Holmeshead Farm B&B is a really good bed and breakfast – it is spotlessly clean, very comfortable and the full English breakfast is both generous and delicious (Ed’s home-made sausages are amazing!) Just what is needed before a day’s walking the fells. Judith is a lovely host, very helpful with great suggestions about dining out and walking etc, yet she also leaves you to enjoy the peace and quiet too – perfect! The gardens are a beautiful quiet place to sit out and take in the views, and they are a haven for wildlife – lots of bird life, and even four spotted flycatchers – a special treat indeed for bird lovers. This is a lovely quiet place to stay, yet so near to several major locations such as Hawkshead and Ambleside, and it’s a brilliant location for anyone that likes walking – so many of the major fell walking areas are very short drives away. We’ll be booking again.

The breakfast was good with decent bacon and homemade sausages. Judith was a wonderful host and even dried our walking boots out. The location was lovely and it was a shame we couldn't use the garden because of the rainy weather during our stay. The property had character and the bed was clean and comfortable. There was fresh milk and cold water available in a fridge downstairs. Full marks to Judith for doing all she could to make our stay comfortable. We would love to have stayed longer.

There isn't much to criticise; the only thing possible to say is that with a house of this character with rooms close together, noise could travel from room to room easily. However, all guests were respectful of this when we were there.

We really enjoyed our stay. It was totally relaxing and away from the touristy parts of the lakes. Judith and Ed were most welcoming and the gift of a bottle of wine was most welcome as it was something we had forgotten to bring. The grounds are lovely with the garden swing and the comfortable shelter to enjoy in the unpredictable weather. We were also given advice on the restaurants nearby and advised on the necessity to book.

There was nothing we didn’t like. Our room was spacious; our beds very comfortable with exquisite, heavy covers. We loved the windows which we could open to enjoy the air and the view over the surrounding fields. There were ample towels and hot water in the shower. I realise that perhaps all this should be in the previous answer but I shall continue to add how much we appreciated the welcoming fire in the lounge when we returned from dinner on a very wet evening.

The location is wonderful: very peaceful and beautiful with good views and a lovely garden with benches and a summer house available. Comfy bed and good facilities generally. Good breakfast including fruit as we requested. A really beautiful (18th C?) house and grounds.

I have mobility problems and there were a number of stairs (which I knew about in advance) but these had bannister rails on both sides so were manageable.

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Holmeshead Farm. Judy and her husband were so welcoming, and the accommodation was so cosy and relaxing. The breakfast was absolutely delicious. We were up for the weekend taking part in a Swim course in Ambleside and we needed an early start which Judith was very accommodating, and she also loaned us towels for the lake as we had forgotten. It was such a lovely weekend stay, and we thoroughly recommend.

The location was very peaceful, and the room was beautiful. Beds were very comfortable. Shower was great and bathroom was lovely and big so two people could be in there at the same time.

The directions took us some way off the actual property. Google didn't like the co-ordinates but we called ahead and they guided us in.....

The view from our room of the garden, farm adjacent to the property, and the hills was lovely. The owners were friendly, helpful in providing restaurant/pub suggestions and options, and accommodated our request for an earlier than normal breakfast the morning we left.

if you must ‘work’ while on holiday, keep in mind the WiFi is slow.

Extremely friendly hosts, lovely rural location, fabulous shower, really comfy bed and covers, lovely lounge to use with TV and really comfy chairs and open fire. Beautifully cooked breakfast, tasty. Lovely views. Very quiet. Horses and some gorgeous dogs, no barking. Saw wildlife, deer, badgers, foxes, cormorants etc.

Slightly hard to find, especially in the dark, a warning might have been nice but very doable with a bit of thought. Slightly limited selection for breakfast but guess difficult with rural location

The accommodation was wonderful. The house was charming and presented to a very high standard. We loved the option of relaxing in the guest lounge and having the opportunity to enjoy a wood fire. Breakfasts were superb with great options.

Our stay was perfect. We had a last minute change and needed to take our dog with us. Judy and Eddie were very accommodating and understanding. The garden was perfect and our dog loved it. The breakfast was lovely. Home made sausages are fantastic.
