The hotel was in an excellent location to explore the old historic town. The hotel was clean and the room comfortable. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Would visit again.

Night time flight and arrived late. Reception closed. Found it a little difficult to find the other hotel we had to visit in order to gain access to II Sole. Could not get a taxi to the airport for the return journey. Luckily found out about the local bus service or we might have missed the flight home to the UK.

The location is amazing. Next to Piazza Vecchia and really easy to find on the main street. The staff were lovely, friendly and attentive. Everything in the hotel and the room was immaculate. We were lucky enough to have a little balcony. We ate at the restaurant downstairs on the last night and that was lovely too. Complimentary bottles of water in the room fridge was a nice touch too.

Two single beds pushed together to make a double wasn't that comfortable. No kettle or tea and coffee facilities in the room was a little sad!! We had a hot water issue on day one but, it sorted itself out. The room was insanely hot at first but, we figured out how to turn off a radiator! Possibly a little expensive for what it is.

It was something of a challenge to drive to the hotel for the streets of the Bergamo città alta were clearly not designed for cars! The garage with which they have a special relationship is no great distance way - as the crow flies - but access to it is challenging and, at 25 euros per day, it is far from cheap. However there really is no viable alternative. Helpful reception staff and entirely satisfactory room and bathroom. Their restaurant is justifiably popular and good value and we regretted that the second day of our two day stay was their rest day and no meals other than breakfast were served. Breakfasts however were good and, from a sightseeing point of view, the hotel is excellently located.

Breakfast was fine. The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful. The location was perfect, being literally less than ten metres away from the historic main square but still very quiet at night.The room was spacious but the en-suite facilities were a little cramped.A good restaurant for evening meals.

A bigger shower-room would have improved matters but it was still OK to use. My one big negative was the cost of the taxi to the railway station. 150% higher than the fare from station to Hotel. Obviously an in-house arrangement with a private driver. Not the best end to an otherwise very enjoyable three-night stay.

It was very near the main square and attractions in the citta alta. Also very near many restaurants. It was not too far from the bus terminus ( a short walk). The room was reasonable size, clean and the bed was large and comfortable (not too soft a mattress). The linen was crisp and appropriate for the weather. The breakfast was in a good Italian/German style with plenty of rolls/ham/cheese, croissants, cake, yoghurt, fresh fruit and double helpings of coffee. We could help ourselves to as much as we wanted. The fan kept us sufficiently cool. We were very late due to flight delay but followed the instructions on the main door and made our way to the side door to get in (we had called them from the airport to forewarn the staff). We were given a key to let ourselves in the next evening after the staff had left.

No lift, though I imagine that it would be impossible to install one in the historic building. No air conditioning but In June the fan was fine. The bathroom is very poky and was Ok for us but anyone with larger frame (we are not that tiny!) would have an issue accessing the shower.

Location couldn’t be better! Much nicer hotel than the pictures show. Lovely decor, bar and restaurant, terraces. Staff were friendly. Nice breakfast.

No lift and lots of stairs with a pram. Shower in bath was at an awkward angle so splashed water everywhere. Large patch of black Mould on bathroom roof and no shelving in bathroom to put make up/ bottles, creams etc. Nothing major though, would definitely stay again and request a room with less stairs to it.

Exquisite staff. The hotel is bang on in the centre. A very good selection of breakfast items. Coffee machine in the room!! Very good value for money. A colleague of ours joined us for breakfast and the owner did not even make her pay for it! The rooms have been recently refurbished and were very clean. The common areas are nicely decorated. Accoglienza bergamasca sempre al top!

Maybe some little more attention to detail in the rooms is needed. Being there for just one night it was ok, but some extra space where to keep things organised, especially in the bathroom, would add comfort.

Il Sole is amazingly well located for a visiting Bergamo. It is right on the corner of the Piazza Vecchia which is where basically everything you would visit is located (in the Old Town section of the city, on the hill - Citta Alta). We were passing through due to flying into Bergamo late at night and decided to make a couple of days of it before heading to Milan. They are completely different beasts but in the end I think we enjoyed Bergamo more and being in such an easy location to wander the old city streets was a big part of that. The room was lovely, the staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was really nice (simple but plentiful and good quality continental style). We did not eat at the restaurant at night but it always seemed to be doing a good trade through the day and at night. We had a very late check in that was always going to be outside of normal hours and then was delayed but they have a system to accommodate with a hotel a couple of doors along the street that has 24hr reception able to let you in if you are arriving very late. This was clearly communicated and quite straightforward. We were also able to leave our bags at the neighbouring hotel reception to allow us to do more sightseeing before leaving. They were very used to all this and everything was well organised. I think our stay was pretty typical since Ryanair started using Bergamo as their version of "Milan" despite being nearly 1hr away on the train/bus.

Nothing, the place was ideal.

Arrived late at night but had no problem accessing our room, breakfast was great with very friendly staff , The fan in the room was a real bonus as the weather was beautiful, amazing location just a few steps from the main square and surrounded by many cafe bars restaurants and shops would definitely stay here again! Thanks so much for a lovely stay !

Breakfast was really good and localisation was absolutely amazing. We appreciate special atmosphere - like at home.

There is no aircondition in the hotel but for us it was not a problem. The hotel is situated in the old building built at that time when people should live without ac and they did everything they could do to live comfortably - thick walls, shutters...
