An old arts and craft property. Some rooms have been recently renovated and are very clean and comfortable. The staff were helpful and accommodating when we wished to change rooms. The evening meal was delicious, as was the cooked breakfast the following morning. An easy 10 minute walk into the city centre and cathedral.
Initially didn’t get the room we thought we had booked but we ended up in a very comfortable and clean room. No one present when we arrived but keys to room were available as were contact details for owner if there were any questions.

It's the second time we've stayed here and we love the house and garden. It's so homely and the garden is just divine. I loved sitting outside with my book having an hours peace! Breakfast is very good, dinner wasn't as good as our first stay but still nice. Our bed was comfortable, there's plenty of hot water and even though the shower room was tiny it functioned really well. I love the thought that's gone into the use of the rooms there's a jug to help fill the kettle, hooks where you need them, a shelf and hairdryer by the mirror, proper bedside lamps - that's so rare in most places. Good parking, Very friendly staff.
It's the same gripe as last time, the decor is odd and not in keeping with the beauty and history of the house.

This house reminds me of the best bits of Miss Marple. Huge grassy garden, wood panelling, olde worlde peace and tranquility. Our twin room was exceptionally clean with a large window looking over the garden. It was perfectly equipped for a night away with lots of TV channels (if this floats your boat) space and all necessary equipment and consumables. The house is in a great location for the centre of town and cathedral or river or train station. Breakfast was good with cereals, homemade stewed fruits and cooked options. The restaurant/breakfast room.was beautiful as was the lounge and bar area. Service was extremely friendly. Lots to love.
You clearly have oodles of interior design ideas. Perhaps just limit them a little. If you have set menus for breakfast and evening meals, please include vegetarian alternatives (I know you are more than happy to oblige but I felt guilty for asking). Perhaps post the bar opening hours so guests know what to expect.

Plenty of parking on arrival and self check in was easy. Our room was clean and ready with everything we needed. Decent shower, huge fluffy bath towels and a jug for the water which we really appreciated as the sinks were too shallow to fill a water bottle. The beds were really comfortable and we overlooked the beautiful garden. We got back to the hotel about 1am and thankfully the key worked perfectly! Great nights sleep, I can't comment if it was quiet or noisy as I sleep with earplugs. The member of staff on duty at breakfast was wonderful, he explained everything to us and took our orders. They poach their own fruit - peaches etc and it's wonderful with the yoghurt - breakfast was lovely and made specially for us. I would definitely stay here again. It's an older building but we found it quite charming. Thank you for having us!
My friend was woken up early by someone doing some sort of mowing or strimming - I didn't hear it (had earplugs) but she was quite annoyed as it was so early. She can't be sure where it was coming from though, as was too tired to look out of the window.

Nice atmosphere, lovely grounds, signing in desk made you feel welcome, building is beautiful and old, as we're the friendly ghost, breakfast was beautiful.
Unfortunately had booked for meal on Saturday night, but service was cancelled as owner was busy!!!!!!, playing golf lol, so had to go out and get something to eat, also we had got no charging plugs with us so couldn't charge mobiles, would suggest maybe replacing one of the sockets with up to date socket with usb's on it, also bathroom blind had all mould on it, which let the room down.

Good location for train station, a short walk 15 or so minutes. The house itself was full of old world charm and lovely garden outside with mature trees and nature,I saw a monk jack deer outside my window! The restaurant was large and nicely panelled and the little conservatory that led out to the gardens was pleasant to sit in. The dinner I had was very good as also was the breakfast, including everything I could have wanted.
The TV in the room had some interference but not much and I didn't come to sit and watch TV anyway.

We stayed 2 nights Excellent location close to city centre, very convenient while being quiet. Having its own carpark is a real bonus, a definite plus point The staff lady who served breakfast was really friendly and pleasant, lovely manner The breakfast was very good, generous too, cereals as well as cooked. The poached eggs and scrambled eggs were cooked to perfection, really good We liked the characterful 1920s building, the interior wood panelling, the lovely dining room and lounge Our room had a great view over the large lawns and big cedars, lordly really The bedroom was nicely decorated, very comfortable bed and very quiet for a good night's rest We would stay here again
The en suite was a bit cramped. The building itself overall was a bit shabby and could do with a bit of tlc When we read the negative comments in some other reviews we thought they must be talking about somewhere else as we just didn't recognise a lot of the points made Some downsides but definitely outweighed by the upsides

Friendly welcome on arrival from a very informative host. Free bedroom upgrade from a twin to a ground-floor family room to accommodate my limited mobility mother. Room was spacious and well equipped and I appreciated the spare blanket in the wardrobe. Breakfast was excellent with very friendly and attentive breakfast staff who ensured my dairy allergen mother was well catered for. I loved the wide choice of cold and hot food. Check-out was quick and efficient. Overall we both enjoyed our stay and would definitely return again.
Little things like 1 bedside light not working and that awful waterfall mural on the bedroom wall! Room 9. Overall there were many more things I liked than the small minor distractions I noticed.

Quaint quirky beautiful old building set in lovely evergreen grounds. Felt like you were staying in an old relatives house. Very welcoming very relaxing we all absolutely loved it. The lady who greeted us couldn’t do enough we were a mixed age family visiting family in Ely we had one year old twins and a six year old with us and we were well catered for. Breakfast was really nice with plenty of choice.
Water pressure not very good for shower but to be expected for age of property. Family room was in the attic which was up too many flights of stairs would have been better on lower floor.

We see a number of negative reviews on here, but we don't understand why. It's an incredibly friendly place. The staff are really helpful. Our room was ready 4 hours before check-in so they gave us the keys. It's in a very central location and has free parking. For the price it's a steal. Would definitely stay again.
The only negative was the shower. The water pressure is quite low, but not a disaster. Would benefit from power showers, but then the price would go up. For what you pay there it's great value.
