This location is perfect since the hotel is located in the main square which is pedestrian. The breakfast is varied and extremely well done with lovely service. We also dined one evening in the HOOL restaurant which is a treat with each course well prepared and thought out. My only complaint for this hotel is the lighting in the bathroom which is tricky for makeup. The room itself could stand more electric lights but there are great reading lights. We were very comfortable with a very efficient housekeeping staff. The entire staff at the hotel is very accomodating, endlessly polite and professional. I also enjoyed being able to have such a large lounge area to do a bit of work and also relax. Coffee and tea is always available. There are many niches in the hotel to do work for business or to just relax. This is a small and intimate hotel done very, very well.

The hotel is right in the historical center of Guimarães but still offers parking (100m down the road). The room was absolutely fantastic, so comfortable and neat. We had a gorgeous balcony opened to the pedestrian street below, the bed had 3 different sort of pillows to choose from, I couldn’t fault anything. The staff was extremely cordial and kind, especially considering my husband’s mishap at breakfast when he spilled coffee all over the counter (we’re terribly sorry). They were all lovely to us from the first minute to the last! Great impression since it’s our first time in the city, but we’ll definitely be back and stay here again!

First breakfast the staff seemed not as attentive as they should have been. Customers had to ask for coffee and milk to be refilled. One refill of the coffee carafe contained less than a serving of coffee. Our kitchen order was not right though that may have been my problem since I don’t speak the language. There is an open bottle of sparkling wine on ice but no glasses. First morning I asked for glasses. Second morning I did not bother.

Great location in the historic area. Had to park our car in an off-site garage because cars not allowed in the area. Hotel directed us and made it easy. Very reasonable price. Buffet breakfast was very good. There was an option for eggs made to order, but we we wanted to get on the road early so we didn't take advantage of that. Dinner at the HOOL restaurant was very good and weather was perfect for eating outdoors. Only downside was a large group of many smoking cigars (maybe allowing that it standard in Portugal, but not in the U.S.).

The staff at the Hotel are amazing and responsive. They were helpful with several special requests. The room and beds were comfortable and tastefully decorated. The brunch was very good. The location in the historic center made exploration for us, as walkers, very easy. Directions to nearby parking were helpful.

As a person with sensitive hearing, I found the evening festivities in the courtyards outside disruptive. This would not be an issue for anyone who is a night owl and enjoys being part of the party. The staff were very generous in offering us another, quieter room.

Location: excellent. Breakfast: was very very good. Selection of fruit, cereals, yoghurts, cooked breakfast, breads, jams, etc was much more than expected. Room: was a good size, bed very comfortable, bathroom was well appointed - everything was spotless. Although the hotel is in the centre of a popular area we did not hear any noise inside. Staff were very helpful, pleasant, and went out of their way to help us. eg online booking of seats on airport bus, taxis etc.

The hotel is in the cenre of a pedestrian area and therefore you have to get your cases a short distance to the hotel. We had a taxi driver from an another area who was not familiar with the town centre and had to drop us off on the edge of a square. I left my friend with all our cases whilst I went for help. The hotel name on the outside is HOOL and I was running around looking for 'Oliveria' but a friendly restaurant waiter pointed it out to me. The hotel staff were very helpful and we had assistance with our cases.

Top location at old city center, very nice decoration, nice and comfortable room, friendly staff and very good breakfast. Good value for the money, will return on my next visit to the city.

When I was checking in, a guest came up behind me asking questions, I lost the receptionist's attention for a moment and had to repeat what I was telling her. Not a big deal, but it didn't feel like the right way to handle the situation.

The property was perfect. A lovely old building in the square. The room was stunning with the view over the square and to the church. The shuttered windows and small balcony was delightful. The room was huge and very tastefully decorated. The breakfast was delicious and we enjoyed people watching sat on the square as we ate our breakfast. The staff were very friendly and helpful. A place like this anywhere else in Europe would cost a lot more money! Heaven!

The only slight negative is the bed although delightfully comfortable with lovely bed linen, has two queen size mattresses rather than the king size double so if you want to be romantic you find yourselves falling through the gap at night 😉

Reception staff were all friendly and helpful. When we reported that the air conditioning was noisey, they accepted there was a problem, and went out of their way help us get the windows open, so we didn't need the air conditioning. Also, the breakfast was great and the staff worked hard to make it so.

As mentioned above, the the air conditioning was extremely noisey. They said that the engineer had been booked to fix it, sometime in the future. I suppose they could have mentioned it when we booked in so we could have avoided the stress of trying to live with it.

The location is top! Right on the bustling town square. Inside the hotel and rooms its very quiet and pleasant. The lobby is really cool, full of interesting books to browse. We were welcomed by the lovely reception staff with espresso and delicious homemade cookies (we’re just sorry we didn’t ask for the recipe). During our short stay the staff were very attentive and took care of everything we needed swiftly and professionally. The rooms themselves are nice, quite basic decor-wise but very clean, spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious. And dinner at the hotel’s restaurant, was a memorable experience and the best meal of the trip! We highly recommend you stay here. Personally we were thinking of staying in Braga but glad we ended up going for the smaller, more charming Guimaraes.
