Overall, excellent, and will definitely be back, we both found our accommodations to be warm, comfortable, and clean, proving that the owners and staff have exacting standards... Great gate-way location for exploration of Cumbria and the Lake District... The food in the bar is excellent, with plenty to choose from, with daily specials on, a good wine list and desert specials... It's also obvious that the providence of the produce is both local and of a very high standard, and was much enjoyed...

Very little, I would be nit-picking, and the items that come to mind will possibly be rectified by the next visitors' stay... One of the door knobs was looseon the bedroom door. The pillows a little too dense for us both (but that's subjective) and as our stay was 4 nights, a few more options for breakfast would be good - (though we stayed off season, this may well be different 'in-season') ...

Very friendly staff and very clean spacious room The Bennet both a large bath and shower. The breakfast was excellent though cut down on the order on day two due to quantity. We also had two evening meals there and were not disappointed. One suggestion maybe offer the evening meal with a small discount otherwise very good all round thanks for both of us.

Our double room was the perfect size for our 2 nights stay. It had a fridge, tea and coffee facilities (including fresh milk), a comfortable good sized bed, plenty of wardrobe space, a nice powerful shower in a decent sized bathroom. There was also extra storage on the wide window cill and bedside tables. Food downstairs was amazing, and reasonably priced, so would definitely recommend trying that out for your evening meal if you are staying - just be sure to pre-book.

I was in Cumbria for a wedding party and chose the Hare and Hounds as a convenient place to stay as I came by train. It is an absolute gem. Lovely room, big bathroom with a bath and separate shower very nicely appointed. Fantastic food both at breakfast and dinner. The staff were absolutely lovely which you need when travelling alone. I stayed an extra night. Even without a car there are sights to see in easy walking distance: Sizergh (NT), Levens Hall.

Nothing, everything was super

We spend 4 nights here and the breakfast included is really good. Room was very clean and comfortable. Nice little touches and like homemade brownies and jars of milk instead of plastic packaging. The inn is in an nice village with superb village shop close to RSPB Leighton Moss and Foulshaw Moss. We ended up eating there every night as food was really nice and quite different from an usual pub grub and staff were brilliant. Would come back in future

The guidebook in the room was very helpful and provided information about things to do in the Lake District area, by foot or car. I took a 45 minute walk around the nearby farm and enjoyed quiet, scenic views. The unit we stayed in consisted of a large living room, full kitchen, bedroom, and bath with shower and tub. We had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant, both meals were scrumptious. There was a great vibe at dinner and it was clear that this is not just a spot for guests, but also popular with the locals. Parking was available just across the street. We would definitely stay here again.

Warm and friendly hosts. We were shown to our room and given an overview of the facilities, how often do you receive a personal touch like this on check in? A great first impression which carried on right through our stay. We had a very comfortable room, a great dinner in the relaxed bar and restaurant area. We each had at the turkey dinner , these were the best turkey dinners we have had served anywhere. Breakfast was excellent, with morning papers available to peruse, another rarity these days.

We broke a journey from London to Edinburgh so it was ideally located. Lovely people. Clearly a popular pub. Good, hearty food. Great breakfast.

Not that I didn’t like it but I went in to dinner looking at a starter, main course and dessert but I passed a main course on the way and realised I wasn’t up to the challenge. There is also a tree opposite the dining room that eats the view of the Lyth Valley that they must wish would fall over one night.

We've stayed here before and although this room was smaller than the previous one it was also very well fitted out and everything was clean, well kept-up and comfortable. The staff are very friendly and you can choose to eat in a pub or a restaurant atmosphere, depending on whether you have a dog with you. We chose the stylish restaurant but both areas had a good atmosphere. We enjoyed our dinner and the breakfast, also in the restaurant, was excellent.

Another vegetarian main course option for dinner would be good. Some more soft furnishings in the restaurant could make it a bit quieter as it was quite noisy in there.

The room was very comfortable and more spacious than we expected. It was the epitome of what we expected a country pub to be like with winding stairs and country roads running past the windows but with facilities upgraded to modern comfort levels. Staff were friendly and helpful and the food was excellent, befitting a pub with a well earned reputation for a good menu.

We loved it.
