Small noisy room. Open the balcony doors you hear the very noisy and busy street. Close the door you hear something ticking in the room maybe the AC eventhough I didn't use it. You can hear all doors in the room right from the main door one floor down to footsteps to all of the room doors on the floor. Paying for sunbeds eventhough you are a hotel guest! Breakfast juices were not freshly made. Tasted poorly.

My husband, two teenage daughters and I were vacationing in Italy this past July and spent two nights in Santa Margherita. My daughters were dying to go to Amalfi but we couldn't make it work logistically so the Italian Riviera was the compromise. It turned out to be amazing. I don't know anyone who has been to Santa Margherita so I was working strictly off online reviews for the hotel which made me a bit nervous. I seriously considered staying at a fancier hotel across the the street but I chose this hotel specifically for the views and the ability to lounge and swim off of the rocks. Hotel Continental did not disappoint. The views were gorgeous and we had a fun swimming and got great photos. The breakfast was delicious and we have no complaints about the service. The location is a short walk from restaurants and the marina. My dream was to stay at the Splendido but I couldn't justify the cost. One thing that surprised me was that Santa Margherita and Portofino were not nearly as crowded and overrun with Americans as I would have imagined. We had no trouble getting into great restaurants. We did a full day boat charter through Luxury Charters Portofino and it was the highlight of the entire vacation. Everyone we know is going to Amalfi Coast and I am so glad we did something different. I highly recommend Santa Margherita and this hotel.

We had two rooms. The only rooms available to accommodate our family were a queen room with a pull-out twin bed and a second room down the hall with just a twin. It wasn't the most ideal set up but it worked for two nights. I think if I had booked sooner we may have been able to get two queen rooms.

The staff was especially welcoming and upgraded our reservation at no extra charge, which was very nice of them! The room is cozy, very well styled and has everything you need. Ours also had a terrace with the most gorgeous view! The hotel also has a very nice and big private garden and outdoor/indoor terrace for guests to enjoy. Very good breakfast with plenty of choices both sweet and savory and great service. Thank you very much for taking good care of us, we are definitely coming back if in the area!

Everything was perfect!

I am absolutely in love with Hotel Continental! All the staff were amazing, the hotel was spotlessly clean, the frontline desk was always very polite, with impeccable manners and nothing was a problem for them. I opted for a half board and it was the best decision I could make. The food was amazing and the restaurant staff truly made me feel welcome. The whole hotel works like a Swiss watch. My only regret is that I didn't get a chance to enjoy the Spa and the hotel beach as I was there for work. But I will definitely be back!

There was nothing I didn't like.

Extremely polite, helpful and caring staff. The room and the bed was comfortable. The restaurant is outstanding, offering culinary experience at dinners. I liked the open kitchen and the harmony people were working in. Cars are managed properly. I appreciated if waiters walked along the sun terrace and taking orders for drinks. As we were late in booking we could not get room with sea view but it did not bother us since the hotel offers many other places to enjoy the panorama.

Some hangers for towels in the bathroom would be great.

Although it is all about the view in Santa Margherita Ligure, the hotel was charming, and the staff became family - VERY accommodating. Our room was rather small for two people and the beds were extremely firm, but, again, the balcony and that view made up for the soreness in my hips every morning from the mattress. Breakfast (included) was over the top - I loved that we were able to watch chef at work. Each evening we had cocktails before dinner in a lovely living area while enjoying the view before dinner. Drinks were served with complimentary finger foods that included nuts, chips, olives and bread slices topped with salami and cheese. The lamb (my choice for dinner) was the best I've ever had - just dripping with rosemary and garlic. Truly, there was no reason to search for restaurants - everything you could want was offered at the hotel and reasonably priced. This is old world charm at its finest with modern furnishings in the public spaces mixed with antiques, classic paintings and surrounded with glass walls to take in the surroundings. Paths take you thru gardens to a lovely pool and the Mediterranean laps at the edge of the property. The hotel is adjacent to the marina so you can watch the fishing boats leave in the morning and marvel at the yachts. The ten-minute walk into town was not an issue for most of us, but non-negotiable for one of our older travelers, so we opted for a cab into Portofino ($40 for a twenty-minute ride). The train station is close by and a first-class, round trip to the Cinque Terre was $22. Overall, we felt this was the best place to stay in this area and highly recommend the hotel. Can't wait to go back!

The mattresses could be better.

Lovely location along the coast; elegant hotel with relaxed resort ambience. Light-filled interior public spaces including the breakfast room. Breakfast had a good selection. Our room was clean, with beautiful crisp linen; and a spacious balcony with view over the sea and the town in the distance; great for watching sunrise. The reception staff, Daniela and her team, made us feel very welcome. We enjoyed our stay very much. And highly recommend this hotel.

The breakfast is delicious with beautiful views and amazing staff. Lunch can be enjoyed above the private beach. The pesto lasagna was excellent. The dinner menu changes, which is wonderful when you eat all your meals here! It is walking distance to the town and a ferry can take you to Portifino. Wonderful experience.

Not the fault of the hotel, but do note the ferry does not always run to Cinque Terre. We arrived in October and the season was over.

Our stay at the Hotel Continental in Santa Margarita was a memorable experience. The stunning location, impeccable service, and the opportunity to stay in a sea facing room and enjoy breakfast on the terrace while overlooking the bay made it a truly special visit. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a tranquil and luxurious getaway with unbeatable views. It's a hidden gem that I hope to return to in the future.

Great location on the water, beautiful property. The breakfast was great and the front desk staff were very helpful.

The room was just okay. The bed was very hard and the walls were paper thin so we could hear every word from our neighbors. On the last night, there were a bunch of children on both of sides of us that we had to ask to be quiet on separate occasions. I also didn’t like that we were charged a fee for the beach chairs after already paying a substantial rate for the room.
