Misty Waves Boutique Hotel

As a blind traveller I have to compliment the staff, you were brilliant!! Never did I feel like a blind person staying at Misty Waves. To reception: Thank you for naturally offering me your arm on arrival. Thank you for giving me a tour of the room, where everything was and the small changes to make my stay comphortable. ( like separating brown and white sugar and informing me what teas were avaliable in the room, getting the hairdryer out and put it infront of the mirror and making sure I knew what side hot and cold was on the shower and bath taps) Thank you offering to take me to the restaurant and arrange for a staff member to collect me for breakfast without having to ask. Thank you for speaking to me in a normal way. To the Restaurant staff: You made sure I blend in with other guests without drawing any attention to the blind person in the room. Thank you for speaking to me in n normal way. Thank you for not handing me a menu but informing me - " what's on the menu tonight." Thank you for telling me when my plate was hot and to take care. Thank you for telling me where's what on my plate. Thank you for filling my wine and water without having to ask. Breakfast: You would never know how much I appreciated having a seamless buffet breakfast. Thank you!! Most of all thank you to all the staff for your consistent service, friendliness and attention to detail.

The balcony could be assessable by other guests, not a big deal but just made us a bit extra vigilant.

Fantastic hotel, mixes modern facia with the old, beautifully done, the owners, very hands on and approachable, the staff were very friendly and helpful, and the room, 106, was superb, and position A1. Breakfast included, in the Heritage restaurant, was great, and the staff there were also very good. Overall if I could have given them a score of 20 instead of 10, I would, as it was a fantastic experience, we love Hermanus, been there many times and would fully recommend a stay in Misty Waves

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, especially Siya at the front desk. The hotel is beautiful and right next to the ocean, it was unfortunate that I visited out of whale season, but I'm pretty certain that you can watch the whales from the comfort of the hotel or just walk across the road. The area is very safe, so you can even take a stroll to the local stores. It felt like a home away from home, the room I stayed in was very spacious, with beautiful decor and views. They have the most charming restaurant which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner - you can see the ocean from the restaurant as well. There are many facilities onsite, including a lounge, reading area and cinema where you can request movies and sit back with popcorn for as long as you like. They also offer activities out of the hotel like tours. All in all, a very gorgeous family run hotel with the most efficient staff, in the most beautiful location.

Sea view room is wonderful. The staff, and especialy jason at reception was cery accomodating.

This is a beautiful hotel and our room was exquisite, overlooking the 'Heritage Restaurant', the pool, and the sea beyond. The bed was huge and comfortable. There were two pools: a quiet shaded 'lounge' pool and a larger, unshaded pool with covered seating nearby where drinks are served. We also sampled the whirlpool bath in our room. :) The staff were helpful, chatty, friendly, informative, and resourceful when we had minor problems. The breakfast, served in the 'Heritage Restaurant' was good. The safe worked and the fridge and lighting were powered by the hotel's generators/inverters when the inevitable 'loadshedding' occurred. What a pain in the ass 'loadshedding' must be for the people of South Africa!! Anyway, the hotel was properly equipped to handle it. Parking was good, certainly secure, and mostly under cover from the sun.

The light above the mirror in the bathroom did not work. There was another light in the bathroom close to the shower and WC. Consequently the bathroom was really dark, especially in the place where you really need strong light - above the basins (two) and mirror. We were informed it was an emergency light but this seemed nonsensical. The hotel then provided us with two powerful torches with which to light the bathroom - this did the job adequately but seemed like a peculiar solution.

The fact that we did not stay longer.

Our stay at Misty Waves Boutique Hotel was simply wonderful. The standout feature was undoubtedly the exceptionally friendly staff. From check-in to check-out, their warm hospitality made us feel at home. I would highly recommend this property (not the onsite restaurant) for guests who value a welcoming atmosphere and exceptional service.

Problems arose in the restaurant regarding the breakfast service. The female chef has to be the rudest and most combative person in all of the Southern Hemisphere. Her rude and combative behavior left a lasting negative impression, leading us to choose not to stay and dine at the restaurant. We definitely would not return to the property because of the onsite restaurant experience

This really is the most fabulous hotel with huge, well equipped and tastefully decorated rooms. Large bathroom with excellent shower pressure. Good quality toiletries too ! Super quality bed linen on a very comfortable mattress. The large balcony afforded a great view of the bay. Breakfast very tasty. Ate at the Heritage Restaurant attached to the hotel where the menu, although not big, was fantastic. Staff exceptional pleasant and helpful. Would recommend this hotel and will return next year ......thank you Misty awaves

Leaving !

Many tourists have Whale-spotting in mind when coming to Hermanus. So this hotel where main building rooms have a direct uninterrupted view of the sea is perfect. Our room 500, was the only one I could see without a balcony, yet it was perfect as it rained with strong winds for most of the two days we were there - and yes we did see Southern Right Wales through the window. The room was giant. At one end an open plan bathroom, in the middle the bedroom and storage and at the front seating and an occasional table. The hotel is rather ‘quirky’ with its own cinema, a shared lounge room (with free sherry) and funny routes to get around inside. But charming nevertheless. The Heritage on site restaurant provides an excellent breakfast and we ate there in the evenings too. If you are planning to do this I recommend booking first as the Chef/owner looked rather shocked when we just turned up unannounced the first night.
