I loved the location, size of the room, Staff, bathroom.

I did not like we had no option to a room with a queen bed and only 2 double beds, so i had to sleep in a separate bed form my partner every night. I did not like that if the room was ready before check in time, they requested an hourly fee to go into your room, even if it was ready to go and did nothing special to prepare it. I understand not committing to having the room ready, even if check in was an hour later than 99% of hotels in the world, but if the room was ready, why charge to let the guest in early? Left a bad taste... especially for a guest coming the second time and for 5 nights.

Modern comfortable accommodation in a perfect location between the main shopping districts and tourist attractions of Kyoto. Room is large for Japan and hotel is in quiet area with convenience store across the street. Bathroom is large, with separate wet room with powerful shower. We stayed three nights and really enjoyed it.

Early check-out and late check-in times, even for Japan. No cleaning by default - you have to empty your own bins and change towels at reception, which seems at odds with the standard of accommodation.

Initially I thought it was in the middle of a quiet street. Turns out it's connected to everywhere and walking a short distance to cross the river to kawaramachi shopping street. And lots of eateries. Conveniently located. Be prepared to walk to everywhere. Staffs were very friendly and helpful. They didn't hesitate to help when they saw I was struggling with more than 2 luggages.

Check out time was too early at 10am...

Located between two stations and a busway, Rinn Gion Shirakawa was perfectly located for our stay in Kyoto. We had a lovely view of the river and ample space for our suitcases. The bathroom was spacious and the room was serviced once during our 5 night stay. I used the washer/dryer and completed a single load in two hours for 600yen. The washing was not quite dry but a little creative hanging in the room overnight did the job. We loved the location for easy access to restaurants and conveniences and even walked to Kiyomizudera Temple which took only 30 minutes. The staff were very helpful for meal recommendations and arranging a taxi at the end of our stay. Thank you Rian Gion Shirakawa, we loved our stay. (Photo is the view from our room number 302)

More pillows would have been handy as we like having two each.

The hotel is located very close both to the very atmospheric Gion Shinbashi bridges and quiet little streets, and to the busy Hanamikoji Street – which makes it both lovely in the evenings, and practical to walk or take both metros and buses. The bedroom was clean, beautiful and very comfortable, with two big beds, a small couch, and a bathroom with separated toilets. The staff helped us to book a taxi the last day and indicated the destination to the driver in order to make sure we would get there without problems (which is not always easy with Japanese addresses).

The window had a view on a wall and the shutters were therefore closed by default – which was not a problem for us as we were away all day.

The hotel is beautiful, lovely furnishings, lighting, blackout blinds, his and hers sinks, regular height bed but nice low table and sofa and tatami mat in the room so a Japanese feel without having to sleep on the floor. Receptionists polite and helpful. Kettle and fridge in the room. Location great, in Gion area, close to subway stations.

There is only one washing machine and dryer for guest use so it was quite an effort to find it free. The dryer worked very poorly, we ran 2 cycles and still the laundry was wet so we ended up with washing hanging all over our room.

The property is extremely well located in Gion with nice facilities. I stayed for a week and felt at home. There are a lot of nice restaurants in the neighborhood and it’s close to basically anything you would want to do.

The staff overall was really friendly and respectful. There was one non Japanese staff who I think just started who was on her phone and didn’t welcome guests. Maybe I’m too used to normal Japanese service, but it rubbed me the wrong way.

Rinn Gion Shirakawa was the best hotel of 4 in Japan. The room was huge 32sqm and the view over the river was like being in Paris. The location is perfect: close to 2 metro stations and 2 bridges that take you to markets, museum and central shopping. Gion itself is full of character and small streets with shrines temples and great little restaurants. The hotel provided loads of towels, we had a Nespresso machine, the bathroom was lovely. We used the laundry for $6 and our room was serviced on day 3 of 5 which was enough for us. The staff were very polite, helpful and spoke English well. We really enjoyed our stay here and it was great value for money too.

There was a little road noise but only because we wanted the river view on that side. It didn't bother us at all.

We really enjoyed our 8 day stay at this hotel. It was right in the center of Gion and gets an A+ for location. The staff was friendly and the amenities were generous. The room was very big and came with a tatami mat area, offering us plenty of space to sprawl out, and a huge bathroom area. We had a nice view of the Kamo river from our window. Everything was clean and comfortable. It is the perfect place for a longer stay in Kyoto where one can unwind after a long day of sightseeing.

Location was excellent, between two stations and about a 5 minute walk into the main shopping area. Clean and a nicely furnished room. The additional hairties were a lovely touch. The slippers were fantastic quality.

They only cleaned my room once during the 6 night stay, you can pay extra for it if you wish. However, there were plenty of towels by the washing machine area to replenish clean towels. The hanging space was limited, so dresses could not be hung. There were no hooks on the door in the bathroom to hang towels.
