Howfield has a lot of character and is set in fabulous grounds in a very quiet setting. - it's no cookie cutter hotel, so expect the stairs may turn a bit! . Room décor is very stylish and there are some nice touches beyond what you may expect, like a safe in the room as well as a fridge. The room was properly serviced every day. Restaurant meals are excellent and a proper cooked breakfast is provided.

If you are someone who likes to go to sleep at 9pm you may want to check if there is a wedding reception on when you book - one wing of the hotel is right next to the reception venue and when we got back on Friday evening there were some customers who were rather incensed that some people may actually be enjoying themselves. Having said that, our room was right next to the venue, we got back to the hotel at 10.30pm and all the music stopped at 11pm. We then proceeded to enjoy our usual quite night.

Hotel was clean and tidy. Staff absolutely brilliant and courteous. Food was good. Nice setting and would recommend as a getaway.

Room 10 was very noisy!. 1) A water tank, above the room, when filling ( a lot!), was so noisy from the force of the water running into the seemly large open tank, it kept us awake. The noise was high enough to make it difficult to hear the TV, or music from the function.... Would NOT recommend this room to anyone..... Unless you take ear plugs. 2) A function was being held in the marquee, which was directly outside the room window. This was not really a problem as such but the water tank certainly was. The point here is that if a function is being held, you need to be mindful - that said, it finished at around 23.00, so all is good and trust the event went well.

You can well imagine going back 150 years. Howfield Manor is inspiring and fires up your imagination. The generous setting with lots of huge old trees, rose gardens, outdoor sitting areas where you could enjoy cream teas, a half-hidden bench under a low-hanging linden tree and, and, and. The hotel is well maintained, the restaurant serves excellent food (breakfast and dinner) the staff are very friendly and helpful.

The bathroom could do with a face-lift. The water pressure in the shower was almost non-existent. WiFi slow and not up to modern standard.

The restaurant, bar area and lounge area were very well set up and felt very comfortable. The room was fine, does need a little TLC in areas. Bedding felt nice, clean and fresh, bed size appear to be a small double so not a lot of room. Bathroom tight but adequate, shower power and water temperature adjustment very good. Dinner and breakfast food was excellent and well presented. The staff were excellent and always very helpful.

Only observations were that the room décor could possibly do with some TLC and would be nice to have slightly bigger bed, although this may be down to having king size bed at home.

It was like a trip into the past with the wonderful old manor and the staff's attention to details. We were welcomed at the front desk, shown to a spacious room and told about the grounds, which we subsequently visited. We booked dinner and it was a treat, good quality roast (it was Sunday) and we were even allowed to have half portions ( as we are not enormous eaters) allowing us to share a starter. The wine was splendid. Breakfast was excellent and included.

Nothing -- a bit dated but beautifully managed.

I stayed there for 3 nights with my 2 boys and we absolutely love it. Plenty of space for them in the garden to kick football around and they try to claimed the trees 😁. Location is great, short walk to the river and lake and quick drive to Canterbury. The restaurant had the nice and homely atmosphere with lots of original features. Breakfast was very good, well cooked and tasty. The staff will go all the way to meet the needs of a fussy eaters.(I don’t understand why in some other reviews people complain about it). We had a great time!!!

The staff were very friendly, helpful, and professional, the room was very good with pleasant views of the garden, the breakfast was very well done and had an option to sit outside in the garden, with very good breakfast service.

The location is "out of town", which on the one hand is very pleasant, but on the other hand also means it is not so easy to get to by public transit. I often like to travel by train, but this time I drove, although I guess I could have got a taxi to/from the station.

The hotel was located in the Kent countryside on the edge of a picturesque village, the food was excellent we had a very nice evening meal, the service was very good and all staff polite and professional, we also had a very good breakfast, all three courses were avalanche, toast, cereal and full English again served by very pleased friendly staff. The room was of a good size and clean with everything we needed for our stay although in our opinion the decor a little tired. We definitely recommend this hotel and looking forward to a return visit

All good

The staff are all amazing and friendly. Nothing is too much trouble and always done with a smile. A particular mention to Martin and Justin( think those are the correct names? They were both on breakfast duty the morning of Tuesday 8th November 2022.) We would also like to thank the chef...food was very very good and we had boiled eggs which weren't on the menu! This was our second visit and we will most definitely return. The grounds are beautiful and the hotel is very clean and atmospheric. You will need a car to explore the area, however, there is a beautiful walk along the river to Canterbury which is approx an hour each way from the hotel.

We stayed in room 9 , sadly the view was blocked by a marquee in the garden and the mattresses on both beds (it's a Twin room) were very uncomfortable, we could both feel the springs and they dipped in the middle. We stayed in other rooms within the hotel and haven't experienced this in any of the other rooms. The fan in the bathroom of the adjoining room was very noisy and sounded like it might fly off the wall!
