Rooms and staff excellent.

Having rang the hotel asking if breakfast was available. I was told it was and I would be able to order when checking in, I was disappointed to learn in fact, breakfast was not to be served on a Monday.

Rooms basic, but they work, the stand out thing for this place is the amazing staff. Did not have breakfast but felt it was overpriced as there is a Weatherspoon around the corner and we had 2 meals with a drink for same price. Lovely bars in area. The building is amazing very atmospheric and full of history, would stay again. There is an Asda nearby and an excellent Chinese.

Price of the breakfast £12 per person cheaper at Weatherspoons by half. Also need to take an extension if you take along your laptops. I do not know what else to say all of it was really good to be fair. The car park was difficult to get into despite there being plenty of room, perhaps move the bin?

Staff were excellent - Will was really friendly and helpful! Great value for money and a good location as we were heading out to Alton Towers the next day. Property has quite a bit of history too!

It was great value for money, which means it's a bit tired in places. But don't let that put you off. If you are after a good night's sleep, good location and friendly staff, and don't mind that it's a bit frayed around the edges, I would recommend.

Stayed for a week on business and enjoyed myself far more than if I'd gone to the premier Inn. Staff are friendly and accommodating and there's always someone interesting to talk to at the bar. Yes the furnature is worn and the floorboards creak but it felt homely. Who knows, maybe one day they'll open up the secret tunnels under the hotel and start ghost tours.

Usual loose fixtures and bulbs blown that's typical of most hotels. I swear that I woke up in the middle of the night and the four poster bed was creaking in time with my heart beat! Really needs it's screws tightening.

Full of character. Nice little beer garden at the back. The breakfast was freshly cooked and delicious. The staff were lovely and made me and my nephew very welcome.

The rooms need updated; they are very dated. The shower also had a large step up into it so it may be a challenge for people with restricted mobility however the building is very old and it may not be possible to avoid the step up. The room was comfortable though. It would be nice if breakfast was included in the price of the room and not extra.

The room was super cute and nice and clean. The 4 poster bed was stunning! The vintage feel of the hotel carried on into the rooms and it was like stepping back in time, it was nicely done. It's a really beautiful old building and incredible high ceilings. The bathroom was lovely, towels provided and mini toiletries. We requested a later check in, due to how far we were travelling and this wasn't a problem at all. We even received a call to see how we were going and it seemed genuine, not a 'how long will you be?' type thing. When we checked in, the gentleman couldn't do enough to help which was really sweet.

The floors creaked a lot, it is an old building and it's to be expected, but it was almost literally every floorboard, we woke each other up in the night, as did your neighbours, just by going to the loo.

Lovely old fashioned room, grand and spacious, overlooking St Mary's Church. Very polite staff and a good breakfast. Coffee could have been stronger and hotter. Very convenient location.

Old, heavily painted sash windows in the bedroom would not open. The one in the en suite did open but slid down again and had either to be opened wider, risking jamming, or 'fixed' with a piece of folded cardboard. The weather was actually very warm and more air would have been welcome.

The hotel is a very old (250+ years), with the charm and quirks to go with it. Room was very comfortable and clean. The staff were welcoming and helpful. The breakfast was excellent, and catered for my wife, who is Coeliac, with no problem at all.

The only gripe, or negative comment we would make (which is no fault of the hotel), is that our room was facing the church, with a clock that chimes every 15 minutes, including through the night.

The customer service was fantastic after I'd had an issue with a party member, they were very accommodating and resolved the issue with zero fuss. The room was spacious, comfortable and clean. The staff were very friendly and happily helped celebrate my daughter's birthday with us.

The only issue I'd say is that the walls are thin. My room backed onto another with an adjoining door that was not in use, so covered with a wardrobe. I could hear everything the man in the room next door did from yawning to turning over in bed. I actually had to knock on his door to request he turn down the volume of his TV as my daughter couldn't sleep with it being so loud. He did with no fuss, thankfully.

lovely location, clean and spacious rooms, lovely host and good breakfast.

one of the windows in the room was faulty so it was open all through. That made the room cold a little bit. It was manageable given the time of the year. There is a church directly opposite my room and the church bell rings every hour. Given the window was open, I could hear the bell clearly. it was a bit disturbing especially in the middle of the night.
