the suites were ideal, lovely and clean

the breakfast! we arrived the first morning and there was barely anything left in the continental section. staff were clearly run off their feet and struggled to keep up with clearing up and restocking. we chose not to have breakfast in the hotel following this initial experience

The hotel is in a quiet location with a golf course and spa. We stayed for one night on a dinner/bed and breakfast deal. The staff here are lovely. Particularly Mandy on reception and the young blonde girl who served our food ( whose name I didn't catch) They were both very friendly and helpful, especially to my disabled spouse. The food was excellent. We had the steak for dinner and it was cooked perfectly and was delicious. Breakfast had plenty of choice for cooked or continental. Hotel is spotlessly clean, comfortable and was silent at night. We slept well and will definitely be back

Not a complaint but the bed was a very small double. Would have preferred a normal double size bed

Loved how spacious and comfortable the room was, we opted for the four poster room, and it was very comfortable, it was quirky, in that it was a historic building and in places the ground felt slanted, or the walls were uneven, but this just added to its charm. There was a wedding party at the hotel that night, and the staff made sure that our room was not near the celebrations, or the rooms of the wedding party, which meant there was no noise disturbance. Very impressed that this was thought of.

Wouldn’t say didn’t like, but was a little disappointed that the pool was unavailable, this wasn’t communicated with us until we arrived, and with being up there for the Great North Run, we were looking forward to stretching our before hand with a swim.

Staff very helpful and friendly, room was comfortable and lovely and clean , food tasty , staff had a busy time keeping breakfast buffet filled up , think this was due to a large party of lady’s having breakfast and going up to buffet multiple times , also filling up food to take out with them, which was not very fair on the hotel and other residents , the pool was a bonus I enjoyed a swim before breakfast , it was lovely and warm and staff friendly there too , the location of hotel is beautiful, and you can hop on a bus into Darlington nearly just at the hotel , meals at night were delicious and served by pleasant staff too we couldn’t have asked for anything better

Conveniently situated just off the A1 for onward journey to Scotland. Easy check-in and upgraded to executive room but now I know that I would have preferred to stay in The Stables, an outbuilding close to the gym, pool and spa area. This is the main reason I chose to stay here plus the convenient location mentioned. Breakfast was an additional charge but I would recommend as there was lots to choose from and was buffet style. The dining area was exceptionally clean as was everywhere and beautiful, with views across the golf course. Enjoyed using the pool and gym, although rather small and limited equipment and the spa. Very good value and comfortable. Would definitely stay again and therefore would recommend.

My room was quite a long way to get too and I really didn’t think it was ‘executive’.

The accomodation was lovely. Friendly staff and beautiful surroundings. I always enjoy our stay and would recommend it. We are regular visitors.

Disappointed with the evening menu as not as good as it used to be sadly. The breakfast was poor due to most things running out and only topped up when you asked. Properly trained staff who keep an eye on the food counter....cups, water, juice, glasses etc would push my ratings up, Staff were mostly in the kitchen. several people had to knock on the kitchen door to raise their awareness. A small improvement would make a big difference.

We were initially allocated room 27, but found the room and bed to be too small. My partner and I returned to the reception to ask about upgrading, as there were better rooms showing as available on booking.com. The receptionist very kindly allowed us to upgrade for a small extra charge, placing us in suite no. 22, which made a massive difference to our stay. The evening meal was excellent, very tasty. We each had the soup and steak main. The breakfast was also excellent, with a good range of tasty options. All the leisure facilities were working. All staff were very pleasant. On checking out the next day, the same receptionist let us off with paying for the hot drinks we had from the pool / spa.

The standard room, such as room 27 that we were initially allocated, was very small, including just a basic double bed. I would say such a room would be more suited to a lone traveller. We will return to this hotel, but only to have a suite, would not book a standard room. Fortunately, upgrade to the suite didn't cost very much more. The pool area could do with updating, though everything was operational.

Staff very pleasant, room large and comfortable bed, nice surroundings with a golf course on site. Food in the hub good, slightly expensive for what it is but far cheaper than the main restaurant.

Main Restaurant prices just ridiculous £23 for a burger!!! breakfast service a little slow , starts at 7am but time you order a cooked breakfast and it actually arrives it can take 30 minutes which isn’t ideal if your on a schedule, be ideal if you could pre-order in the evening to avoid the wait, cooked breakfast also on the small side very much 1 of each item, coffee machine and juice levels low and coffee machine is slow.

Location was excellent. My friend used the leisure facilities whilst I was out and thought they were fantastic. Staff were really friendly and helpful.

The room was nice but the bathroom was a bit tired. There was a wedding party the evening we stayed and were very inconsiderate to other guests talking in the corridor until 345am, despite having several notices on the wall in the corridor (not the fault of the hotel).

We really enjoyed the location the hotel was beautiful and the staff were really nice and helpful we enjoyed what time we did have in the leisure very nice and relaxing..

I diddnt like that we were inconvenienced and had to spend 7 hours out of the hotel which we paid to be in due to something to do with power I do feel we should of been compensated for that as we lost time in the hotel and the leasure relaxing and had to find things to do for 7 hours ...
