Not the hotel’s fault but taxis are hard to get on Sunday afternoons, so we were unsure of how to get to the hotel from the train station. Fortunately you can take the #1 bus from the station to the funicular for 1.5 euros! Or arrange transport in advance.

The views over the city were stunning and staying up in this part of town above the Citia Alta felt very exclusive. The staff at the hotel were very helpful and hospitable and the breakfast was the best we had after a month of travelling in Europe.

The hotel has a 5 Star feeling. An outstanding bar area with a spectacular view, a delicious breakfast made to order, and the grounds are lovely. We wished we could have stayed longer. It is somewhat treacherous to drive, as the hotel is perched on the top of the hill which is accessed by a narrow road. A cab or smaller car is recommended. There is an outstanding restaurant down the street 1-2 minutes away. The Funicular is likewise only steps away to take one to the Citi Alta. Don't miss walking up to the park that is just above the hotel. The service from everyone at the hotel was first rate. We will be back.

The hotel's restaurant in the evenings, although situated in a beautiful garden with excellent service, was too expensive, and the food, although creatively prepared and presented, was not all that good. We had a much better meal and the restaurant down the street for 1/3 the price.

The hotel exceeded our expectations and was excellent value for a couple. The room was large, cool, and well designed (plenty of space for luggage). The bathroom was also generous and very modern, with derssing gowns and slippers provided. The highlight though was the gardens which were stunning and we spent several hours relaxing and reading in various spots enjoying the landscaping and the views over Bergamo! The staff were incredibly very friendly and attentive, it was easy to order drinks or snacks on the terrace, or in the garden area with them. We also ate twice at the restaurant, which was excellent and very reaonably priced. We would return here in a heartbeat!

Difficult to find something not to like! If being very nitpicky, I would say the bed could be a little bigger (as the room was very large), and it would be nice to have a proper coffee machine in the room.

Wow we were so pleased with our stay at Relais San Vigilio al Castello! It is an absolutely unique hotel by the castle at the very top of old town of Bergamo. Breathtaking views from the rooms, and from their terraces and patio. Clear views of northern Italy — the alps, and views to Milan in the south east — accompany Breakfast, drinks, dinner. Restaurant on property is excellent, had outstanding meal. Rooms was unique but very comfortable with our own private balcony. Staff was very helpful at all times.

Driving directions were hard to follow — it was a bit hard to find because GPS doesn’t work and we had a small map on our phones — recommend printing out the map and reviewing that carefully before trying to drive it.

The views from the location are phenomenal. The staff is really lice. The breakfast is delicious.

It would be good to know, prior to arrival, that there is an elevator to bring up your luggage. We had heavy suitcases and a stroller and it was not the easiest of the way to the hotel (from the funicular), when it actually could have been way easier. Maybe include a picture of where to walk to? We ended up calling the hotel and the lovely staff came down to help us out, as we were a bit lost.
