Spacious and fully equipped flat. Quiet neighbourhood, beautiful view of Pena Palace. Plenty of parking on the street. The house is at the end of a road with no exit therefore it is quiet. There are several flats in the house and there is a caravan. Paula and Mario are very nice hosts and their signature dish is breakfast. It is prepared by them using local produce, looks beautiful and is very tasty. We had pre-purchased tickets for the 9.30am tour of Pena Palace and the hosts agreed to prepare breakfast for us at 8am (normally it is from 8.30am) - many thanks for this! Mario showed us where to park in Sintra and indeed this was a good recommendation. It's a pity we were only there for 1 night, but if there's only a chance we'd love to return.

Mario is an amazing host. He told us of some of the history of Portugal, showed us his garden, drove us in to Sintra and picked us up. Took us to a recommended restaurant and picked us up when we called , made recommendations for places to visit etc., etc.. Thank you so much for your hospitality, Mario ! Paula and Anna are very nice, but we did not have a chance to speak with them very much. We had a nice view of the Palace & Castle from our large suite .The house is in a quiet area with free parking right at the door. There is a large shared kitchen available. It is just a 10 minute drive to Sintra centro.

Maybe a little far from town for some people. We usually stay near the centre of towns, cities we visit, but of course then there are issues with parking, traffic, noise etc.

The breakfast was outstanding, one of the best I have had anywhere before. The owners Mário and Paula were superb. Mario booked restaurants for dinner then took us to them and upgraded our room with no extra charge. We booked for 3 nights at the start of our trip but it was so good we booked an extra night at the end of the trip. We had booked an early morning flight so no hotel that night but Mário let us stay in the room until the evening which meant we had more time to enjoy the final day. Again there was no extra charge for this.

Nothing at all

We loved the hospitality and the space. Mario and Paula were exceptional hosts and really went the extra mile to make us feel welcome. The conversation was really interesting and we learned a lot about the local area and history. The view from our room of Sintra was stunning, and we loved the location. It was really nice to be close to Sintra but we appreciated the quiet area out of the hustle and bustle. The beds were so comfortable and the room warm too. Would highly recommend- we didn't get a chance to have breakfast but it looked fantastic, all organic. For next time we stay! Muito obrigada

I read the reviews and can fully concur with all the best parts of them. We, my wife and I, felt so lucky to have found this haven of loveliness. Very kind, warm, friendly and hospitable hosts in their beautiful home, they could not have been more welcoming and yet discreet. Pretty much every part of the very varied and interesting breakfast was home made, just a shame I couldn't manage every delicious crumb. Where else have you ever had a breakfast salad that contained St Theresa rose petals? No, me neither. Sintra is lovely and needs more exploring as we had only 2 days. Next time we won't bother looking elsewhere for accommodation, we'll just hope that all the other regularly returning guests don't beat us to It. Thank you so much Mario and Paula, I've never been so happy to write a review.

Only that we couldn't stay longer.

The hosts Mario and Paola are amazing. The welcomed us with a cold drink. Mario was proud to show us his garden where he grows some of the vegetables used for the breakfasts. The breakfasts are simply amazing and we enjoyed spending over an hour going through them while exchanging with Mario and Paola about their recipe and Portuguese culture in general. We spent 2 nights there. Paola and Mario made reservations both nights for us to nearby restaurants they had recommended, both were amazing recommendations. Mario even gave us a ride to and from the furthest restaurant such that we could enjoy a good drink with tour meals. Paola also did miracles to save the dress of my daughter which had been stained. Traveling for me has become more and more an experience about meeting local people and getting to know them. I am glad we chose to stay at Galo Preto and hope everyone has a similar experience as we did.

This place is exceptional. After staying in old and ancient properties throughout Portugal, it was wonderful to stay in a newer build. Almost everything exceeded our expectations. The spacious master suite was so well designed and laid out. The hosts were the best hosts I've ever encountered. They went above and beyond what others do in every aspect of the stay. The house was very clean. Access was easy. Parking very easy. Loved the location of being just outside the old town of Sintra. And the breakfast: it is a MUST. Very likely the best breakfast I've ever had. I love that the hosts have a substantial garden including avocado and pomegranate trees, and almost everything in the multi-course breakfast was from their garden. They were up very early to make sure everything was freshly prepared and baked. Just outstanding.

What didn't I like? That I had to leave.

We liked it very much in Galo Preto. We stayed there for two nights. The place is a bit outside of Sintra but quite easy to reach by car or Uber. The owners are very friendly and helpful with many great tips and advices for the area. The owner even took us with this electric car to Pena palace. A real highlight is the breakfast. It is served as a three course menu (salad with green and fruits from the garden; toast with egg; desert). Everything is homemade, freshly prepared and very beautifully arranged. Thank you very much for running this place with so much enthusiasm.

Our room was a bit smaller as expected but other than that, just perfect.

The hosts were just incredible, The pictures don’t do justice to the rooms - they were so nice & of good size, The breakfast was made with so much love, it felt like home and we are pure vegetarians, The hosts practice yoga & meditation and it shows as they are so loving and calm. There is also a beautiful meditation center & Buddhist temple about 15 min walk away, resonates the area. The place felt so positive we didn’t feel like leaving!

Nothing really, it was outstanding & would love to return.

This is a place that is most suitable if you have a car or motorbike as it is not central. It is in a new urbanization. (So if you're looking for an old villa this is not for you). Our room had a great view of the mountain and we could see Sintra castle. The room is well-kitted out with a kettle, microwave, and fridge. The bathroom was new and fresh. The towels were nice a fluffy. We didn't take breakfast. But they can cater for different needs. It's about a 10-15 minute drive to the coast where there are a number of restaurants. And it's also about a 15-minute drive to Sintra. As we had the room at the top it was very private and homely.

Everything was great about the place. If you are looking for the old villa life this is not for you.
