The room was good size but could do with scatter rugs on the wooden floor. Bed was very comfortable Dinner menu not extensive but food is excellent. Dinner service was excellent. Staff were friendly and welcoming Location is in an extremely pleasant and quiet neighbourhood.

I couldn't get the underfloor heating in the bathroom to work. Breakfast is not served until 0800 - but when it comes, it is good. Breakfast was NOT included in my room rate

The staff, Tom and the beautiful blonde that worked with him (we forgot her name) we’re so helpful and attentive! The grounds and fresh air a plus. Our bed was very comfortable. The food was superb!

Nothing!

Quiet and comfortable. A nice room with good bathroom. Dog friendly and an EV charger on site. Good beer garden and friendly staff.

Please… do not serve a burger on a wooden board, only just wider than the burger itself. I don’t want to have to eat my meal off the table as it slides around. Plates were asked for and brought quickly enough, but the nonsense with the board could have been avoided. The photograph of the pub on the Booking website isn’t up to date. There is now a cream awning all along that elevation.

Fantastic bed. Spacious room. Beautiful bathroom. Super-fast WiFi! Alana is a fantastic host.

Uncomfortable with all the heated stuff that had been left “on” which is wasteful economically and sustainability-wise too. I couldn’t find instructions on how to switch it all off. I run a sustainability start-up so probably more sensitive than most. Dinner that night -pie/mash was excellent and good value for money. Breakfast was, if I’m completely honest, not nearly as good and not good value for money either.

Breakfast was good, but would have liked to have had a pot of coffee or tea, instead of cups which went cool quite quickly. There was no toast or marmalade on the tables, and no cereals on offer. Over all a good breakfast , and quite good choice. We did have an evening meal, just a main meal with no starter and no dessert, along with a beer and glass of wine. Food delicious, but felt the price for the evening meals and full english breakfast was quite expensive. Owner and staff very helpful, and easy access to room and restaurant made easy, as my husband was in a wheel chair. One slight dislike was that our shower room, although absolutely beautiful, had one flaw, that being the the shower tray was very slippery once you had shower gel on your sponge and floor. No grab rails in shower unit to hold on to, and my husband would be total unable to use the shower for safety reasons. Hoping that this would be taken as formative information and not unpleasant criticism. Over all a very lovely stay , with lovely staff, and amazing peaceful location.

An excellent room, beautiful location and warm, friendly staff. Newly appointed rooms surrounding a landscaped courtyard (separate from the pub and reminiscent of a roman villa), a relaxed, well-appointed dining pub and a pleasant, leafy beer-garden all add to the sense of discovering, and revelling, in a real hidden gem.

No evening meal available on Sunday evening - which was the day we arrived. I knew this before we booked (so it wasn't a surprise) and it is understandable considering the remoteness of the location and the expense and complications of keeping staff on site if you wanted to offer a service on Sunday. However, considering the adventurous, maybe older (and perhaps somewhat affluent) demographic who would LOVE this establishment, the lack of a Sunday service does seem to be a major misstep.

We stayed in a chalet, which was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The shower was lovely and there was everything provided, from shampoo and soap to cotton buds and a shaving kit: excellent! The mattress was comfy and the pillows good quality: the room was really nicely decorated and a large tv, a kettle with a selection of teas and coffees were available. The pub itself was also a nice place to be: the staff were very friendly and helpful and the grounds were beautifully well-kept. We had dinner at the premises, which we thought was a little expensive, but when it came, the portions were large and the food was absolutely lovely. We did hear a little noise from the adjoining chalets but nothing too disturbing.

The Crown and Garter is a little out of the way, which was good for us but might be a little inconvenient for others

Staff were very helpful and friendly. The location was perfect for Highclere Castle. The rooms were clean and well designed and the bed was very comfortable. We booked an evening meal - the service was really good and the food delicious. Breakfast was table service and there was a good choice of food on the menu. Full English was delicious. The American friends we travelled with loved staying at the pub and also felt the rooms were really well appointed. A bonus was a craft market next morning in the village hall.

We had an issue with the set up of our room as they had not received the email from the agency that deals with booking.com re our room set up despite the affirmative email I received.. Paul the Manager sorted it quickly and could not have been more helpful. It wasn't his fault. Tommy the waiter, was communicative and polite and able to manage to bar etc on his own. I used to have a restaurant many years ago. I would have hired him in an instant. The Crown and Garter was very comfortable. We stopped over because we were visiting Highclere Castle. I think they should put this as one of the places to stay in. I had a burger in the evening and usually it's okay however this was really good. So when thinking of a burger and sigh the think again. This was worth eating. `I was tired and didn't fancy anything else so can't judge the menu properly. What I will say is that the staff put a lot of effort into this place and they are the ones that make it, although the rooms are really comfortable. If travelling there again as I probably will I would choose the Crown and Garter to stay in.

Whatever issues we had the staff sorted them out so no problem. The issue I think is between the communication from Booking.com and the the hotel or agency that they use. The hotel staff were brilliant, communicative, helpful and despite being busy had the time to talk to customers. A rare gift.

Spacious modern room and ensuite. Nice big bed with good quality bedding. Quiet so a good night's sleep especially with curtains that block out the light. Staff lovely and though there is no fridge in the room the staff were very generous with supplying me with fresh milk for my incessant tea making :-) Nice outdoor communal terrace area to sit in when the weather is good.

The croissant in their honesty café next door on the following morning was stale. Though we didn't have the hotel breakfast this time we've had the same experience in the past of disappointing pastries at breakfast. Very strange since they seem to run a café next door.
