Terrific location, central to exploring the area. Food in the bar area was decent and the breakfast was good. Hosts were friendly. Top floor room which was very spacious, more like a small flat, lovely refurbished bathroom.

boiler was in the bathroom and was noisy and sometimes you could smell diesel, but I appreciate the boiler has to go somewhere.

Good location, with nice view out of the window. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We greatly appreciated the fact that there was no piped music.

It took us a couple of nights to get used to the beds, which seemed rather springy. There were a couple of cold nights after a heat-wave, and we were pleased to find the fleeces in the wardrobe The room wasn't serviced during our 5-day stay and we had to ask for replacements of towels, tea-bags, etc. There could have been more choice for vegetarians and those who don't want a cooked breakfast.

The staff were tremendous and couldn't do enough for our walking group. From our arrival to departure Tom, Dave, Ang & Carol were so friendly and obliging, which really made a significant difference to ensuring our walking trip was such a special few days away whilst based in the beautiful scenic Kippford. We've told all our walking friends what a fantastic place The Mariner is to stay and they all want to join us when we do it again next year!

Having to leave!

Very well appointed hotel, and easy to find. Clean room with Tea and coffee making provided. All as described on the booking form. An excellent reception on arrival. Breakfast was prompt, hot and plentiful. A separate entrance was available to the hotel section, which was very acceptable.. The day / evening food was superbly cooked and of high quality. A great variety of choice on offer and very generous portion sizes. Highly recommended.

The full cooked breakfast was great, not too large or small, just right, and quick service. Other meals excellent, generous portions. Good real ales available. All of the staff that I dealt with were brilliant - very pleasant, cheerful and helpful. They worked really hard serving food and drinks at busy periods, nothing too much trouble, & that's in addition to their other duties. Top notch. Nice little bedroom as part of a spacious "apartment". Lovely modern bathroom. And Kippford itself: superb of course.

Minor niggles really. Disappointed to find no toiletries except a near-empty Radox shower gel (left by a previous guest?) and of course this was the one time I didn't bring my own. Also disappointed to find on return to my room after my day out that the room had not been serviced at all. I don't expect much, but a refreshed tea/coffee/biscuits tray would've been nice.

This was the third time I had visited Kippford, but was the first time staying at the Mariner Hotel. The owners were really nice and helpful, the room I stayed in was spotless with a nice large shower and tea and coffee making facilities and complimentary biscuits. The breakfast was excellent as was the evening meal we had. All in all a very enjoyable and relaxing few days on the Solway coast.

Wonderful staff who couldn’t do enough for us - faultless! The meals we had were, in all honesty, the best we have ever had, the portion sizes were too much for us and the food was exceptional! Will definitely go back again - brilliant!

Nothing! An older hotel but obviously very well maintained!

Our room overlooked the lovely harbour and was nicely decorated, with very comfy beds and a nice shower room. Angela was very welcoming and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The weather was sunny so we were able to have dinner sitting in the large garden which was great. Vegetarians have several good choices for dinner. There are stunning walks from the door and more within a short drive.

Our hosts were friendly and helpful, the breakfasts were good and the room was perfectly adequate for our needs, with a comfortable bed. Having both a bath and a shower was a bonus, too. The 'jewel in the crown' for us was the magnificent view over the estuary from our room and, of course, the great scenery in and around the village.

We stayed on a B&B basis, so it may be unfair to criticise the restaurant food, but it was rather plain 'pub grub' - much better food is available nearby. Some of the furnishings were a little jaded and the bathroom hot water was very hot. The midsummer Scottish weather was typically very wet and very windy during our (midsummer!) stay, and the noise of the wind in the rigging of the vessels of the sailing club caused some sleep disturbance - again, no fault of our hosts!
