Have stayed here twice before when we got married and renewed our vows. It's the perfect little getaway, friendly, clean and staff helpful and polite. Breakfast is lovely with a good choice and the restaurant food reasonably priced and delicious.

Only gripe I have is with the dogs next door and their incessant barking. We came back around 12.30am and they were outside barking. Early morning to barking. Not to bad if you close windows but it was warm so we had ours open, unfortunately meant we had to listen to it.

The main building was great ..very nice staff looking after us veey well.

I didn't like being outside of the main building in what looked like an old toilet block.. we were out in room 5 which smelled damp and was freezing cold. The carpets didn't reach the skirting boards..mould in the very tiny shower room.. also the noise from our neighbours until the early hours of the morning was ridiculous..we had our daughters wedding next day so we were up early all feeling knackered....leaving next morning to walk across for breakfast we were faced with glasses ..broken glass. Cigarette ends and Crushed disposable lighters. Staff dealt with it well, but later found out that people were actually living in this block..I would not of booked here knowing this.

The staff at solway Lodge were all very friendly and approachable. The room was small but plenty big enough for myself and a good base for the night. The food was delicious, I had an evening meal upon arrival then breakfast both mornings of my visit.

Unfortunately, through no fault of the staff, I had practically zero sleep on my first night which was frustrating as i had a wedding the following day and had come the night before as to get a decent night's sleep prior to the wedding instead of travelling the morning of the wedding. Guests lodging next door were up all night drinking and shouting outside of the annexe and had smashed glasses outside of my room..again, the was beyond the control of the hotel but definitely wasn't ideal.

We chose the Solway to stay due to its prime location and also its facilities ie it had free parking and a bar and resturant on site . I emaWeiled tge property a few days prior to arrival and asked if we could park their way before we could get checked in because we were travelling up from newcastle and our freinds from Glasgow and response was yes no problem at all..... The rooms were lovely and clean and spacious The drinks were great and a good choice and we ate their on the evening and the food and service we received was fantastic. All the staff were lovely and very freindly nothing a problem for them. The breakfast we had in the morning was lovely and plenty of choice. We cant wait to return... Thank you...

We like the location for us is spot on for why we are in Gretna

I didn't find the staff friendly the young girl on reception was very rude when we turned up. Most of the staff in the evening in the bar and restaurant were more interested with talking to each other and being on phones. On the Sunday morning the young lad in the breakfast room didn't have a clue he put stuff on our table twice which was for the table behind!all that said on the Monday morning in the breakfast room she was spot on and a credit to your hotel very nice warm and friendly. Loved the room Number 4 only down side was the pillows very cheap and too flat , we stayed here last year and it was fab not as good this year tho was maybe next year it will be somewhere else they are plenty to choose from.

The room opened onto the car park, which was excellent because it was easy to take the dogs out. I liked the lobby area as well, it made the room quieter that it would have been without. The room was very clean and had everything we needed. It needed some basic maintenance including new light bulbs. I could not read in bed because it was not bright enough with 2 bulbs not working. The bed was very uncomfortable, the room would benefit from a better mattress. The evening meal was really nice and portions were very large and value gor money. The restaurant is a little dated and would benifit from a refresh. The breakfast was okay, the sausages were cheap, and could be replaced with a nicer one. The room is value for money and I would stay here again.

The location is ideal, especially for the Gretna shopping outlet and less than a mile from the M6. We've dined at Solway Lodge many times before but this was our first overnight stay.The food and drink was excellent as usual.

The room we stayed in was very comfortable but the en-suite bathroom was small. The shower was tiny for someone who is 6'2 and needed a corner shelf for toiletries.

We travelled up to Gretna on the day of our friends wedding, the hotel was very accommodating and allowed us to have an earlier check in time. We stayed in a Lodge and it was lovey and clean. Nice big shower, modern and nicely decorated. In the room was a hairdryer, nice sized wall mounted tv and tea and coffee making facilities. We had the twin room and the beds were very comy. We slept soundly and didnt hear any outside noise at all. It was cold when we arrived but we turned the radiator up and it warmed up quickly. The staff were very friendly and chatty. We had lunch in the bar, which was reasonably priced and tasted great. Lots of options like toasties, sandwiches, jacket potatoes, and burgers. Breakfast was fantastic the next morning. We opted for two Scottish breakfasts that came with toast and tea or coffee. There were other breakfast options available, including a vegetarian choice, cereal, and fresh fruit and juice available for you to help yourself. The location was perfect for what we needed and also pet friendly (although we didn't bring our pet this time). We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to friends and family

Nothing really. The decor in the bar/dining room was a bit dated and maybe an extra waitress on at breakfast time to ensure that there was juice, bowls, etc available at the self-service area, but this in no way detracted from our enjoyment of our stay.
