Everything..very quirky..americans would go crazy for it I imagine..if Americans ever visit porthcawl...my room was the Paris room and it was perfect other than it was only a bath in there and I'm a shower kinda gal...staff were fabulous and couldn't be more helpful...on arrival there were welshcakes and wine.thankyou very much..the Continental breakfast in the rooms fridge was gorgeous...fresh fruit.cheese..croissants..lush..and there were a pair of reading glasses in each room incase you forgot to pack your own...oh and there were brollies in the porch for us to borrow. And we did just that as it rained the day were there.

If you aren't very mobile I wouldn't recommend.there are a fair few stairs to climb and they are quite steep ..and narrow the higher you go...and downstairs there is a slight hum of cat pee....or it might have been the aged furniture....

We were recommended Olivia House by our daughter and son-in-Law as somewhere I would love, They having stayed there recently themselves. They were right. The house has been furnished as it would have been when it was built with heavy period furniture, walls covered in picures and photos and curiousities displayed on every spare space. As an owner of period house I really appreciate what the owners of Olivia House have done but it is very 'marmite' you will love or hate it. if you are a minimalist, loving clean lines and modern funishings Olivia House is probably not the place for you. Ikea it most definitel is not! The bedrooms are all different sizes and differently themed. We had Kings Room with a chandelier in the shape of a medieval crown and other items with a nod to royalty. Our room had a magnificent roll top bath set in the bedroom itself something that would not have been uncommon in middle and upper class houses of this period. There were radiators in every room but no air conditioning (not something much needed in Wales or any part of the UK for that matter.) There was however an ultra modern fan supplied. There was no cooked breakfast available at Olivia House but each room came with a breakfast basket with porrage, yoghurt, fruit and pastries. There was a fridge to store it. Tea and coffee is in the room with biscuits, and chocolates. There is an ample self-serve refill station on each landing. In the lounge there is free wine, Welsh cakes and chocolates Outside Olivia House there is plenty of free on road parking - a rarity in any UK town these days and it is only 3 minutes walk to the promanade. There are plenty of restuarants, pubs etc with many welcoming dogs. The beach boasts miles of golden sand and all the usual seaside attractions but be aware that they are seasonal and may not be open. Of our stay in Olivia House there is only one thing I would change. I would love to have met the owners.

Not meeting the owners/managers of the property.

Went to porthcawl to see an elvis tribute and found the Quirkiest lil place ever..but fabulous.i had the French room and it was gorgeous...really comfy bed..id have preferred a shower to a bath if I'm honest.but it wasn't the end of the world. The staff were absolutely brilliant.very helpful..what I loved more than anything was all the lil extras..dressing gowns.fabulous continental breakfast in a fridge in the room..bottled water..a pair of reading glasses just incase you had forgotten yours..chocolates...and glass of wine and welshcakes as a welcome...oh and brollies and walking sticks if you needed to borrow them...bloody marvellous..would 100% stay there again

Not really a didn't like..but I've got a rubbish knee and the stairs are very steep..if you have any mobility issues it wouldn't be great..

Our stay was a short-notice to visit Porthcawl as a 'surprise' for our niece and her husband and their young children who were spending the week at Trecco. As many people have said Annette provided an unforgettable and quirky experience which is homely, comfortable and very clean. It was a voyage of discovery as wherever we went we discovered something new that we'd missed before! We certainly agree with previous guests that you are definitely worth the rating of 'Excellent' and have also passed on OH details to family and friends.

Although our stay was very enjoyable and different, we did find the upper stairs and accumulation of so many floor-based exhibits challenging as we are both 77 and my wife is recovering from a severe femur break which needed a hip joint replacement which is still painful and taking a long time to repair, plus I have heart problems and pacemaker and so upper stairs were difficult for us both and my wife also had to extremely careful when moving around the room. Our fault really as we didn't discuss this with Annette before hand. A small-print note to this effect on ther booking info to forewarn other potential bookers who may have similar problems. Please don't feel that this is a complaint though - as I have already said we thoroughly enjoyed our experience at OH.

OH is just beautiful, friendly, warm, cosy with a gorgeous lived in and cared for feeling. Lots and lots to look at and admire. Furniture and artwork is beautiful. Quiet? Oh my word we were not expecting how quiet it actually was. Being near the Esplanade on a Friday night we thought we would hear plenty, but no, silence. And the bed, may word dont get me started on the bed. So so comfortable

The only negative was the shower. Far too small i am afraid to say. A beautiful lovely large room with the tiniest of showers. Ok so i am a big guy, but my word even the slenderest of people would have issues. I genuinely couldn't fit in it. which in turn did give my wife fits of uncontrollable laughter watching me trying to negotiate it.......laughter, always a good thing that! : ) But to compensate there is a lovely deep free standing bath in the neighbouring room

Whole house was amazing, really interesting decor and so so spotlessly clean. Very friendly staff/owners. I mentioned it was my mum's 90th birthday and we were visiting the area to celebrate it with her twin brother who lives locally and they said I should've told them and they would've done something special in our room. Instead my mum was given a gift as we left. Great continental breakfast in our room and bowls of sweets/chocolate in the lounge and hallway and was offered a glass of wine or water when we arrived. A very enjoyable experience. Definitely would recommend a stay, especially if you want something a bit different. And would definitely stay again!

Room was on the top floor so had a sea view and the bed was very, very comfortable - had perfect sleep. Fridge in the room with items for the continental breakfast plus croissants etc in a covered cake stand. We were asked if we would like fresh milk which was a bonus and preferable to the long life milk with the tea bags etc. We were lucky to find parking in the street when we arrived and the car remained there for the 3 night stay. Olivia House isn't corporate and very unique.

We didn't have the continental breakfast as apart from having breakfast in bed there wasn't space in the room. It's possible to use the dining room downstairs which is a bit of a faff when on the top floor and the crockery supplied is of a high standard so wouldn't want to drop anything going downstairs.

We were greeted straight away with a smile. Made to feel really welcome. We booked the balcony room we were very happy. The space was fantastic such a quirky room had something to look at every turn. Bed so comfy. The bath was amazing. Everything you needed or wanted was there. Complimentary breakfast was very good . We stayed here as we had tickets to see Sarah millican in the palladium. We were so close i even nipped back to my room to use the toilet in the interval 😀 it was quicker than queuing at the venue . Would definitely return. Thank you Tracey and Jeff .

Only down side for me was the lighting. There were lots of lamps but I couldnt see any ceiling lights but did not spoil my stay.

Great location ,super comfy large bed .Nice little quirky finishing touches .Good breakfast selection in the room.

Personally would of preferred a small table and chairs in the room to eat breakfast ,giving a little more space .Than having a bath at the bottom of the bed [We are 61 and 70 so i guess a younger couple would find the bath at the end of bed romantic . Never saw anyone on our two night stay ,Although to be fair Annette left her number to call at any time

Beautiful quirky house and room with lots of lovely touches. Welsh cakes and wine on arrival. The bed was really comfy. I had an excellent night's sleep. The continental breakfast was a god send as I had a busy day planned, and it saved me needing to find a cafe. The fridge was a welcome addition to the room with fruit, yoghurt and orange juice included . Great communication from the owner and a really peaceful stay. I didn't hear anyone else in the property.
