Everything about the property is awesome. The room that we booked, double bed is amazingly big. The bathroom is well equipped, has towel warmers and their washlet is the the best we’ve seen in Japan period

The hotel is beautiful and the rooms are huge. Beds and pillows are the best that we have yet experienced in Japan. Separate toilet in its own room is a big plus and the bathroom - wow! A super modern Japanese and western shower and a bathtub with a small jet function to get micro bubbles (and also a tv to enjoy while bathing). Excellent amenities. Walk about 5 minutes to get in a subway. Walk about 7-10 minutes to get to the other side of river where the night life is active. Location of the hotel is in the beautiful old Gion districts north side close to the river. Coffee and green tea and black tea from the breakfast was very good. I would definitely recommend to stay here if you can afford the room price. If you get a deal with less than 150-200€/day it’s definitely worth it. My price for two nights was a little over 40 000 yen in the highest floor with a view to the Gion city in February.

The hotel doesn’t have a restaurant. This means that if you order a breakfast, you will get a bento-box with either Japanese food or western style food depending on your preference. If you are a pair I would encourage to order one of each to taste everything. Breakfast is served to the rooms with coffee and green tea and you can change coffee for brown tea. However even though it’s nice to get the breakfast delivered to your own room at a time of choice, the quality of the actual food taste wise was just ok. I would in the future probably just go to the cafe’s and restaurant close by for a breakfast. The breakfast isn’t however so expensive, so take it to taste or at least for the excellent green tea and coffee.

First of all, the staff was exceedingly welcoming so checking in, even though we arrived early, was the initial hint that we were going to enjoy our stay, and we did! We selected a front-facing, thus facing the river, room with a balcony and the size and roominess surprised us. Forewarning: the vehicle noice just below may be bothersome so be aware when choosing a room. We slept through most of it…Breakfast is served in your room, which we loved! Everything else in the room, bath, bedding, cleanliness is superb. Too, the convenience to the old city is why we chose to stay here, and we were not disappointed for it is but a few blocks from everything wonderful aspect of old Kyoto. It is a great hotel choice!

Nothing for all was wonderful…

Location, amneties, friendliness, big room

Breakfast was served to your room and it was just okay, not so much to our taste. You can choose between japanese and international breakfast set.

Huge room, more like a western hotel room size. Sofa bed and table for dining in the room. Bath was jacuzzi style, with oxygenated micro bubble function in addition to traditional Japanese shower. Excellent view of the river and trees in their autumn livery. For those who have to open every cupboard and drawer in hotel rooms, there’s a surprise that awaits!

It’s close to the street so road noise may be an issue. Windows are not tinted so drivers stopped for traffic lights can look into the room. Can faintly hear subway trains in the quiet of the night for rooms facing the street due to the tunnel ventilation.

Terrific property located within walking distance to key shrines, Gion district, potoncho alley and the Nishiki market. Serviced well by public transport, with only a short walk either to trains or buses. The accommodation itself was very comfortable with lots of little touches that brought a smile to the face. Staff were terrific too.

Unfortunately their television set did not support streaming services like Netflix or YouTube. For foreigners who would like to catch up with shows or the news etc in the own language in the evening, this wasn’t a possibility. Hardly a deal breaker but this would have been the icing on the cake.

Great location and very clean hotel. Super quiet. Within walking distance of two stations and an easy cab ride (about £10 or $13) to the Shinkansen station for those arriving and leaving if you’re getting the high speed train. Getting around is incredibly easy. The staff at the hotel were so friendly. They couldn’t do enough to help.Japanese breakfasts were a great touch. The hotel is in the Gion district so all the local shrines and hills are very close. I also have to recommend Mr Soy too- a wonderful doughnut place just ten minutes from the hotel. The best in the world! Will definitely stay here again.

Nothing. It was wonderful.

Loved the room, it was spacious and smart, we had a control panel on the wall just beside the bed that allowed us to control the lights, curtains, and air condition. This means that we do not have to go around the whole room looking for switches to turn off before we go to bed. The view on the lower floor wasn't as good but overall did not affect our trip. The toilet facilities was one of the best we've had in Japan so far, with good water pressure and is overall large/clean.

We specially selected a room with a river view and paid slightly more for that but at level 2, we couldn't see much of the river to be honest, we had cars and pedestrians right outside our balcony so most of the time we had the curtains drawn for privacy. I would suggest that though it indeed was on the riverside, they shouldn't be charging for a river view for floors 1 and 2 but instead only mark the room as a River View room from floor 3 onwards if that makes sense. For one who is looking for a good review view, I would suggest to request for a higher floor!

We did not take advantage of the breakfast offered by the hotel - not big eaters in the morning -so took advantage of the 7/11 down the street and purchased yoghurts which we kept in the room refrigerator. Good location - close to Gion and the older part of Kyoto - we were slightly early for Sakura season - but the trees out in front of the hotel along the river will be bursting with blooms within a week or two. I was concerned that we were not super close to Kyoto Station - but a quick cab ride solved that problem easily. So many walkable areas from the hotel. Staff is kind, super helpful, room was impeccable. We had a corner twin room - so more space. Highly recommend.

How can I write 3 sentences when our experience at Hotel Alza Kyoto was so wonderful? I guess the only "complaint" I would have is that our elderly sweet older taxi driver from Kyoto Station didn't know where the hotel was and had to call his supervisor. After a few false turns, he finally found it with the help of my iphone and GoogleMaps.

Very nice rooms. The beds are comfortable, and the view of the city is great. The location is very ideal for getting around Kyoto via walking and public transportation. The staff was very helpful and spoke great English. For the most part, it was quiet at night.

It’s somewhat close to street level, so you may hear people being loud at night or cars honking. I only was woken up once over the 5 nights I spent here, at 3:00am by a car honking. This could’ve happened no matter the location, and the central location more than makes up for being in a potentially noisier location. Overall it was very quiet
