Located in the heart of Paihia across the street from the beach, Ala Moana Motel is a fantastic place for travellers to stay in especially if they are travelling in a group. The staff were very friendly and were helpful in getting us settled in, as well as recommending us activities to do in the Bay of Islands. Despite it being our fourth visit, we had a wonderful time and this was enhanced by the accommodation.

Being close to the beach, the sea breeze was simply perfect however it would have been nice to have a heat pump instead of fans in the rooms.

John was so helpful with everything! When we arrived we had a plan for the following day, which we laid out for John, he offered valuable information to help us make some decisions and offered suggestions of other places we should visit as well. He got the room all set up for us, turning the heat on and showing us how to operate everything. The location was absolutely perfect - right on the water, close enough to walk to everything we would need. The size of our room was perfect, and the whole place has a carefree, fresh air, relaxing vibe about it. I would come here again and again.

We got a very warm welcome from John the owner. He also gave us a lot of information about the area and many of the local sights to see. He showed us to our room, which turned out to be a spacious, clean and well equipped 1 bedroom unit. We were pleasantly surprised. He and his staff were friendly and accommodating at all times. The room was very comfortable and there were a large number of TV channels, which was good, as there was a day of heavy rain, which precluded any outdoor activities. Restaurants, shopping, the wharf and most activities were a 3 to 5 minute walk away. The beach was just across the road from the motel. Paihia is a lovely town and the motel was beyond our expectations.

This accommodation exceeded our expectations! Originally, we were booked at an upmarket apartment that was 4x the price, decided to go for this place instead due to central location and value for money. We compared this place to our original booking and were not disappointed with our decision. The owner/manager of this property cannot do enough to ensure a great stay, working hard all day to maintain high standard, and advise on best options for tours etc. Great facilities like complimentary laundry, and 5min walk to central area & ferry wharf. we come to this motel 3-4 times a year. love the location. John, the owner, is so welcoming, accommodating, helpful and we love coming to stay. we live only an hour away but Ala Moana is our escape weekend stay!

In our room, the step into the shower maybe isn’t the easiest. We put our towels tidily on the rack - disappointed the cleaning staff simply replaced them - we tried to be eco- savvy….a little bit of smoke smells from decks below ours - be nice to be a no smoking motel but it didn’t spoil our stay - we love it there!

The place was lovely and the couple who own it were very accommodating. Simple layout but had all ya needed for a motel regarding a cooking area. They provided milk tea and coffee Has a BBQ area and an area to clean your fish outside.. Also on main road.

Not disliked just we would recommend if you have disabilities to take your own shower chair. Also check if you have steps going into the unit (although very minimal )

The host is amazing, he showed us the warmest welcome and introduced the town very thoughtfully. We checked out on Xmas day, and John sent us a Xmas chocolate with a nice package. The room is beyond my expectation. I booked this room near Xmas, thus there were not many options left for me. The room is very tidy and clean, spacious room, the beds are comfortable, and the view is as same as the promoting pics. The motel is right in town centre and there is a nice bar just next door, the location is also beyond our expectations. We really enjoyed our stay, and we will definitely come back if we visit Paihia again.

Literally right across from the beach and a short walk to the main shops of Paihia, plus a parking spot. Couldn't beat the location! The electric underlays were a nice & unexpected addition!

While it's a beachfront property, none of the rooms face the beach. The building is more utilitarian with concrete bricks, however did not get too cold.

It was really clean, within walking distance to the wharf, beach, shops, restaurants, and supermarkets. You also can take sitting on the balcony, the view from there was great. Although it doesn't have modern facilities, however, its cleanness, quietness and convenience impressed us deeply. The host and business owner John is enthusiastic and hospitable, if you have any questions, just ask him!

Have to say Ala Moana has exceeded our expectations, we don't have any comments on this question.

Everything was exceptional. The unit was very clean, comfortable and well maintained for feeling like you are home. The person from the office (sorry , don't remember the name of this lovely man) was very friendly and helpful. He gave us great advises about places to see and have refreshments.

I am a pretty picky person, but there is nothing to share =)
