The location was literally in the heart of old town. I could not ask for a better location. The room was cozy.

The bedding was poor quality. The duvet was a cheap insert of some scratchy fluff. Also I had a scary incident in the stairwell, emailed the owners, and the never responded. Two heroin addicts were shooting up in the tiny stairwell. I had to step over their needless and drugs and to get past them. When I returned, the rope handrail was on fire. I ran up 4 flights to my room to get water in a tea kettle to put it out. The whole stairwell was smoky. I emailed video footage to the address provided. They did not even respond!

The room was located just above the Royal Mile (the windows opened above the street). It was very convenient to walk to everything near the castle, and both Old and New Towns. The room itself was nicely appointed and the hosts left some nice treats for us

The dark, steep stairway was scary, especially when carrying heavy luggage. It is not well lit, nor is there much of anything to hold onto. . The instructions to enter independently were long and the walk up the medieval staircase was a bit edgy. I would also add a fan as there could be some stuffy nights. Also, someone was smoking in another room and it seeped into ours. Smoking doesn't seem like a safe thing to do in an old building like that.

The location is hard to beat. It's in the Royal Mile, minutes away from the Edinburgh Castle, St. Giles Cathedral, and Victoria Street. Waverly St. is 10-15 min. walk. There are lots of places to eat nearby and also souvenirs shop. If you book a walking tour, some of them have meeting points is just around Royal Mile which is nice. The hotel itself is comfortable and clean despite being an old building. Cool interior with stone pillar in our room, good heating, and they gave us a lot of packets of coffee/tea/milk and a box of cookies as a welcome gift. Also the owner is very responsive of our questions via text message. All in all for a place to rest for the night it's well worth the price.

It's understandable as it is an old building located on a hill, and the owner gave a notice but the water pressure in the shower is not very strong. I also wish the tap water can be adjusted (the options are scalding hot or freezing) but such is the situation of UK tap water.. Also there are no elevator so get ready climb the spiraling staircase to the 4th floor with luggage. :D

Location was perfect accommodation spotless great value for money

I think that more information needs to be given about just how many steps you had to walk up to get to the room it was stated that there was no lifts but we weren’t quite prepared for 77 steps up a winding staircase on finding this out when we arrived at the accommodation we would have preferred a flat on maybe the second floor as opposed to the fourth that we were allocated

The location is brilliant! Loads of pubs, restaurants, and sights to explore nearby. Check-in was a breeze, even without any face-to-face contact. The heaters worked perfectly, and adjusting the temperature was super easy! :)

Our check-in time was 3:00pm, but unfortunately, when we arrived, the room hadn’t been cleaned. We got in touch with the property manager, who was very helpful and sorted things out. We were able to leave our bags in the room, but it did take almost two hours for everything to be ready. However, the staff were really helpful over the phone. We stayed on the fourth floor, and the water pressure in the shower was a bit naff, which made it difficult to have a quick shower.

Room absolutely lovely and comfortable heating on and lamps on when I arrived more than happy with the location etc Really nice pub for a quick drink in the alleyway and fine for a single solo traveller.

I feel that I hope this is taken as constructive criticism: The stairs are concrete and spiral and trying to get my suitcase up 4 floors was challenging but good for fitness. A few scuffs on the wall can easily be rectified. The bed throw needs binning and introduce a more luxurious one near the castle maybe tartan. The window didn’t open for fresh air The towels too small perhaps one bigger one would be better.

Absolutely loved the stairs up (not for everyone, but I loved the vibe!) The room exceeded our expectations and it was a lot bigger than the photos. The exposed walls and castle vibe was perfect for me! I also nabbed the room for a last minute price which was incredible.

The only downside is that they're currently doing work on the royal mile so it was a bit noisy in the morning, through no fault of the hosts obviously! But I'm sure at another time it would be fab!

As soon as you enter the door from the street you feel like you entering into a castle. The rounded stairway puts a smile on your face every time you walk upon it. The room is comfortable and the view to the street is amazing. We really loved the place and would definitely recommend it.

The place hasn’t been dusted for a long while especially in the bathroom. The heating grill has dust balls behind the grill which I found unnecessary especially when you can fix this in a matter of seconds. There was just one bed cover and they left us with only one toilet paper. It was also a bit loud but this is what you get with the location as the windows are not sound proof. I did sleep great so…

I loved the character and central location of these suites, outstanding decor (well described and castle-like), also the spaciousness of the Palmerston suite and its view looking down on the Royal Mile. A really great cafe right by the blue door entrance which had a great Full Scottish breakfast (Thistle Stop Cafe) and great courtyard, many tourists on tours here for tales of the historic value of the area. But with hefty logistics and stressful self check-in and check-out conditions if alone late at night.

What I found quite incovenient, although made clear in the descriptions, were the many spiral stairs to get to the suite, and somewhat dark and dizzying even for someone young who works out. I ended up having a much delayed flight and arriving at 2AM (no one's fault of course) and found the whole experience of self-check in and opening many doors and going up ancients stairs quite creepy :) Also, some real coffee for non-tea drinkers wouldn't have hurt. 10AM check-in is a bit early (given the high price) and also having limited luggage storage at the accommodation after check-out was an extra stress (only saw this aspect after I booked the room). Think I'll go for a hotel with a proper reception next time for less hassle.

Beautiful room in a wonderful old building, right in the heart of the royal mile. Super accessible to anything touristy you may need, and right in the heart of the city for access anywhere else. The kitchenette was incredibly useful for a slightly cheaper stay in terms of eating. Julia and the team made sure we had everything we needed, and even left a lovely little welcome box in the room. I cannot recommend enough!

Nothing negative to comment on at all, but be prepared for lots of spiral stairs on the way up to your room!
