This was my 2nd visit in 3 years. I chose The Carnarvon Arms as it’s in a great location to visit Highclere Castle. I enjoyed my first visit and had no hesitation in staying again. The room and bathroom were very clean and comfortable. The bar and restaurant are smart with comfortable chairs with a cosy atmosphere. The food is delicious. However, one area that does need some attention and hadn’t changed from 3 years ago is the tidiness and look of the exterior and interior paintwork on doors, skirting boards etc. The paintwork on the windows is peeling off in great chunks in a lot of areas, which is a shame as a lot of effort has gone in to the beautiful flowers and hanging baskets.

As written above

The Staff were so friendly & welcoming, nothing is too much trouble for them, Carnarvon Arms is a fab place, full of character and serves delicious food, with cosy surroundings. We stayed a couple of nights & the beds were divine, the comfiest thing I've slept on in a long time.

Our room looked out onto a brick wall, which is ok but the Fire Exit was next to our room window & people were using it and could look right into our bedroom. This was only during the day and actually made us laugh. You wouldn't want to get caught with your pants down, would you 😂

Stylish traditional pub with extension for a dozen bedrooms. Comfy bed, great bed linen, small well-equipped bathroom, decent shower. Nice range of teas, coffee machine, homemade cookie a sweet touch in every sense. Excellent breakfast served quickly and pleasantly in lofty dining room - request for cappucino (not on menu) met with real grace. And it was very good.

I don't know why you'd choose to paint a fairly dark room in varying shades of greeny greigy brown - it has a lowering effect on both the ceiling and the spirits... And what I hadn't realised was that the A34 (a busy road) was just on the other side of the garden wall. Our window looked onto it - a number of the rooms do face the other way - I wished I'd known this top tip before booking as quiet really matters.

We picked the hotel for it's location near Highclere Castle. Wasn't expecting much, but instead we were treated to a wonderful place to stay, relax, and actually spend quite a bit of time at. Wonderful breakfast's to start off each day, and the food the rest of the day was amazing as well. Such a beautiful place, with lots of room for folks to just relax about, or gather as a group. You'd never know it from the pics on line, but i bet this place could comfortably seat over 150 people for a party, or wedding reception. Amazing... and the staff.. ALL of them, were WONDERFUL.

Honestly, for us, our whole group (and we had 14 folks in 7 rooms) i heard 0 complaints. Everyone had a great time! The place was so nice, so clean, and so accomodating, we hated to leave. My wife is already working on me to try to recreate the pub in our house... oh boy... :).

10 ladies stayed here, ready to visit Highclere Castle on the Sunday. One of the best pubs we have stayed in. The staff was so friendly, very accommodating with one who had allergies, nothing was too much trouble. The food was all fresh and beautifully cooked. Lots of choices on drinks menu. Would definitely recommend and stay again. Lovely restaurant rooms. 10/10. Staff were amazing.

One thing I would have liked is to have more choice of fruit and cut up for breakfast. There was good choice of everything else and all freshly cooked but one slice of melon only on a fruit platter. Would of liked some cit up strawberries, blueberries etc to have with fruit. This is a personal choice but 3 out of our 10 people staying said the same.

I had planned a visit to Highclere Castle, so the location was perfect. The place is very charming, I think is the old carriage house for the castle. My room was very comfortable and spacious. There is a pub onsite that serves food, I had dinner and breakfast on the premises. The breakfast was wonderful, good selection of continental items and cooked hot breakfasts including a vegetarian option.

My room was close to a Motorway so there was traffic noise; however with the window closed it was barely noticeable. I slept with the window open so I could hear it. The dinner food was alright but not great.

Evening manager and bar and restaurant staff were excellent very friendly could not fault them at all. Room clean and comfy

Breakfast was a disaster had to wait for ages to be served not asked if we wanted extra coffee so went and found it myself my breakfast order was wrong I didn’t end up with a breakfast. We wasn’t asked if everything was ok very mood girl doing the breakfast orders she wasn’t happy at all this morning I could hear her moaning at the kitchen staff from where we were sat

The staff were all very friendly and helpful, the garden for the dogs was excellent and the full English was very tasty, the only down side was we were in a room backing onto the busy road so the traffic noise ment we couldn't have the window open at night and it was the very hot weekend, the other thing was we didn't think there was much choice for the dinner menus and apart from the fish and chips and the burger we thought the portions were small, but I would think that has something to do with COVID and trying to save money.but I would definitely go back if I could get a different room as the helpfulness of the staff made our stay, and a special thank you to Malcolm for getting our room ready earlier as we were traveling a long way in the heat .thank you all for a lovely stay.

I would like more choice for dinner but it could be that they haven't got the staff to have a bigger menu.

Great location for visiting Hereclere Castle which was the main purpose for our trip. Friendly staff, clean rooms and great to sit outside and enjoy a wine and meal. The evening meal choices were great and really tasty.

The found the room was quite dark but maybe because it was away down the end of the building. Our dinner the night before was great and was looking forward to the English breakfast, but it wasnt very warm, burnt toast and hard boiled poached eggs which was a disappointment.

Excellent breakfast and friendly and helpful staff made for a very pleasant one night stay. Convenient car parking and a nice bar area also contributed. Care had been taken with the decor in the bedroom as well as the public spaces.

Small bedroom (but with a good sized ensuite). Bedroom window looked straight out onto a fence and overshadowed by trees meant not much natural light. Low level of lighting in bathroom not ideal for shaving or make up application.
