I doubt I could find fault with the Haven if I tried. Right from our arrival Esther and Iain were very welcoming and put us at ease straightaway. Breakfast was amazing with a fresh, exotic, fruit salad to start followed by a huge choice of cooked items. Esther's coffee was superb too! Iain was a wealth of information regarding local excursions around Dumfries and Galloway and Esther was always happy to have a chat - her anecdotes about growing up in South Africa would make a best seller. We'll almost certainly be booking again.

Esther and Ian were perfect hosts. They made us so welcome in their home. We enjoyed chatting with them and hearing about their very interesting lives. Esther served delicious homemade pancakes with strawberry jam and cream on arrival.Such a lively treat. Breakfasts were a joy to behold, the fruit platters were amazing. She definitely went above and beyond.

There is absolutely nothing we didn't like.

What can you say about the Haven that hasn’t already been said ? Firstly , the welcome is memorable , one is made to feel your are a truly honoured guest , and nothing is going to be too much trouble . The room is homely , comfortable and well equipped , designed and decorated tastefully . Hot water , beautifully comfortable bed , fabulous home made cookies , and a fridge , all rooms should have a fridge , but don’t . There is nothing Esther has forgotten . The breakfast , a work of art , that tastes superb . But there are not enough superlatives to describe this fascinating couple and their overwhelming kindness . It’s a stop I will never forget , and I will return . Ian and Esther , thank you both for everything, you made me feel very special .

I could not stay longer

We were made to feel so welcome and Ian and Esther are excellent hosts and incredibly generous. The Haven is in a beautiful setting and the gardens beside the River Dee are glorious. Great info about the area and Ian helped us plan our onward journey. We had really interesting conversations with them both and were truly treated like friends. We had everything we could possibly need in our room. Esther makes fabulous food and our breakfast was superb. The dogs are just delightful. We were sorry to leave and hope we will meet again. Thank you lovely Ian and Esther and we look forward to seeing the pups!

A great location by the river. A bonus is being able to sit in the wonderful garden by the river or in a large gazebo. There is also a sitting room for use by guests. The breakfasts are wonderful, cooked to order and with mixed fresh fruit and yoghurt.

The room is a little on the small side, but the bed is confortable and the room is quiet.

What a truly wonderful discovery this B&B was! Esther, Ian and Ella were so very welcoming, hospitable and kind. The food was magnificent and the room was just lovely, with a WICKED shower! :-) I'll definitely be back and will be recommending this B&B to whoever I can. To say it leaves most others standing would be the understatement of the century!

Nothing at all. It was absolutely wonderful in every respect.

The breakfast was delicious, beautifully presented and just the right amount. Definitely the best breakfast we have had in Scotland. The property is in an idyllic riverside setting. We were invited to enjoy the evening in the owners magnificent garden, where we also had our breakfast the next morning. The bedroom was very nicely decorated with characterful accessories, comfortable bed and all the facilities you expect from a well organised b&b with thoughtful hosts.

Can't think of any improvements - even the weather was brilliant for our stay.

The location was amazing. So peaceful and being right next to the river was lovely. The hosts were very welcoming to us and our dogs and there were no fussy rules. A glass of wine in the garden was a must! The room was very comfortable. Even a mini fridge. More than exceeded expectations. Liked the owners art works too. Breakfast in the conservatory was enjoyable. Fruit plate starter and then whatever you fancied of English breakfast type fare. Very nice. Finished with coffee in the garden. Our choice.

Was like staying at a friend's house which I suppose it was in some ways. The breakfast was well presented and could be customised to your requirements. The room was spacious for a B&B with a large en-suite shower. The location is very picturesque beside the River Dee ideal for bird spotting and only a few miles from Castle Douglas. Recommended.

Very friendly and helpful hosts in a beautiful location next to the River Dee. The breakfasts were excellent. The position of this B&B so close to the A75 is perfect for traveling to various places of interest.

Hardly anything but more hooks for towels would have been helpful if room could be found
