Aahh!!! The perfect place to reset our circadian rhythm after such a long sleep-deprived journey from Texas, and before embarking on our 2-week cruise! Clarion Collection Hotel Gabelshus, with its lovely, peaceful, beautiful surroundings and its 1912 origins, is my kind of ideal out-of-the-past hideaway. Not only was a sumptuous breakfast included, but so was a delicious evening meal, AND before that, a Norwegian coffee and pastry break called fika ("fee-kuh") was also complimentary. Jet lag never tasted so good! We could have stayed here all day, but the whole of Oslo was yet to be discovered!

Comfortable, well furnished room. Breakfast buffet superb, with a wide range of options, well prepared. Excellent coffee machines in the dining room are available throughout the day for guests to help themselves (including hot chocolate, tea, cappuccino etc). Beautifully decorated cosy sitting areas on the ground floor for guests to have drinks, play games, read, chat etc.
Half board supper adequate but basic. Limited early time slot available 6-8pm. Pasta options had run out on first evening by 7.45 leaving an unappetising ham option along with salad bar. The kitchen was unwilling to provide replacement pasta. Also no pudding option, apparently that costs extra and needs to be ordered in advance. Overall feeling is that staff want you out of the dining room as soon as possible to allow them to lay breakfast for the next day so they can go home. Our bathroom had some glitches EG leaking bath and shower screen so we had to keep asking for replacement bath mats. Also the room door would not shut and lock properly (room 216).

Loved the location, it was only a short tram ride away from the part of city centre that we needed to access daily. Also, loved daily breakfast and dinner options. Though options were limited, they were delicious, covered all the healthy food groups, and were of great quality. In fact, I personally liked the limited options as it meant far less food waste than you see at the bigger hotels and resorts around the world these days. The room was really warm and well insulated, so even in -10/-15 degrees celsius, we were warm as toast :)
The mattress on the big bed wasn't as comfortable, I had to move to our child's bed in order to sleep well. Also, despite expressly requesting that the room be cleaned on two consecutive days (as per hotel policy, they do not clean rooms automatically during stays over 1 day, you have to request it), it was not done. The first day the cleaners missed it entirely and the second day, only the bathroom and the bins were cleaned.

Nice hotel in stately building with several lounge spaces on the ground floor. There is a restaurant and both houses are connected by glass corridor. Our wish was fulfilled and we were given room in the historical part of the hotel which has many nice features. Afternoon tea, dinner and breakfast were all included which was quite useful given prices to have a meal somewhere outside. Afternoon cake was not abundant, however everyone present got a bite or two. Dinner had only one choice of (mediocre) hot meat dish, but more choice of tasty salad and side dishes, therefore even vegetarian in our company left satisfied. The soup was perfect! Great variety of tasty options for the breakfast. The hotel is children and animal friendly. Public transport nearby.
The group of guests had intense and loud commuting between their rooms in the evening but it all ended in due time.

The hotel is in the posher parts of Oslo with a bunch of embassies all around. Super calm neighborhood with police all over. I felt really really safe here when walking from Oslo center to this beautiful quiet location. It really is value for money, you get 3 meals a day with decent food. Room was small but I selected on the cheaper end. However the bathroom was tiny. Just to small for me.
The bathroom was tiny. Could barley turn around in it. The shower was constructed in such a way no matter what I did I just had too much water on the floor. I wish the bathroom in this room size was a little bigger. I could not sit on the toilet seat with out hitting my head on the sink. The AC was hard to regulate. I found it cold in my room all the time but this seems to be standard for hotels all over the world.

It’s a beautiful building both from outside and inside. There is big common area with a fireplace to read a book or just relax. The room was small but very cute and cozy. The best part of the stay is the dinners and breakfast. It was probably the best food and service I have had in Oslo. Very tasty, fresh, great quality and variety. Although on the weekends breakfasts starts later, probably at 8, they were prepared at 7 and let me have my breakfast earlier! It was highly appreciated as I was in a rush to the airport! The chef and restaurant staff do amazing job!
It’s a little bit far from the centre (I walked approximately 15 minutes to the marine) but there are transport options just outside of the hotel.

Dear Hotel Staff, I would like to share some feedback regarding my recent stay at your establishment. Unfortunately, the additional bed provided for the second guest did not meet comfort expectations. It had a significant dip in the center, causing considerable discomfort during the night. Due to the uncomfortable position, with the head lower than the rest of the body, I had to wake up and go to the bathroom. We kindly suggest checking and improving the condition of extra beds to ensure a comfortable experience for all guests. A lovely old building, but with modern facilities. Warm, clean, and comfortable. Situated in a nice residential part of Oslo, near Vigeland Park, a short tram ride of 10 minutes into the city centre. My prior request for a walk in shower in our room, and in a renovated room, was facilitated. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Good breakfast, dinner was ok, but good value for the price of a room.
Shower was good, but impossible to use without water coming out onto the bathroom floor. Evening dinner was adequate, but little choice for main course.

Great hotel, very nicely decorated and the staff were very friendly and attentive. We were given a room in the newer part at the back of the hotel which was a little worn but after speaking to reception we swapped to a room in the original building which had clearly been renovated and was much nicer. The room was cozy, comfortable and quiet and equipped with everything we needed including a hair dryer and iron. Breakfast, dinner and coffees were included in the room rate and tasty. In the afternoons they brought out cake which we were not expecting! We really enjoyed relaxing at the hotel in-between exploring Oslo. The hotel was a short walk from the centre or there was a tram stop right outside it if it was raining.
Not a dislike but more a little bit odd, we asked reception for a bath mat for our room however bath mats are only available in suites. They did however offer us another hand towel to use.

Food is included in the rate, with breakfast, afternoon tea and light evening dinner options. Needless to say this was a pleasant surprise !
One night the hotel only offered pork options for dinner - the alternatives were all salads without any meat. I would have hoped they would have offered at least one other type of meat/poultry or fish. The staff at the restaurant is super alert (but too much!) - the food was served as an open buffet, and every we take a refill they were removing our plates or drinks that were half full (we were gone for literally 2 minutes to fetch water …). This happened 3 times … it’s a pity as it’s wasted food. So we informed the staff to kindly not touch unless we expired ask them to remove the plates. We had a problem with the water evacuating the shower - we advised the reception who kindly offered us another room to shower.
