This hotel is fantastic value for money. The rooms are spacious even by European standards I’d say, but especially by Tokyo standards they’re huge! The price is very reasonable given how convenient the location is (literally 2 mins walk from Shin Okubo station which is on the main Yamamote line and only one stop from Shinjuku/3 stops from Shibuya)

The decor is certainly quite dated but that didn’t bother me at all personally. The only thing I’d say is that some of the rooms (including the one I stayed in) are right next to the main road of Shin Okubo, so it can get a bit noisy at night on the weekends, but if you’re like me then it won’t bother you at all; I’d only say it’s worth worrying about it you’re very sensitive to noise, but you could probably just request a room facing away from the main road anyway so I doubt it’d be an issue.

Room was extremely big! We had ample space to put our luggage and had a lot walking room too. Shower room was big, bathtub was large compared to the prefabricated ones. Plugs were abundant and we had no problems with them. Right below the hotel is a Don Quijote, Great for midnight drinks and snacks. \ Good customer service, helped me open my door after i left my key inside.

We had a earthquake at that time!! Was a interesting experience, went back to sleep afterwards. Toilet kept wasting water whenever we flushed it. You have to turn back the knob after flushing.

Everything is great. The 24/7 Don Quijote store is right downstairs from the hotel, which is very convenient as I can buy anything I need. There are also 24/7 restaurants nearby, and the hotel is very close to the station. Additionally, the room I stayed in was very spacious. Although some of the facilities are a bit old, everything else was fine. However, one thing to note is that the front desk staff do not recognize guests or their room numbers, and since you have to return the key every time you leave the hotel, this could pose a security risk.

Location is great, right between 2 metro stops with easy access to Shinjuku area but it’s not as crazy! So many food options steps away, 7Eleven, grocery stores, and restaurants. Our room had a fridge, comfortable beds, great pillows and there was a microwave on each floor. For the price and location it couldn’t be beat. It’s older and definitely not a luxury hotel but it was clean and had everything needed for a great stay. Staff was always very friendly. We were a group of 4 and liked leaving the key at the front desk when we left. Never had to worry about who had the key or who was going back first because the key was always there waiting for us.

It was very spacious, looked like old english, very homey feel. There was a small table set, complete toiletries, kettle and hair dryer. Good water pressure and good heating. The location was great, it was very near the Shin-Okubo station (1 station away from Shinjuku) and just by the street corner there is a Don Quijote that seems 24hrs or at least when we went there it was still open at 2am. Yoshinoya just a few steps away. Receptionist and staff were nice. You can buy cheap water from the lobby.

Everything was good and okay, except that the toilet was not fixed on the floor, the back part was tilting whenever we sit. There was no regulation with their coin laundry, customers can just leave their finished laundry and the admin will not touch it even if it’s already done and there’s a next customer waiting. The big wall window was frost tinted and there was only a small portion at the bottom, so if you want to see outside you need your squat or kneel on the floor.

In this budget this is probably the best hotel we can ever find. I give it a 10/10 because: -the location is ideal, 2 minutes away from a major train station, a huge choice of shops and restaurants in the area, you even have a DonQuijote directly attached to the hotel. -the hotel is amazing, clean rooms, and our room was so big (compared to the hotels in a similar budget in Tokyo) and the bathroom was big also. We were so happy with the room that if we go again to Tokyo, we’ll book this hotel again. There are 2 washing machines at the guests disposal which is great for travelers. -Staff at the reception are very nice and friendly.

Only bad point were the dryers that didn't dry my clothes. I ended up having to go to a laundromat to dry my clothes.

Quirky hotel with fantastic room size and bathroom shower in an exceptional location. Always clean and roomy for a family of 4. Access to all parts of the city with two train lines a short distance away and to the rest of tokyo. We were pleasantly surprised - the location is absolutely amazing.

Bringing luggage up stairs as there is no elevator but not a big deal to us. Also, having to give keys back to reception each time you leave, however we have found this a common practice at other hotels also

We chose this hotel because the room was a good size and had storage compared to much more expensive and TINY rooms closer to the centre. It was just a couple of subway stops from the centre which was not a problem at all as anyway you get to most places by subway. Plenty of grocery stores and eating options right there. The room was clean and the bed and bedding very comfortable. A/C worked well, huge windows so it was nice and bright, with good blackout curtains, Kettle, fridge all good. Water and umbrellas available at reception. Washing machine and dryer for guest use.

We knew from the reviews that the room was dated and a little shabby and indeed it was but we took that into account when booking so were not surprised or disappointed. There was a little rust in the bath, the sink taps leaked a bit, wallpaper peeling in one place. But still it was very comfortable and good value for money. You have to walk up a steep flight of stairs from the street to the hotel but staff will help you with suitcases if you ring the intercom.

The room was very big considering its location, very near shin-okobu and Okubo station. although the interior design is outdated and old (the bathtub has some rusts) the room is very clean. it has the basic toiletries so that is also nice. They also have coin washing machines and dyer where you can do laundry (100 yen per load) but overall I am pleased with our stay at Royal Hotel Shinokubo.

like most hotels in japan, you have to pay for early check in. also you have to leave your room keys every time you go out.

I didn’t expect it to be so big especially in such a location, toilet was really clean and tidy, staff would always ask us every morning if we needed room cleaning and there is washing machines and we can borrow whatever we need from the staff if they have it

The only tiny problem I had was there wasn’t a door to the bathroom so basically the toilet had its own room and shower area had its own door but where the sink was there wasn’t a door but wasn’t a very big problem
