The location was absolutely beautiful and we love exploring the grounds. The castle itself had some beautifully kept and well-maintained main rooms that were fun to look at. It was like stepping back in time.

Our room was not at all what I expected based on the picture seen online. It was very basic. The stop for the shower would not stay up. And it just seemed a little bit less cat. If I was basing our room alone on the price of our hotel I would say it was very overpriced. Room was quite warm as well

We stayed overnight with our small dog on the top floor (there is a lift) we used the stairs as very beautiful decor with lovely painting ornaments etc and stairway very wide and you can see all the way down. Evening meal was delicious. Lovely grounds to walk around and pathways. You feel very secluded amongst all the trees but you only 5 mins from Edinburgh bypass. Beautiful sunny morning when we left after having another delicious breakfast. Service was slow and would be much better if a pot of coffee was left on table as we had to keep asking for top up. Toast was delivered 15 mins before rest of breakfast which again wasn’t the end of the world but would have been better if all came together

Extra pillows might have been nice but weren’t needed coffee and hot water pot on breakfast table also continental could have had bit more

The historical aspect of the accommodation. It’s background. The large room and attention to detail. The furnishings. There were several communal rooms in which to relax, the bar, the library, the other living room, the deck in which showed the expanse of the area surrounded in trees. The horses grazing was a pleasure to watch. The situation was quiet but easy to get into town, via bus or car. The breakfast offered continental and a full breakfast, I had the traditional of haggis, black pudding, sausage and more! I could write further about the qualities of this accommodation, in the end I would recommend this stay one or two nights at least, treat yourself.

That we had to leave.

Staff were excellent, very friendly, very helpful. The overall planning and delivery of the 'Wedding Event Package' was faultless. Meal service was with more than adequate staff cover serving warm food with precision delivery - impressive.

Couldn't tell initially if the room and bedding was damp or cold (or both). The bath anti slip mat and its bag were both mouldy. there were signs of mould around bath. The shower control of temperature was faulty with the water temperature either stone cold or roasting hot. Generally room 12 could benefit from an update.

Location was quiet, surrounded by trees. Very pretty area. Once off property, it was fairly close to amenities (restaurants, bars, gas stations). We slept in a 2 bedroom that had a nice big livingroom to spread out and lounge in. Elevator was great! On the outskirts of Edinburgh, which was perfect staging point for our escape to Glasgow after our stay.

LOTS of stairs to get to room, if you chose that option, but had an elevator which helped a lot! The road to the hotel was a single road with passing zones, but not a lot of traffic, so it wasn't too bad. We passed on breakfast as it seemed a bit expensive for what we would eat

A reasonably wide variety of cooked breakfasts which took some time to arrive at the table. An Arbroath smokie would have been very welcome, Both dinners I had were outstanding, beautifully cooked and utterly delicious. An extensive and interesting wine list with some extremely expensive wines. The bar had a very good array of malt whiskies, but then you'd expect that in Scotland. A good selection of other liquors. The staff were great

Whilst I had a single room, I'm unused to a single bed and would have preferred a wider bed to stretch out in. The room had very dark and gloomy wallpaper. The bathroom wash hand basin was tiny, set very low and had no plug. A poor selection of cereals, jams and marmalade at the breakfast bar. A swimming pool would be a welcome addition. I was charged for my breakfasts and discovered online after I left that breakfasts were free :(

the smell as soon as you walk in is heavenly, wood fire smell. the bed was the most comfortable and slept well. and the grounds are gorgeous.

the horses had no rugs on, just left in the paddock in the snow. the bath I wanted to have took too long so gave up as zero water pressure, a dribble for a shower, most upsetting. and the staff though very friendly we’re more interested in setting up for an upcoming event than serving us. restaurant was no busy but took over half hour to take order but food was quick and tasty but 1 of us got sick that night, suspect food poisoning.

Magnificent place to stay whilst enjoying the fringe. A bit out of the way from the centre but such a lovely place to retire to in the evening.

Nothing major but I think the reception area and the service could be improved. Felt like a little desk in the corner with an environment that does not create a warm hospitable feel. Think the initial customer reception and the anchoring of customer service to a more pleasant experience needs to be refined to amplify the surrounding experience.

EVERYTHING! Breakfast is included and it was divine! What an amazing time I had at the Melville. Location is a little further from downtown Edinburgh but they have an in house taxi service and also walking distance bus stop that arrive every 10-20 minutes into town. The stay was very comfortable, clean and cozy. The views were spectacular! Lots of history. Also for dinner reservations they have where you don’t have to even leave ! Most importantly though it was the staff that made this stay extraordinary. Shaun the bartender was so much fun and very well experienced. Logan and Amy got to serve us and they were so great! Lastly all the receptionist were helpful, caring and I never wanted to leave

The property and the grounds are absolutely stunning. From the moment you drive down to the property, to walking in the doors this property does not disappoint. You can watch the little Squirrels out the front, sit it the beautiful bar area. The staff are all so helpful and friendly. I would DEFINITELY go back and stay for a few days as we only stayed overnight on this occasion. The food in the restaurant was awesome and so delicious.

There is nothing to dislike except that I couldn’t stay longer.
