My fiance and I splurged one night of our Japan trip to stay at Watei Kazekomichi. Our entire stay here was absolutely wonderful. We were picked up from Atami Station by the staff, and upon reaching the ryokan, we were welcomed with a beautiful view of the hillside and ocean, green tea, and small snacks as we were checked in. The room itself was everything I could have wished for - immaculately clean, spacious, and peaceful. The private onsen was the perfect temperature and the futon beds were so comfortable. The kaiseki dinner and breakfast were also delicious, and every step felt like we were being catered to. At check-out, the hotel called a taxi for us to take us back to the station.

Our room was at the very bottom floor so every time we went for a meal or stepped out of the ryokan, it was four flights of stairs up. Small potatoes after walking 8 miles every day the rest of our trip.

It was better than imagined. The staff are extremely nice, the rooms are amazing and so are the views. Dinner and breakfast felt perfect and it was all for a great price.

There aren't many things in walking distance, but the ryokan had everything we needed.

The ryokan was gorgeous, beautiful view, very well appointed. The private onsen was incredible, looking out over Atami Bay. I felt very relaxed enjoying the hot tea provided. The dinner and breakfast were awesome and private. The service at the ryokan was exceptional as well, from the email communication beforehand, to the pickup/dropoff service, to our baggage handling, to the servers at the restaurant. High quality pajamas too. All 10/10.

I only wish we could have had dinner in our room! But really not a big deal at all.

The staff were attentive and very helpful. They would call the room to inform us of meal times (breakfast/dinner) which would usually be a several course meal overlooking the view from a semi-private booth. They also arranged to pick us up from the nearest station as well as drop-off at the end of our stay.

Not a huge complaint at all but during our stay, the night shift staff spoke more English than the day shift staff. Not a huge issue because for the most part we understood each other. There were also 2-3 different types of yukata/casual wear they offered to us to wear during our stay but the intro booklet only explained how to wear a yukata. I wish there was more detail about the other outfits they provided about when to wear them or some history.

Staying at Watei Kazekomichi was an unforgettable experience. The private apartment offered breathtaking views, and having an onsen right there was such a special luxury. The people there were wonderful, going above and beyond to make my stay feel personalized and welcoming. The food was perfect—each meal felt like a work of art, both in taste and presentation. I can’t wait to go back; it’s a place that truly embodies relaxation and beauty. Highly recommend to anyone looking for an incredible stay in Atami. ❤️

The air condition was a bit noisy at night in my room. I would appreciate it if there is a public washing machine.

Wonderful ryokan that matched all the expectations for traditional Japanese hospitality. Very efficient and kind staff. Great service but not in an overwhelming way. My mother and I both loved the onsen with the beautiful view of the ocean. (Bonus - it was fun to watch the trains coming and going through the train station from a distance at night, plus the pretty night view of the small city.) The breakfast was very delicious and beautiful. The owner dropped us off at Atami station when we left. Highly recommend this place.

Nothing.

My fiance and I had an amazing stay. The room was even better than expected (and I had high expectations) and the private onsen was divine. I stayed in Yugao which had a great view of the ocean from both the balcony and dining area. I love how they set up the dining area - each room has its own private booth facing the view. At first I was slightly disappointed to find that meals would not be served in our room, but after experiencing the dining at Watei I prefer how they set up the meals. Breakfast and dinner was not included in our booking, but we added it. The food was great, Michelin level. It was perhaps one of my favorite meals in Japan. I think I liked the dinner course more than the breakfast.

It would be nice if the TV was a smart TV. I think this hotel has many international travelers so it would be nice if we could've used the TV to either cast or watch something not in Japanese.

Our 2nd stay here in 5 years, exceptional boutique hotel managed fantastically and with pride. We will be back soon again. Relaxing environment and traditional Japanese Ryokan with many modern amenities. Heated outdoor shower tile, private open air onsen, clean interior, and large/functional floor plan with sitting areas for dining/reading, fast WiFi. Complimentary tea, coffee, water, beer and bites are a nice touch. Service is truly second to none and was awesome! They even served us hand made mochi and heat pads for the evening! The chef makes very good meals and we were impressed! Excellent alcohol selection. Close to Atami’s main area near train station, plum garden close by. The cost of our stay vs what you get commends incredible value and we recommend staying at least 2 nights to soak in the experience.

Common areas and room are neat, and very clean, although there‘a dust built up in corners and above our heads on beams/air vents. My wife is very sensitive and allergic so she had a hard time breathing well. We were provided an air filter but a better job dusting should be done given the 4-star level. Maybe it’s a sign of how mineral rich the hot spring water is (which is good) but the outdoor tub could use cleaning/scraping of mineral build up. We were disappointed with the toilet bidet nozzles having black build up which wasn’t pleasant. Given the age and wear/tear of the room it could use general re-finishing/polishing of wood that’s been scratched/worn down. Overall these won’t stop us from revisiting but recommend some general upkeep in these areas.

The staff and their hospitality service was excellent, that we could sit back, relax and enjoy the excellent experience of WA-Tei Kazekomichi they made our stay very relaxing and comforting. Everything around us were chosen with the utmost care from the entrance to our room, their Kaiseki cuisine exquisite.( our breakfast and our dinner were scrumptious ) Compliment to the chef Yuya Shimura and the staff great hospitality. My husband and I enjoy our 33 years Anniversary very much, we love our cozy room, Sawarabi, our own private open bath, that’s the best as we enjoy being surrounded by the beautiful nature and overlooking the serenity scenery of Atami Bay.

Everything was excellent.
