The staff were lovely. Went above and beyond. There was a 21st party happening on the Saturday, and though loud (as a party should be!), the sound was handled well, and we barely heard anything in our room. Exceptional breakfast choice.

The room was a little stuffy but we were provided with a floor fan. This is presumably due to the age of the building plus the rooms' extra soundproofing/double glazing. The water pressure in the shower was too much and flooded the bath floor, but we mopped it up and were given replacement bath towels with zero fuss. The shower did not get too hot but it was manageable. Parking can be a little stressful due to capacity.

Your staff were lovely and helpful everywhere. Room was lovely and spacious although the duvet was quite low down and I had to move the pillows down! Window did not lock, and as it was immediately at the outdoor fire escape, should have been lockable. I felt a little nervous knowing anyone had easy access but this is fixable. (Do it soon, B4 someone is robbed otherwise you might get sued!). Bath was too high for us to get into but otherwise a lovely room and sink and lighting, etc, for such a lovely old building. The staff make the place!

Sorry, I've mixed the good and the bad together, above. The complimentary breakfast because of the noisy guy outside late, was very appreciated. WHY he was in your courtyard is anyones guess. I did ask him politely, 3 times to move further away... Again, all your staff are lovely and made the difference, helped with our suitcase and you have a lovely place. We have an excellent Handyman, but he's not close to you! Get someone to fix the sash window however they can. A good carpenter will save you forking out a lot more if someone has a pricey camera or anything else of quality. Hazel (and Michael!) We're now back in the UK and living in Macclesfield, Cheshire.

The staff were very lovely and very accommodating, I was travelling for work and had a family emergency that I had to return home for. The staff were very helpful in getting the room switched over for my colleague, giving it an extra clean and fresh bedding with no fuss at all. At breakfast each morning the staff were very lovely and made me feel very welcomed. And the breakfast itself was incredible!

The staff were superb. The receptionist moved us from a third floor room to a ground floor room because of my wife's medical problem. I should have requested this when I booked. The bar staff were very pleasant and helpful and the food was brilliant. Faultless staff. Five stars for them.

A little noisy late at night when the younger inhabitants of Hitchin were out and about. The hotel cannot be responsible for that.

After reading the reviews during my stay, I was so glad I didn't read them before staying. Yes there is need of a lick of paint etc but it's over 300 hundred years old. If you want modern then stay at your Travelodge/ Premier Inn etc This hotel has character, it's clean and comfy and the situation is perfect, right in the middle of Hitchin. The staff are helpful and lovely and I will be returning. It was also -1° when I stayed and the hotel was lovely and warm.

Everything else! Bedroom and bathroom clean and comfortable, breakfast tasty and plentiful. Michael- your staff are AWESOME, totally your BIGGEST asset! 100% capable, pleasant and personable (shout out to Michaela, Bonnie, Ellie and Evans, with the widest smile!) And Oscar who amazingly was on only his second shift..? We'll DEFINITELY be back (but please sort the WiFi Greene King)

WiFi, WiFi , WiFi- no use saying 'it's an old building' - I'm sure Windsor Castle is too...? But, if it's not important then all the good points will more than outweigh this (and, as previously mentioned the carpets are a bit grim)

Ate twice for evening meal was tasty and well presented good value for money. Fantastic customer service from all bar/ restaurant staff. Reception check-in and out simple and friendly service. Great location in town centre. Free parking . Late breakfast and 11am check out. The comfiest bed and bedding I've ever slept in.

Clean comfortable and central

Being a thoroughfare from the High St to a carpark. People using the archway to the High St ,and the courtyard for easy access to the carpark late at night ( or very early in the morning ) noisily. Exiting from Club(s) in the High St. An unfortunate but thankfully short interlude very early in the morning. The sole problem. It was a Saturday night.

Had several return visits now, are greeted like returning family - staff DEFINITELY the biggest asset!! Although tired, everything works (eventually; radiator in bathroom very loathe to switch off...!)

Yes, interior is tired - building is old and must be a nightmare to maintain? WiFi is sketchy - if you want to spend your break on social media then it's not for you!

fabulous location in the centre of hitchin. great value for money for a short stay and pet friendly!

Parking is paid for whether you manage to find space in the small hotel car park or the larger car park around the back. the larger car park is blocked for traders from Friday night until Saturday night so need to go to the next one along but it’s only 5 mins walking. Not sure if they were short staffed but service was a little slow in the morning for breakfast and the eggs royale wasn’t the most picturesque, but you can’t expect much at only £7.99! I’d stick to the fry up next time.
