I chose the Gateway based on ease of access from the main road, off-street parking and good walking access to the city centre and wasn't disappointed on any account! Plenty of parking, comfortable room and very friendly staff. It was a very easy walk into Donegal Castle and the city centre. The bonus was how helpful the front desk ladies were, recommending which pub was the best for live Irish music and especially appreciated was the tip to go to Sliabh Liag one afternoon (and the tip to drive to the Information Centre and get the shuttle bus from there, spot on!!) We definitely enjoyed our stay here :) Photos: river crossed as you walk into town; Donegal Castle; view at Sliabh Liag (highest sea cliffs in Ireland)

The hotel is very well located for access to the Donegal town centre; within walking distance. Several of the pubs provide music in the evening. The hotel is quite modern; with the rooms located to one side of the hotel block. Reception is friendly and helpful. There are pamphlets available for local things to do and places to visit. We used the hotel as an overnight stay on one night; moved on to Dungloe the next night and returned to the Gateway for a second night. There is a restaurant for breakfast and daytime meals. Not open in the evening. Breakfast was Euros 12.50 and very good value. The portions were enormous. The town is Donegal is attractive; not too big but quite busy most times. Lots to see and look at. There is a nice riverside walk to relax.

For some reason that we could not make out, the bedroom was very warm in the night; causing us some discomfort. Donegal is a busy little town and parking is available but may be hard to find.

We recently had a 4 day break at your hotel. We enjoyed our stay very much. The food at breakfast was wonderful and the sta were always extremely friendly and helpful.

We were slightly disappointed with the location of the room as it was very dark. It had limited daylight and we were unable to fully open the blinds as it was on the ground floor and other guests were passing. Nevertheless, this will not deter us from staying again, but we would hopefully be able to request a more open outlook.

We received the warmest, friendliest, most professional and welcoming service at reception on check-in. As soon as we got to the room we both commented on it. The room itself was spotlessly clean, well decorated, quiet and warm. All the TV and radio channels worked (which is unusual) and the WIFI was strong and constant. We were very impressed. We don't normally take breakfast as part of the deal as we travel quite a bit and have had some very over-priced and underwhelming experiences. However, the young lady on reception raved about it and said we wouldn't regret it. We gave it a go and she was right. The service was fantastic from a lovely group of young staff. Everything was brought to your table so there was no crowds of people gathering round or queuing up for food. The food was excellent. Well cooked, well presented and of a high quality. This is a gem of a place and we'll be back - we were even recommending it to family while we were there.

Staff, We knew we were going to be late for check in, the receptionist, (Annie) made sure that we would be accommodated by the night porter despite the late arrival. And so it transpired, the night porter was excellent at his job and handled our arrival with curtesy and efficiency which would have doe any 5 star establishment proud! No doubt under Annie's instructions lol.I had the pleasure of meeting her the next morning, expecting a middle aged or older woman, given the professionalism of how she handled our booking but was very surprised by how young she was and her knowledge of the hotels and guests. Breakfast was superb as well, well cooked and presented.

Coffee maybe. Not to my taste anyway

Spacious clean room with good quality furnishings. Breakfast seemed expensive but was wholesome, filling, all inclusive of drinks/ cereals, and very tasty. Nice friendly staff. 10 min walk from the town and pubs/restaurants

Door mat by entrance door would be good as straight from outside. TV channel reception is poor, so limited channels. Restaurant shuts at 5pm, but would expect the meals to have been good based on breakfast.

The location of the hotel was in a good location. Breakfast was very good and ordered off of a menu. The room looked very updated to include the bathroom.

The room was accessed from the outside. It would have been nice to have a door mat to clean off our shoes before entering. There was really no place to put our suitcase. We ended up clearing off the desk to set our suitcase on. The coffee pot was directly under the TV and would fog up the TV when making the hot water.

Breakfast was 40 minute wait.. My husband asked for bacon sausage and white pudding....they brought him out large plate however with only one portion of each (1 sausage, 1 slice 9f bacon and one piece of white pudding) At a cost of .€12.50 this was most definitely not acceptable. I called waitress to tell her there qas not enough on plate. She advised she would bring more out....another 20 minute wait. Disappointing on the breakfast front. Beautiful breakfast room to sit in though.

Gateway provides what it says. It's only a few minutes' walk from Donegal where there are several places to eat in the evening. Our room was clean with comfortable beds and we had everything we needed for a one night stop over. Breakfast in the Blas Restaurant was excellent with a few options we hadn't had elsewhere whilst travelling.

If you want luxury this ins not your place but for a stopover for one or two nights it was clean and comfy.

A modern and well appointed hotel which was easily accessible and very close to the town centre. There was parking on-site. The rooms were fine. The breakfast was very tasty and the staff, both in the restaurant and hotel reception were very helpful.

The restaurant and the hotel are separate businesses and the restaurant does not open in the evenings. After a long days travel it would have been nice to eat on-site rather than have to find somewhere else to dine
