments on the 3rd floor, which was 100% worth it. Love their inner courtyard with small pool. Breakfast was fine.

Rooms are not very soundproof; I could very clearly hear the programs the person in the room next door was watching. WiFi was not great in the 3rd floor.

The house on the outside is beautiful. The staff is great. The location is amazing. If you are looking for something smaller this is the one to choose. Beautiful home. The food was good too.

The furniture could be upholstered now. You can tell it is old. So a little update on furniture and decorations would be nice. I stayed in a small room 19 and it could use a bit of color. It was too bland and sad.

I think the hotel is beautiful and feel more like a home. This is our second stay and we will return again. Breakfast is great!

Absolutely gorgeous building. Swimming pool is small but big enough for one person to swim laps. Lovely pool/courtyard area. Fantastic room

It was the only place I stayed in Guatemala that didn't have drinking water readily available. I try not to buy plastic bottles and I felt I was annoying the staff asking them to constantly fill up my water bottle.

Very cute, charming hotel. Intimate feeling. Definitely better than staying in a big conference room hotel. Great little courtyard/garden area with a small pool.

The rooms were a little hot/noisy facing the street, but when you close the windows and put on the AC you couldn't hear much.
