The (muslim) owners were very friendly and helpful. The location was excellent. The breakfast was simple, muzzy, but delicious, and copious. I have never could ask them anything that they refused. The hosts made special efforts for my stay be calm and comfortable. In Jerusalem the earth connects to the Heaven. You can feel the real presence of The Almighty everywhere, without break. BUT the basic and indisputable fact is that the Jews have the real power in every points of view. ( No doubt, it is The State of Israel since more than 70 years...) Said to see their usual and regular provocations and the incidents towards the "other" kind of people there. Against the official communications You can feel/realise that the friendship is only superficial and too much affected. I am sure ( as a Christian pilgrim ) that there is THE ONLY ONE above us, The Almighty, The Highest Power, The Superiority.. (or call as You want to). Seems like some people have forgotten it there. About the hygenic conditions You have to know that they live in an absolutely, completely different world there. They make all the imaginable efforts to keep clean and tidy the accomodation. But you must not forget, that You are not at home, and do not have any vain fantasies, who arrive here from a Country, which has another cultural and intellectual heritage.

I have written everything I want, above ( below? ).

Hosts were very friendly, providing breakfast every morning and advice for travelling through the city. They even gave me free water outside as I was staying there! The location is right next to Al Aqsa, and witnessing the people flock for Friday prayer is a sight to behold! WiFi was good and the room was very warm.

There are troops that will try and prevent your entry until you explain that you are staying at the hostel, not entering the area. When following maps, be sure not to turn too early or you will be met my troops. The best entry is to go down the path near the western wall. The bathroom isn't the best.

Great price and location right by the Temple Mount in the Old City. The hostel is located in an old traditional building right by the Chain Gate. Great for a short stay in Jerusalem. The breakfast was pretty good and enough for the money.

When I arrived the bed sheets on my bed weren't fresh, they were obviously used by a previous guest. Overall the place is not that clean, especially the bathrooms. Endurable for a short stay.

Transportation from airport to Jerusalem are very convenient And also very easy to reach and;find this hostel location. Due to this hostel are joined to the Holy Temple mountain so that is really amazing. And the staff here are so helpful, always shows they're kindness to us more than I expected.

This is a wonderful place to stay on Old City and I witnessed owners treating tourists and pilgrims of all faiths equally and kindly. I arrived late in the evening and was greeted with a delicious meal by the owner's mother, no less. The "hotel" was built over 800 years ago by Saladin's army and the same family has lived in it for the entirety of its existence. Beds are comfortable, rooms are clean, showers are hot, fresh juice and coffee are plentiful. I timed my walks and it is exactly 2 minutes to go to the Dome of the Rock (including security and taking off your shoes); 4 minutes to the Western Wall and 15 minutes to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. You can hear the call to prayers from your bed. Remarkable experience -- "I think this is the best hostel in the world" -- one guest remarked.

The family that runs the hostel and takes care of the guests are so kind. They made sure that our family of five had a comfortable stay and that each of our needs were met. They even shared their meals with us and even gave us a bag of popcorn!

The only thing is that maybe the floor needed to be mopped. We did have one suggestion for people staying who are concerned about getting the toilet seat wet from using the shower in the same space. Bring a large plastic trash bag to put between the toilet seat and cover. In this way when you finish your showers the toilet sit will still be dry and you can use it with comfort. Also, bring an extra pair of wet shoes or Crocs-like slip on shoes to use in the shower/toilet area. This will keep your feet dry when using the toilet after showers and the floor is still wet.

Proximity to Al-Aqsa mosque. It's literally on the doorstep. Perfect for group of friends who was a budget hotel with easy access to the mosque. I'd love to see this place when the renovations are completed. Would definitely book again!

There was renovation going on, so the place was a mess, but it is well positioned right at the ĝate of AL Aqsa mosque. The bed was not comfortable, and the pillows needed a refresh. Only 1 bathroom and shower combo, a second one would be great, having to wake up at 2am to beat the other guests can be challenging as everyone plans for the same. Overall, it was a good budget experience as we only needed a place to shower and sleep at night . Well worth the money spent for the convenience of al aqsa mosque. !

The location. it’s really hard to find I was wondering for a bit but when you find it it’s easy to get back. If you come in Jaffa gate find Chain Gate street and follow it all the way to the western wall (they won’t let you go any farther) there looks like there is a shop with snacks, that’s the hostel. The owners are so kind. they made a shared dinner every night for free.

I’m a solo female. my first two nights I was with a bunch of men. I get it’s a mixed dorm just felt weird. on my third night two more solo females came and it was great. I just didn’t get the timing right. the facilities are pretty basic but you should know that by the photos. it’s just really cool to stay so close to the western wall in the old city.

The location is AMAZING. You can not get a better location WITH breakfast for that price. Very good staff, kind and trying to help you all the time. They also moved us from a group room to a private room for free for one night, and offered us another night for free, but we had to leave to a another city. The house (hostel) is very old and beautiful. The breakfast was boiled eggs, hummus, yogurt, cabbage salad and eggplant spread, with pitta bread. You get a jam and halva as well.

It was a little bit hard to find, but we asked the police and they helped us. It is easier to try to get to Chain Gate (you can not enter the Al Aqsa outside of visitors hours if not-Muslim) and the hostel is just next to the gate, left side. The hostel was also not clean, at all. They do not change the sheets after the guests, I think because people usually stay for just a night or two. You have to ask for the new sheets. The bathrooms are also not clean at all. As well as the kitchen. Be aware if you can not handle that.

Bab Al-Silsila/Chain Gate hostel was an affordable hostel in the middle of the old town of Jerusalem that provided the most hospitable Palestinian experience possible. The hostel is in an historical building with traditional Jerusalemite architecture, and all the rooms of the house look like a magical biblical cavern. The owners and hosts are generous and helpful. They give you a quite abundant breakfast and always serve you coffee or tea when you sit out at the small terrace, which is in one of the most beautiful little squares of Jerusalem, and which features a Mameluke fountain and the entrance to the Dome of the Rock complex.
