There is so much to see in the hotel itself. A fantastic building with architectural oddities all over the place. Staff were tremendous and the rooms were very well presented with a nice mix of traditional and modern decor. I'd imagine the garden would be lovely on a sunny evening (which we didnt get..) Breakfast was good and the staff serving it was happy to deal with any requests.

Obviously because of the age of the building some of the doorways are very low so watch your head if you are relatively tall! It kind of adds to the charm though. The only (really small) downside was the water pressure seemed a little bit low. I planned to get a bath (Very nice bathtubs by the way) but gave up and got a shower as it was taking ages to fill. Not a huge deal though, far from it.

The hotel was ideally located and the room very comfortable with all facilities you would need. The room was located away from the main house which made it extremely quite. There was a god selection of evening meal and this was freshly coked and wholesome. Breakfast was very good, and a fair choice was available. Fresh fruit was available as a starter along with cereal. An enjoyable experience.

There where flashing lights in the bathroom that no one could tell me how to stop. The remote control in the room did not appear to be working

My room was great, just across the courtyard from the main building. The bed was comfortable & the shower over the bath was much better than i first expected. There was plenty of wardrobe space. Nice selection of teas/coffee & biscuits. The breakfasts in the restaurant in the main building were delish! The location was perfect for my trip to Maesteg & into Bridgend for a gig. Parking is ample. Staff were very warm & friendly. Would absolutely stay again.

The bathroom looked a little tired but overall the room was great

This is my second visit to the Great house over the past few months. Last time I was in the last of the outdoor rooms (It might have been the courtroom room) this time is was next door (the "Lleft" room). The previous room was exposed brick and unimposing colours. This one had a light system in the ceilings and walls - so you could change the colour (I ended up leaving them on white). Liked the bar across the courtyard, so popped in for some wine each evening, in the summer it's great sitting outside, but not in the winter. I only tried a dessert one might (frangipan) it was a different take on the dessert, so well done, but not quite to my taste (I'm a fan of simpler version), but I can't mark them down for my personal preference on that. While this is outside of Bridgend (and my end destination, Porthcawl), there is a helpful bus stop, on the near side of the road heading to Porthcawl (and elsewhere) and on the far side of the road over to Bridgend. There is also a local shop over the road. The room was quiet (early on on the evening I could hear the neighbours, but it was very quiet later on, neither the church or road had any impact, so a good night's sleep, for a light sleeper).

The nearby church could have been a pain, it range on the hour and a couple of strikes on the half hour, but it didn't keep me awake (I'm a light sleeper)- equally the rooms are set back from the road, with a high wall, so I didn't hear anything from the road. In the snazzy redecoration of the room, they seem to have missed the sliding cupboard, which looks to still have the carpet from the original room on the floor (opps).

I read mixed reviews but I can’t really see why The building is old with the quirky character you would expect from an historic building However the room I stayed in was very modern and extremely well done The small bathroom was well designed with a super shower which was very big instant hot water - not easy in an old place The radiators were excellent and my room was cozy We had both dinner and breakfast in Leicesters the on site restaurant The food was very good and the staff friendly and helpful I stay in a lot of hotels for business Many of them are corporate so it was fun to stay here where it felt very personal I would definitely stay here again

Easy parking and quiet location. Evening meal - the food was absolutely stunning, one of the best meals I have had in a long time. Talented chef / kitchen staff for sure. Such a refreshing change to my weekly hotel stays. Nice restaurant area and cosy little pub part too Staff nice, young man in the afternoon was particularly professional and friendly. pillows and mattress comfortable

plastic chairs in room terribly uncomfortable. Shower didn't work at all. The breakfast was a little underwhelming. drinks dear.

Loved the decor of the room. Breakfast was excellent. We will go again, BUT, there were a few issues: the shower hardly worked; the sink needed unblocking; there was no hot water; the TV didn’t work (even after an employee tried working on it); there was no bathtub - but that was probably my fault for not specifying that need. However, as I’ve stated above… we loved the place, and next time, we’ll definitely eat in the restaurant (from where the breakfast came).

Lovely hotel. Not the first time I have stayed. Always clean and a nice atmosphere.

Very disappointed with our meal in the restaurant last night. The service was not attentive and very very slow. We were told that they were sorry for the delay but they were very busy. There were 5 tables occupied in the restaurant with 2 people in each table which was a total of 10 people. The food was fantastic but the service was awful. Restaurant service has always been great on previous stays.

Ellie (breakfast manager) was very pleasant and great with customers. Cooked breakfast was the best I had in a B&B. Eggs perfecto!!

25th Aug approx midnight...i was woken up by a lot a lof commotion in the car park. Car alarms going off, people talking loudly and the sound of a ladder being put upto a window next to my room.noise continued onto approx 1.30am...i did make Ellie aware, who apologised....she was aware of the disturbance. We were there 3 nights and our room wasnt cleaned or replenished, even though we left "clean my room" notice on door handle. Toilet seat wobbly Brought my own toilet roll in.

I had booked, I thought, just a normal bedroom, but this was an apartment. Downstairs was a lounge and kitchen, upstairs a bedroom and bathroom. For incidentals there is a corner shop and post office over the road. If you want a variety of bars there is a pub next door.

I was in the garden room, rather than in the main building, so I wasn't expecting a kitchen (so a bonus) but the freezer section door was broken. I mentioned to the staff so hopefully they will sort that. It was still fine for making ice, just a bit frozen up. There is a church opposite (the bells ring every 15 minutes), as a light sleeper that would have been a concern but the windows are double glazed (it was a bit of a pain until I found the window I'd not shut properly). So if you are a light sleeper it is fine once you've sorted all of the windows. While the space was all a bonus, it did need a bit of TLC, some chipped sections of paint, the bath side panel was a bit past it etc; but against the surprise lounge and kitchen I think it was still a winner.
