Had the most wonderful stay here with our grandchildren … no it’s not 5 star and remember neither is the price and on that note I rate it exceptional… the breakfast was better than most 5 star hotels I’ve stayed in and the fact it is maybe tired added to the experience it was charming and took me back to my childhood .. exactly the experience I wanted my grandchildren to experience.. the location was beautiful. We woke to sunshine and a beautiful view across the river … we originally booked a different hotel that was double the price until my grandchildren decided they wanted to join us and I’m so glad we changed hotels and booked here …… they do a tomahawk steak for two on the night time menu ! Absolutely superb!! Definitely recommend.. the staff are wonderful my only complaint was the water ran very slowly but it’s an old hotel/pub so otherwise 10/10

The location of the hotel is lovely-right on the water front in a beautiful village. The breakfast was great both quantity and quality, and served by very friendly staff who went above and beyond to help with special likes /dislikes. Good selection of yoghurt, cereal, juices and full cooked Scottish. The bedroom was comfortable and had tea/ coffee making facilities. Lovely views over the surrounding scenery.

The stairway areas were very dark and dimly lit and the decor was a little “tired” on the landings. There was some damage to old skirting boards in the bathroom. Everything was very clean - just in need of a bit of care which was a shame as the staff were helpful and the food and restaurant areas were good. I think some redecoration was ongoing however. It would not stop us staying here again.

The staff were excellent and friendly. The food was delicious both at breakfast and our evening meal for both days. Lovely view from our bedroom and the bar was cosy with a nice vibe .

The bedroom and area leading to it was in need of updating. Our bed was most uncomfortable we felt we were sleeping on bare springs. Due to this being an old building the floor sloped in our bedroom hence the bed did the same thing. Please replace the bed with quality one as point knocked off for this reason.

Lovely property. As soon as we walked into the bar we felt at home. The bar is still olde worlde with loads of character whilst the dining room has been upgraded and is beautiful, welcoming and comfortable. The room was comfortable and clean. The bed was so comfy that I didn’t actually want to get out of bed this morning. We ate lunch, dinner and breakfast here and omg it was all fabulous. The staff were all brilliant and we so enjoyed chatting with them. We would definitely recommend The Anchor.

Absolutely nothing.

Staff all very friendly and accommodating. Room was spotless and well kept and,bed was super comfy. Evening meal and breakfast was exceptional. Best cooked breakfast we've ever had. The scrambled eggs were top quality along with the rest of the cooked breakfast.

Room was spotless but needs updating. Decor didn't suit the feel of The Anchor or old building. The blind or curtain was missing from the bathroom. There was a see through curtain, with other buildings/ windows close by where you felt you could be seen while using the sink and toilet. Not enough plug sockets to charge your phone or use a hairdryer. You had to unplug the bedside lamp to do this.

it is set on the Waterfront of Kippford which is very pretty and a great place to sit and watch the world go by. The property retains many of its original features and has a great deal of history, the bar has a good range of beers and spirits, the menu has something for everyone and breakfast was very good. The meals were well prepared, piping hot and plentiful. The staff were very helpful, hospitable and attentive making our stay a pleasure.

As a historic Harbour Inn, the property has tried to retain many of its original features , the room we had was small and the bathroom fittings a little tired, it was clear that the owners have a difficult task in delivering modern bathroom fittings whilst retaining the original period character of the property. The room was however comfortable and adequate for our brief stay and we would stay again.

Super friendly staff, great atmosphere and great location. Staff were helpful and polite. The breakfast and other meals were good and the bar / dining area was cosy and friendly.

Rooms were a little basic although perfectly clean and functional. The shower in the en-suite was very low pressure and the bathroom could have done with a refresh but yet again was clean and serviceable.

Such a lovely, quaint and picturesque place to stay. The hotel is lovely, clean and the food was lovely. The open fire was exceptional and Jimmy the manger was mint. Very warm and welcoming. He manages the Anchor Hotel very well. No job was too small for him. Great manners and personable, hard working and clearly passionate about the job he does. Having a great pub manager is essential to a little village and keeps the trade coming through the doors.

The Anchor Hotel is a small property that is basic but really friendly and just everything you need for a break away. I had a family event on and they let us use the room above for a family quiz. We just needed to go downstairs to get drinks and a buffet could have been provided if requested. My room was clean with a dual aspect view of the beautiful Solway Firth. The bed was so comfy! If you want the Ritz, go to The Ritz, if you want a bit of down to earth heaven go to the Anchor. You won’t be disappointed.
