The hotel was generally attractive with quite a number of interesting artworks on display. Our room was also very comfortable, although we didn't have much of a view outside because of scaffolding for the ongoing work on the building. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful., especially as I needed directions to the local hospital. The location was nice and central, although further from the train station than we had expected.

Works on the building covered the front of the hotel, spoiling the look and partially blocking the view from the windows. However, we weren0t disturbed by any noise as a result of this.

Location location. Although it's rated as 2star, the deco inside was welcoming and comfortable. The WiFi speed was excellent (streamed Netflix!) and the breakfast selection was good with excellent Portuguese quality coffee. The hotel only has 15 rooms, some varying in size. Our friends had a walk-in shower while we had an overhead shower in the bathtub. Quality hairdresser in bathroom and plenty of English TV channels. Comfy beds and large pillows! Aircon worked fine too as middle of heatwave. Must stress location. Walking distance from bus station (10min) and easy access to main square with all the restaurants, bars and castle, palace etc etc. Overall, Guimaraes is such a pretty clean town and cable car to the sanctuary is worth doing. We walked from town centre (15min). Definitely stay again.

Only 3 floors so no lifts! It's like a listed building, ok to renovate but no construction allowed. Parking is available in a nearby underground carpark which you'll have to pay the daily rate but not to the hotel.

The property is perfectly located near the historic town, walking distance to the bus station and monuments. Although it is not included in the description there is a lift to the 0 and 1 floor so the walk up and downstairs is minimized. The cold buffet breakfast is plentiful and varied with yogurt available as protein.

Getting into and out of the bathtub can be a challenge. But the reward is great hot water from a strong shower. Shower toiletries do not include separate shampoo or conditioner. The towels are slightly smaller than other properties but are really absorbing.

The location is perfect for exploring the old town Guimaraes. Within 5 minutes walk you right in the center. The hotel is nicely decorated inside and staff is super friendly. What I was pleasantly surprised about was the great Wi-Fi coverage, they had a separate network for each floor, luckily with the same password.

The room could have been slightly bigger, but it was ok. Also noises from other rooms, people taking shower, flushing toilets, could be heard inside the room. So sound insulation could be definitely improved.

We had a lovely room on the first floor. At check in, the receptionist changed the room so that we did not have to carry our luggage up more floors -the hotel does not have a lift. Staff were helpful with explanation of parking arrangements and with storage of bags whilst we went sight seeing. Car parking is great value. The hotel is in a great location, a short walk to the old town and to an excellent restaurant, which we had booked. There was a simple continental breakfast.

The location, the setting, the price, all these are hard to beat. You're basically in the center of the city, or very close to it, for a value that is hard to beat. I highly recommend the stay there. The staff was kind and very helpful.

Possibly the steep stairs for older people like my mother, but to be honest, it's part of the charm of the building. Again, for the price, it's hard to complain.

The Hotel Mestre de Avis was a good choice for staying in the lovely city of Guimarães. It located near the historic city center and has the option of pre-paid parking in a large underground municipal parking facility. The buffet breakfast was good and the servers were friendly and explained how to use the coffee machine. The hotel has one short term parking space just across the street from the lobby door that was convenient for checking-in and dropping luggage before going to the underground parking. From the hotel, it is an easy walk into the old town with its castle, multiple squares, parks, fountains, university, and many restaurants with outside dining. We also enjoyed taking the aerial gondola up to the top of the main city park with its city views, and interesting walks between and around its many enormous rock formations.

It took us awhile to find the entrance to the underground parking lot. It would be helpful if the hotel would make up a small simple map to hand out at check-in.

The location was amazing and the rooms were super comfortable! The breakfast was good, with a few bread options, fruits and coffee, tea, juice etc. Super friendly staff!

The hotel room was nice, we also had a mini balcony. The bathroom was better than I expected, with a mirror for makeup and a hair dryer. A small walk-in closet - we didn't use it as we stayed only 1 night but it was quite spacious. Also we came to the hotel quite early and the lady on the reception said she would keep an eye on our luggage which was nice

The breakfast was very poor. We stayed in a different hotel the night before, also a 2 star hotel, and the breakfast was much better there. A bigger selection of juices (at least 5), bakery stuff, different hams, cheeses etc. This hotel had only 1 juice and like no bakery items, only a croissant and some tiny bites. The selection could be much better

Standard room is not like photos- small (cant fit armchair) plain (no rug) and dark (at back of building) - but thats why it is less expensive. Bed comfortable. There is a service elevator to first floor for disabled guests but you have to ask as it is usually full of laundry baskets- opens in front of room 104. Cheap bakeries nearby for breakfast.

Can hear everything from room above including guest using toilet at night. No fridge but probably wouldnt fit in small room anyway. No tea/coffee makings.
