The hotel was in a beautiful location, surrounded by palm trees, and close to the town centre. Kerikeri is a gorgeous town, so green and charming. The apartment was of a good size, with a kitchen annexe, and it contained all the essentials. The bathroom was of good standard, too.

The bed was supposed to be king-size or large double, but it was just a double, and we didn't have enough space. It wasn't comfy, either, and we had a bad night. The hotel owner was so keen to take the payment that he didn't even wait for our arrival, although we turned up quite early around 3 pm. He also charged my credit card, which I didn’t want to use as it involved extra charges from my bank. So, in the end, it cost me more than it should. The air-con was too strong and just over the bed, so we had to turn it off, but then we were very hot at night.

This is the second time we've stayed here and again we enjoyed it. Mark was so lovely, the cottage was clean and well-appointed, it was quiet and we all slept well. Fabulous pool and the choccies at reception, cookies/milk/water in our room and available board games were nice little extras. Great location. Oh and the air conditioning was amazing

Our room was tidied up each day (beds made, cookies & tea/coffee re-stocked, any dishes we'd not gotten to yet were done etc) but our wet towels weren't taken or new ones supplied (though we could access more from the guest services area) and it wasn't vacuumed during our (3-night) stay. Also, although the pressure is great, there is only a rain shower head and no regular shower head so although it might be lovely if washing your hair - it was a bit impractical and trying to keep hair dry was tricky. The kids struggled a bit too.

Wow, this has been a great experience! The Colonial House Motel is a lovely place, a beautiful garden, nice rooms, filled with hospitality. Owner Mark personally showed us our room, making us feel welcome from the very first second on. The room is equipped with everything an (overseas) tourist needs. In our room there was even a travel adapter power plug. Laundry service is available complete with clothes airers. When we arrived, Mark was working in the garden. Upon arrival he said we came on a good time: time also for a short break from gardening. This was another way we felt very welcome. The owners not just own this place, they live it. They live hospitality. Thanks very much, Mark and Paula. I would highly recommend the Colonial House Motel for anyone travelling in the Kerikeri and Bay of Islands area.

Unit had everything we needed. Well equipped kitchenette and very nice bathroom. Coffee was really good! Coffee bags are A novelty for us. It was a wonderfully quiet place and close to walking trail. TV was a good size for those of us with failing eyesight! Lovely grounds. Helpful owners. Very clean Inside. Bedding high quality. At northern end of town so a quick EXIT TO Waipapa

Privacy curtains in the front would have been nice as you are rather exposed. Also the bath spa pump did not seem to work , not that it mattered as bath was comfortable and water hot! Beds are very soft so for those with back issues that was a problem. Not for me though as very cosy with lovely bedding.

I had made an error in the booking but our charming host, Mark was amazing and fitted us in, changing other pre- bookings to the Motel as we needed His kind attention was extraordinary. He even gave us a complimentary drink on arrival. Quiet location, spotlessly clean and extremely well appointed suite. Everything was perfect.

NOTHING - everything was excellent. Very well appointed and furnished suite. Shall hope we can come again and would recommend to any visitors looking for a great motel.

The Colonial is a hidden gem, surrounded by lovely gardens, a stones throw from the centre of Kerikeri but was a quiet oasis. We loved the homely cabin, was just perfect for our needs. The bed was comfy and the shower was awesome. We had our room cleaned daily, with lovely fresh towels also. Loved the makeup towel, grey instead of white. Don't like leaving makeup stains on white towels, so this idea is genius. A woman's idea I suspect! We had booked for 7 nights but missed one due to a baggage stuff up at Auckland airport , so we're disappointed we didn't get the chance at having all 7. However upon arriving on the 2nd day we received a very friendly greeting (and a jug of milk) from Mark. He loves to chat about the NRL, so he and my partner had many discussions about that. Also loved that they use refillable containers in the bathroom, for shampoo etc. Disappointed that we couldn't take little bottles with us but loved this environmental stand. Bravo guys. Parking outside cabin was great. Pool area looked beautiful, as did the pool but the water was just a tad cold (being April) for these 2 Queenslanders!

That we couldn't stay longer

The owners were incredibly kind, helpful and approachable. Their accessible suite was functional and still attractive. Soft beds, air conditioning, TV, modest but useful kitchenette facilities (sink, microwave, fridge, cooktop). Towels were washed every day and complimentary tea, coffee etc was provided, as well as some milk and a drink on arrival. The suite itself was beautiful, with high ceilings, and functionally laid out for its small size. The motel is easily accessible from town and right off the main road, yet situated amongst beautiful bushland and close to Kerikeri's attractions. I walked everywhere easily. Perfect level of privacy despite close proximity to quiet neighbours. Overall, I loved this accommodation and would stay here again!

The (beautiful) high loft window had no way to shutter it, which meant the light came in early in the morning. The water was somewhat opaque when hot, but I believe this is a feature of Kerikeri as a whole and no fault of the owners.

Quiet location, felt relaxing with the bush and nature all around the facility. the unit was well appointed for privacy. the bed was one of the most comfortable I have slept on , and the giant pillows ensured a beautiful night of sleep. Everything you need is within the unit. I ordered a vegetarian cooked breakfast which was great value for $15. There were hash browns, baked beans, poached egg on toast, mushrooms to replace the meat, small fresh tomatoes and orange juice. I also arranged a 1pm check in, instead of 2pm. The owners were very friendly and hospital. location was good for Kerikeri town and Stone Store area. I stayed 1 night and it was a really good opportunity to catch up on some rest .

The ambience , the beautiful surroundings . Mark the proprietor was lovely and so were the cleaning staff. The location from the town One direction) and the stone store and hotel and river in the other .

The only thing that I found was a problem for me , maybe not for others was the lack of a handrail when entering the pool as I found the steps quite steep so I was unable to swim .

Our little apartment was clean and comfortable, with fast wifi, easy car parking and friendly, helpful hosts. The location was terrific as it was very accessible but quiet and secluded. It is close to historic places of interest as well as the walks along and around the Kerikeri River. There is also a great place for lunch/dinner and a lovely cafe for breakfast/lunch, both within walking distance.
