We stayed for one night with our 2 dogs on our way for a short break in Newquay . We was warmly welcomed and taken to our adorable room which was decorated so cozy and homely . The location is picture postcard thatched houses with old red phone box. We took our dogs off for a rural hike that wore them out nicely for our dinner booked later. The restaurant with open kitchen serves the best steak ive ever had cooked to perfection with really good friendly service so impressed! The bed with crispy white linen and pillows was large and very comfortable which is key for us as hubby can suffer a bit with his back. We were confident the breakfast would be good and it was, so enjoyed our stay and will be back in the future.

There was nothing we didnt like.

The Crown and Anchor is off the beaten path and a wonderful place to get away. We drove many narrow, winding roads to find it (part of the adventure for us!). Our room was larger than we expected, beautifully decorated, and comfortable, with a king-sized bed and attached bathroom. We enjoyed lunch in the Crown's pub on the day we arrived, and the breakfast the next morning was quite good. We also enjoyed driving to nearby Hungerford for a walk along the canal and dinner at the Amore Italian restaurant.

Staff were so friendly & a special mention to Ben the manager & Lillie & Bea, who went out of their way to make us feel welcome. As a former Hampshire lady myself now living in Denmark, it was so exciting to bring my Danish husband to Wiltshire, a county he hadn’t seen before. The village is so pretty~ it’s a little tricky to get to with all the tiny country roads, but once you find the village you’ve found a little gem in the Wiltshire countryside! Dinner and breakfast were delicious too!

Nothing!!

We were staying as a family at the Crown & Anchor. It was fantastic! The service (very friendly, Mary's "Good morning!" at breakfast made my day...), the rooms, the food. Situated in a charming small, pittoresque and neat village with very friendly inhabitans. Dinner was also delicious. You would not assume to get such a good meal in the middle of nowhere. Great breakfast. We left (unfortunately had to leave) with very happy faces on the next day and will come back, hopefully, some time.

We can't rate the Crown and Anchor enough. Everyone and everything, especially the food, was exceptional. Room was lovely and comfortable with great facilities and the staff went out of their way to make you feel welcome. It's in a beautiful village and we went on a 2 and a half hour walk where we saw amazing wildlife. The pub can provide detailed walks of varying lengths. Food was stunning and great quality wine. Decor is lovely.

That we only had 24 hrs there, could have stayed much longer.

Smiling, welcoming staff. Superb rooms, modern, contemporary fittings and decor. Superb food, way beyond what one may expect in a pub. Definitely a gastro pub. Chocolate box village too, ancient church. Would definitely recommend a visit to this pub.

Dinner bill added 12.5% or was it 15%? I know I could have removed this, but I am old fashioned, if I believe I've had a good meal and the service was good, then I wish to tip accordingly - I don't want an establishment's 'suggested' tip automatically added to my bill. Our room, which was fine, overlooked the staff smoking area which meant we did get whiffs of cigarette smoke coming in through the windows - which we like to have open. Only a small issue and I could have asked to be moved - but that seemed petty.

lovely property, beautifully appointed and decorated. we were welcomed by a friendly chap and offered a drink from the bar which we enjoyed. Our room, Wansdyke was stylish and roomy, a huge bed with quality bedding. However. it would have been good to have a few hangers as there wasn’t a wardrobe, due to the geography of the room, and no drawers. Our supper was very nice, we had nibbles from the menu to start and then my husband had a tasty and filling cod dish. I chose the duck which was also tasty although the skin wasn’t crispy. it was also a little small dish overall. Good wines and service. Breakfast was ok. A little greasy overall, especially the black pudding and mushroom. A very pleasant lady served us.

lack of hanging space as I said.

Wonderful location; bar has books to show you local walks from the B&B. Food was lovely; breakfast was excellent. Staff seem to have a stake in the business / family owned; very attentive and professional customer service. Room was a good mixture of tasteful details but not too fussy; quality products in bathroom and little details like nice teas and coffee bags make for a nice and notable touch.

For a booking that was last min' and a bit on a whim, I was / we were very pleasantly surprised. There wasn't anything we felt was lacking here.

The pub decorations for Xmas were so beautiful and amazing. They had a magnificent private room, delightful lounge by the bar with really comfortable seating. The staff went above and beyond to assist you, really helpful with constant smiles. The food was delicious with some original ideas

Need to put a dog proof rug in the bedrooms to protect the light carpets especially, when the weather is wet, with muddy paws.

Our cosy double room was very comfortable with attractive traditional-meets-modern decor. The staff were friendly, welcoming and very well organised making us feel looked after on a busy Christmas Eve. The exceptional part of our stay was the dinner (not included in the room price of course) which was superb and something we would return for.

The room was well-appointed but a little on the small side. If we had stayed longer than one night we would have preferred a room with a wardrobe, although I'm sure if we had made enquiries then we could have booked a room with a wardrobe. This was only a minor issue - overall the room was lovely.
