The Spencer Hotel

The view from our room was exceptional. We were able to see Rangitoto Island and across Takapuna Bay as well as back to the city. We saw some incredible sunrises. The bed was very comfortable. The location is excellent and we easily walked to dinner down in Takapuna township both nights. Loved the lap pool.

If you are going to provide a full kitchen with oven it would be great to have some oven proof cookware. Also a dishcloth to do dishes and wipe benches? We enjoyed the lap pool very much but the spa was at first too hot on the first day and then not hot enough the following day. Also the spa was too deep for me to sit comfortably on the seat and have my head above water. As the hotel is most accessible by car it is unfortunate that parking is so expensive.

I didn't realise how luxurious my suite was going to be. The kitchen (which I barely used) was better appointed than the one at home! The range of TV channels was much better than the usual Sky service in hotels. Even more impressive was the perfectly framed view of Rangitoto through the picture window in the lounge. It was also a short distance from Takapuna Beach and numerous cafes, bars and restaurants.

The bathroom was fine and well appointed but has possibly seen better days (a couple of broken tiles, for example). But that is a quibble. I also have a standard gripe involving too few powerpoints (none in the bedroom, for instance).

Beautiful views over Auckland Harbour to city ad of lake Takapuna. Comfy bed, handy to everything shops beach, cafes bars etc helpful staff

Kitchen was a little scarce if large bowls etc not as well equipped as others we stay in for same price, we froze on the first night as air con was on cold setting for a chilly night. This was sorted next day. We only got one toilet roll at a time and had to ask for more

The check in process was very painful. For some reason I couldn’t pay for my room when I checked in, I had to do a deposit which I was told was $100 but then was charged $385 which was $100 more than what the room should have been. If I had been traveling overseas and this happened I would have been very wary that something dodgy was happening.

Balcony rooms, sea views, pool, gym, great shower, clean and comfortable, lots of great places to eat in Takapuna nearby. The desk staff were really friendly and very helpful, kept our coffee and fresh milk topped up & sorted taxis for us,

Odd mix of private apartments and hotel accomodation. No restaurant or room service food, but they do sell frozen meals you can microwave up in your room. Only one Hard chair in our room.

Beautiful views and well equipped rooms! Great having twin Queen beds when travelling with a performance group. The check in staff for so lovely and accommodating and the location was excellent.

The bed was extremely uncomfortable and I walked away with needing to seek some kind of medical treatment to deal with my painful shoulder / neck.

Spacious rooms with balconies, USB sockets next to the desk, all fittings were modern and in excellent condition, staff are warm, very professional & competent. I slept really well, too - the beds seem to be a good blend between soft and supportive. Room was well soundproofed and the blackout drapes are very good.

Theres nothing significant to dislike! The only thing I’d say is that there was no rubbish bin in the room, only in the bathroom.

Friendly staff, great location close to shops, cafe's and restaurants, fantastic view across the harbour from our room. Room was well setup and easy to move around, and bathroom was accessible with a nice firm water flow in the shower. There was easy access from the room to the lift to the carpark or reception area.

Good amenities, including gym, tennis court and pools. Very friendly and helpful staff at the reception. Good location close to the beach and restaurant and shopping area.

A poor wifi connection.
