The staff were very friendly and very helpful. I was disappointed that evening meals were not served at the weekend. However the staff allowed us to use their bar tables and provided us with all cutlery and crockery in order for us to eat carry out meals from local take always. They also advised us of the best places to purchase our takeaways. The breakfasts were absolutely perfect. We were served straight away and mmmmmm.

There was no lift and room access could only be achieved via a spiral type staircase. However the staff took all our luggage to our room for us. I don't think the premises would be suitable for wheelchairs or severely disabled people.

In Castle Douglas High street above a busy pub and could have been noisy but the bar below the rooms was shut at 10pm and it was actually very quiet. The rooms were comfortable and the staff were friendly. A good place to stay for a few nights if you visit the area.

Rooms needed updating but it looked like this was an ongoing job and the mattress had recently been replaced so we had a good nights sleep.

Lovely old coaching house style pub, with big rooms and easy access to local amenities. Very friendly staff and excellent breakfast! Plenty of parking on the street or in the carpark to rear.

Unfortunately, the bathroom for our room was ready for an update, the shower was poor and didnt work very well, and the sink was cracked.

The breakfast itself was worth the trip. Fantastic quality served by brilliant staff. We were checked in with the warmest of welcomes. Everyone we spoke to was fabulous. Castle Douglas is a great little town and the Imperial is a great base to explore the area. We had a great night's sleep

It's a great place to stay, it's quirky and affordable.

the staff couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly…nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was quick, tasty and freshly cooked every day. The room was spotless.

The road was noisy, but there were more rooms off the road over the pub. The decor was a little tired, but there was absolutely everything that you needed in the room.

The staff here are excellent, right from when we checked in, to the moment we left. Nothing was too much trouble. The rooms had lots of space and in my case the bathroom was huge, with a decent sized bath and plenty of hot water.

Knowing what we knew before we got to the hotel, there really wasn't anything we didn't like.

Nice old property, easy to explore other nearby places. The staff at the hotel are so friendly, helpful and always there to help and advise. Food is excellent and very filling.

I could only get BBC1 & 2 on the TV. Sadly evening meals are only on Mon, Tues & Wednesdays.

Friendly staff, check in was quick and easy. The room was clean and comfortable, some updating of the decor would be ideal, but a suitable stay was had. Breakfast was excellent, catering for our dietary requirements seemed no hassle.

Carpet in the bathroom, general maintenance (tidying up edges or wallpaper etc)

- the staff were fantastic and obviously care about the community and visitors. locals in the pubs below were great people to talk to as well. breakfast was accommodating and delicious. we all really enjoyed our time in Castle Douglas. Rooms aren’t exactly modern, but I don’t think that should be a problem for anyone, accommodations are more than adequate.

- it can be loud till about 10-11pm on weekends. we didn’t mind at all, but I’m sure some would want to know.

honestly, this hotel is lovely! some of the reviews on here are a bit harsh! we had a fantastic stay, room was very clean, spacious and had everything we needed and more. the breakfast was amazing, and staff were so friendly and helpful. great value for money, the decor is traditional, shabby chic! which is what you expect when you visit a small town like castle Douglas! it adds to the experience, I wouldn’t of enjoyed myself if I was in a fancy pristine modern hotel. highly recommend.
