This hotel is fantastic value for money. The rooms are spacious even by European standards I’d say, but especially by Tokyo standards they’re huge! The price is very reasonable given how convenient the location is (literally 2 mins walk from Shin Okubo station which is on the main Yamamote line and only one stop from Shinjuku/3 stops from Shibuya)

The decor is certainly quite dated but that didn’t bother me at all personally. The only thing I’d say is that some of the rooms (including the one I stayed in) are right next to the main road of Shin Okubo, so it can get a bit noisy at night on the weekends, but if you’re like me then it won’t bother you at all; I’d only say it’s worth worrying about it you’re very sensitive to noise, but you could probably just request a room facing away from the main road anyway so I doubt it’d be an issue.

Room was extremely big! We had ample space to put our luggage and had a lot walking room too. Shower room was big, bathtub was large compared to the prefabricated ones. Plugs were abundant and we had no problems with them. Right below the hotel is a Don Quijote, Great for midnight drinks and snacks. \ Good customer service, helped me open my door after i left my key inside.

We had a earthquake at that time!! Was a interesting experience, went back to sleep afterwards. Toilet kept wasting water whenever we flushed it. You have to turn back the knob after flushing.

We chose this hotel because the room was a good size and had storage compared to much more expensive and TINY rooms closer to the centre. It was just a couple of subway stops from the centre which was not a problem at all as anyway you get to most places by subway. Plenty of grocery stores and eating options right there. The room was clean and the bed and bedding very comfortable. A/C worked well, huge windows so it was nice and bright, with good blackout curtains, Kettle, fridge all good. Water and umbrellas available at reception. Washing machine and dryer for guest use.

We knew from the reviews that the room was dated and a little shabby and indeed it was but we took that into account when booking so were not surprised or disappointed. There was a little rust in the bath, the sink taps leaked a bit, wallpaper peeling in one place. But still it was very comfortable and good value for money. You have to walk up a steep flight of stairs from the street to the hotel but staff will help you with suitcases if you ring the intercom.

The room was very big considering its location, very near shin-okobu and Okubo station. although the interior design is outdated and old (the bathtub has some rusts) the room is very clean. it has the basic toiletries so that is also nice. They also have coin washing machines and dyer where you can do laundry (100 yen per load) but overall I am pleased with our stay at Royal Hotel Shinokubo.

like most hotels in japan, you have to pay for early check in. also you have to leave your room keys every time you go out.

I didn’t expect it to be so big especially in such a location, toilet was really clean and tidy, staff would always ask us every morning if we needed room cleaning and there is washing machines and we can borrow whatever we need from the staff if they have it

The only tiny problem I had was there wasn’t a door to the bathroom so basically the toilet had its own room and shower area had its own door but where the sink was there wasn’t a door but wasn’t a very big problem

Shin-Okubo is an incredibly fun neighborhood to stay in because it is Tokyo's "Koreatown." We loved being sandwiched between two accessible stations - Okubo and Shin-Okubo because it made accessing the rest of Tokyo incredibly easy. The actual hotel was solid with all of the amenities we needed - a very nice sized bathroom/jacuzzi, separate toilet and then the powder room. We were careful to keep the blinds closed because our hotel looked out to a major street. Everything was comfortable and easy. The staff at the hotel allowed us to drop off bags early and keep bags late to allow for additional exploration without needing to use a coin-locker! I am so glad we stayed here.

I honestly enjoyed this spot quite a bit. I am used to more pillows which we could have possibly asked for. The location could be overwhelming for a person that does not enjoy hustle and bustle as it got incredibly busy in the evening. The hotel is on the second floor and they do not have an elevator to the first so accessibility requires additional attention. If folks needed that support, they could contact the staff but I imagine it'd be easier to stay at a hotel without a stairwell walk-up.

I like the hotel’s location near the Shin Okubo and Okubo station. Restaurants are very near the hotel, Don Quijote is just around the corner , there were atleast 4 convenience store nearby, a big grocery store too.The hotels room is dated but I like it and most of all very spacious for Japan standard. The bathroom and toilet is separated.. You can also do your laundry for 100¥. They also clean the room everyday. Good value for money. Will stay here again.

The steep flight of stairs to carry our luggage. No elavator towards the Front Desk. Early checkout at 10am.

Located close to the train station with plenty of shops and restaurants close by. For Japan, the rooms are extremely large and spacious. The air conditioner is new and works well. it’s quiet and the beds are medium hardness, harder than European medium, but soft in Japanese standard. The hotel sells bottled water and umbrellas which suits a traveler well.

The rooms and hotel is quite dated. Everything is old and worn. They don’t make hotel rooms like this any longer. The lobby and guest area is also dated and a bit messy, however this place was once an extremely nice place. Marbled walls are witnesses from a time gone.

Location was good, as although it wasn't in the very centre of Shinjuku, it was very close (2 or 4 min walk) to two stations which had regular, short connections to the main Shinjuku station. There are lots of restaurants/shops/places to eat nearby the hotel. The twin room (5th floor) was very large, with a separate sink, shower and toilet room. Double room (reception floor) was also large.

Shower water pressure on the 5th floor was very very low - difficult to wash hair with. Apparently it was fine on the reception floor. Decor is quite dated, but the spaciousness makes up for it. You need to leave the key at reception if you leave the hotel.

The hotel is very near to Shin-Okubo station, only minutes away. The station has lift access from platform to ground floor, with luggages in tow, makes it so easy to get to hotel. Don donki is just below the hotel, while there are Family Mart and Lawsons on the same street. So easy to get your necessities. Room and bathroom are spacious. Water pressure is pretty good.

No lift to the hotel lobby, don't bring too large a luggage if you can't lift it up the 2 flight of stairs No water provided in hotel room
