2nd part of my trip to Sommarøy - this time in the suite. The 2nd floor suite is beautiful, very comfortable with a spectacular view. Once again, everything is perfect and very clean - house keeping staff are amazing, very well organised. All staff in the whole hotel are wonderful - the reception team are very kind and welcoming. Transport from Tromsø was amazing as always... great driver (the one who does photography/wood work) he's such a kind person and always have really interesting conversations with him on the journey to/from Sommarøy. The hotel and grounds are all well maintained, the beaches are stunning and getting to see the Northern Lights in such a magical location is incredibly special. Loved my time on Sommarøy and at this wonderful hotel - can't wait to come back again :)) Thank you to all the hard working staff for making my stay so amazing!!

I recently stayed at the Sommarøy Arctic Hotel for a special occasion - my engagement - and I want to share my experience to help future guests make an informed decision. I initially booked a cabin on the water with a balcony through Booking.com. From the photos and description, I expected a private, single-level cabin with hotel amenities, but upon arrival, I was disappointed to find it was actually a two-story setup, meaning we could hear tenants walking above us. Additionally, it was a self-contained unit with no coffee or tea station, and we were expected to remove our own rubbish - something not made clear at check-in. It was not what I had envisioned based on the listing. That said, the hotel quickly turned things around. Although they were fully booked, the reception staff found us a room in the main hotel building due to a last-minute cancellation and moved us there at no extra cost, even including complimentary breakfast each day. This new room was modern, warm, and spacious, with a great double shower - a huge improvement from what we had originally booked. From then on, everything was fantastic. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, and they went above and beyond to make our stay special. I had informed them about my engagement plans weeks in advance, but since it was New Year’s Eve with limited staff, they couldn’t promise anything. However, when we returned to the hotel after the proposal, we walked into our room to find a beautiful bouquet of flowers and chocolates waiting for us - a thoughtful and unexpected gesture that made the moment even more memorable. The breakfast buffet had everything you’d want, including local delicacies, and the bar lounge was a great place to relax. While I didn’t use it, there’s also a spa and sauna available.

This is really a secluded location, very ideal for the seaview and northern lights. We managed to catch the northern lights here so this made the long journey to Sommarøy worth it. The bed and blanket is really very warm for the winter. We enjoyed our personal sauna too.

The receptionist could have been more welcoming and more informative. They just passed us our keys, gave some directions to our accomodation and that's it. Could have given us more towels if there's no house keeping and improve on the bathroom amenities. Kitchen was missing a chopping board. It would be even more perfect if they also provide washing machine and dryer.

Reception very friendly and the hotel had a nice vibe overall, with great communal areas and a happy buzz amongst hotel guests. We sat and played boardgames the one evening we weren't aurora hunting, which was very enjoyable. No problems with parking. Room was spacious with very comfy beds and a great shower. Fantastic breakfast selection in a very nice dining area. We ate at the hotel both evenings too. Hotel has a limited menu for a longer stay and there's not much choice in the vicinity but our meals were fine - fish the first night and a burger the next. We had a hire car and so explored the islands around Sommaroy by car, including seeing the aurora on our last night which were incredible - very lucky indeed. Stunning scenery all around.

Door to our room (227) didn't shut very well; the seal was out of place and so it kept popping open. Also you couldn't turn the light off on the balcony which was disturbing overnight. Rooms should really have their own safe and fridge. More towels should be issued, particularly a bathmat. Coffee from the machine at breakfast wasn't very nice and no normal tea available at the communal tea points as they'd run out. Scrambled eggs too runny for me.

Amazing location. The sea houses are exceptional! The view, the space, the facilities. The private sauna was a delightful surprise!

The staff and customer care in general. They seemed to have a condescending attitude and did not make any effort to be helpful or make us feel welcome or comfortable. The sea house, although gorgeous, did not have basic things such as shower gel and shampoo, something that one would expect at a hotel. The lock was very fiddly and took us several attempts to both lock and unlock. Their requirement that we clear out all the bins was also very uncharacteristic of a hotel. The food at the restaurant was quite average and very expensive at that.

If you're going to be in a place where the weather may not always be great, the 3 bdrm Sea Cabin apartment with all its windows to bring the outside in is the place to be. It snowed and sleeted, but with so many big windows, we were perfectly content to stay inside and admire the spectacular views in front of us. From our windows, we could see the northern lights and we would run outside to get a better look. It's a good idea to bring plenty of provisions with you if you're coming from Tromso. There is a small grocery store a 10 min drive away, but it may not have your favorite brands. While the restaurant is good, it is pricey as most restaurants in Norway. Be sure to reserve the jacuzzi. That was a real treat. Would definitely recommend this place. We felt spoiled.

No hair dryer, but no big deal. No luggage racks or place to set our suitcases but not a deal breaker. No bathrobes or large towels for getting out of the jacuzzi in freezing weather.. Shower overflowed as the drain must have been stopped up and hopefully after reporting it, it was remedied. Would love fewer outdoor lights. Too much light pollution, not just here at this hotel. We had to ask the guest at the cabin next door to please turn off all her lights so we could get a better view of the Northern Lights.

My trip to Sommarøy was split between two separate reservations - so two separate reviews :) This is my 2nd time at this wonderful hotel... enjoyed every second of my stay!! My room on the 3rd floor was beautiful - perfect size, clean, comfortable, loved the balcony and the amazing view. The whole hotel is very clean, tidy and well organised. The breakfast was excellent - great choice and very relaxed. All staff are super kind and very helpful. It's a beautiful location and always feels like such a special place to visit.

The hotel staff were helpful. Coffee and tea were available all day so we water. The bar had basic cocktails, beer, and wine along with fancy coffee drinks. The dining room offered three meals. The conference area had great views of the beach. I stayed in the hotel for one night and the room was sound proof which was great for late night work meetings (on Los Angeles time). I spent the rest of the week in a sea house that got rocked by the wind but was warm. You could see the northern lights with your phone if you changed the settings so most of our group got iPhone shots.

The sea house rooms were rather small especially to hold luggage and two people.

1. The location is easily accessible (but far! 1.5 hours scenic ride from Tromso) by public transport bus 420. Need to check the bus schedule. 2. Staff have been very helpful and kind providing information I need. I emailed them and they made effort to reply to all my questions in kind and friendly manner. (Really appreciate Matilde, Anna, Ingrid and Marie) 3. Hotel surrounding is very pretty and serene. When you are lucky, you can see aurora from the hotel.

The food choices in restaurant for lunch and dinner are very limited. We waited for 35 minutes for our burger but I appreciate the waiter remembered our orders and explained that the kitchen is busy.

The number of public buses available was quite limited but still it was easy to access. I don’t drive a car by myself so it was helpful. Very modern and clean hotel, price is reasonable. Breakfast was so tasty! I’d love to come back here!

The staff and their website didn’t really provide necessary information. We didn’t know we needed to make a reservation to sit at the restaurant, we even didn’t know there’s complementary tea and coffee available next to the reception and we didn’t know the breakfast time. The room was great but bit noisy.
