July 2024

I visited London for a long weekend trip, and not wanting to spend the fortune that a hotel in the city costs, I chose YHA St. Paul. I had the bad luck of getting a stomach virus in the middle of my trip, which kept me the last two days in bed, weak and ill. I was not expecting much from the place in such unfortunate circumstances, but honestly the staff was fantastic. From the reception people, who was extremely accommodating to my needs, to the cleaning staff, who dealt with me around while having to do their duties, and went the extra mile to get me food and water when I could not leave the bed. I will always remember this place for its kindness in a moment of necessity. Regarding facilities, the hostel provides all the elements that one might expect: the bunk beds are ok, in the room there are spacious lockers (require a lock) that fit a cabin suitcase, a large bathroom with shower in the room and several toilets in the corridor nearby. The weekend I spent in London was rather hot (for English weather) but my room was fresh and they added ventilators for more comfort. The hostel also has a restaurant that I did not have the chance to try. Yes, I would definitely return for another weekend trip.

Nothing, really. The lacking facilities and comfort come from the fact that it is a hostel and one shares the room, than anything related to the management of the place.

Location of the hostel was fantastic and so were the breakfasts we had, not to mention excellent value. Staff was incredibly helpful in assisting us with tour bus tickets and general advice. We explored the neighborhood and found dinner options for all of us. We walked over to the Tate Modern and down to the South Bank with our two young children - again, can’t say enough about the location!

We understood that linens would be provided and we wrongly assumed that included towels. It was a bit of a shock to have to pay for towels when we weren’t traveling with any. Not the staff’s fault, but I wish guests had respected the quiet time as I got woken up in the night a few times. Also wish we had shelves to put clothes on during our stay.

I stayed there only for one night but I might stay there again next time I'm in London. Location is good, just next to St. Paul's Cathedral. Bus stop nearby. McDonalds, Tesco and TATE Modern in a walking distance. Room was nice and clean, with own sink. There are two shared toilets and two showers at the same floor. Quite quiet. You can hear the bells from the outside ringing each 15 minutes so earplugs might be handy. I like that I could store my luggage in a locker in the storage room before and after check in/out.

It would be good to have access to a kettle and drinking water at the floor. However, I don't know if there is something like that in other parts of the hostel since I stayed there only one night

Great location about 200m from St Pauls, easy / friendly check-in with staff available 24 hrs. Important to note I stayed in a suite so had the place to myself, it was very nice, spacious, well equiped, immaculately clean and looked as if refurbished not so long ago (or kept to high standard) Bed was very comfy, and kitchen looked good - not that I used it, but it looked good.

Nothing considering the price, parts of the building look a little tired, but considering the prices are a fraction of Budget chain hotels I cannot complain, nor expect 5* hotel levels of oppulence, Well, maybe one thing, the Bells of St Pauls do not have any sort of mute functionality and are loud, even with all windows shut, if you are a light sleeper then bring some earplugs.

We booked a 5ppl family room, they don't have any vacancy on the day so they gave us an 8 ppl room. There's a little courtyard right outside as well. The bathroom and toilet are not too far away, WIFI is strong. The bedsheet seems fresh, the kitchen is massive! properly the biggest kitchen compared to other hostels I stayed before. Super location, 2 mins walk to the St Paul's church, Along with restaurants, bars, and shops. The breakfast looks great but we didn't purchase it.

It's a little far to travel from the front door to our room. The massive kitchen is not available for guests to cook for themselves which is a big shame. It's right next to the St Paul's church so we hear the bell every hour all night.

I was happy there, considering I was quite the oldest, at 71. There were differing school groups, primary and senior. I thought they all behaved very well. Fair enough to say I was in room no 1 in the basement so there was no disturbance for us ladies. I felt comfortable in myself and would definitely tell others...how wonderful I thought to turn the corner of the street every morning to see St. Pauls in all her majesty looming above the city as she has done for centuries. Also the sound of the bells striking the hours...stupendous!

The outer area of the shower has a rubber ? on a wooden handle...the 'dumb' thing is there is nowhere, as in no drain for the water to go too...!

great location, superb staff, building in good condition considering how old and english it was, overall lovely vibe and pleasant relaxed atmosphere, place felt very safe and welcoming for a solo female traveller. very good for a London hostel. oh and the beds were solid and stable, easy to climb on the top bunk, and comfortable!

bathrooms could do with a better ventilation - but again, considering the conditions, it's usually worse, still the best old building hostel in London I've been to

The room was great. most of the roommates were respectful. The staff were exceptional and very friendly. I arrived in the evening and was greeted and looked after. The showers and toilets were clean and in very good condition. The location is second to none in London. Being in Black Friars is a great place to base a London adventure. The towels were clean and breakfast was great. I didn't get chance to eat at night but from what I saw it looked great

because of my late booking, I was on the top floor and I have a bad knee. but in saying that I was ok.

Lovely location, comfortable bed and relaxed room. Quiet area at night, apart from the bells going there are no noises of traffic and things. It is located in a quiet, clean and safe part of London with lots of charm.

The room was too warm and stuffy. Although fans were provided it would be better if the windows were fixed to open further. A floor length mirror would also be good - hello! we are women getting ready to go out in London, we need a mirror!

People at the reception desk were friendly and helped a lot. We had a two bed room. It was simple but comfortable and clean. I was a bit worried about the bell of St. Pauls. But we kept the window close and it was not really loud. Actually I slept quite good. The beds were a bit narrow (less than the 90 cm I'm used to), but the matrasses were comfortable. The toilets and showers were clean and absolutely ok. The full breakfast was good. The continental breakfast alone I would not recommend, as it seemed a bit too little.

There was a bit of a bad smell in the dining area and the staircase. But I had the impression, it got better during the week or I got used to it... It was not really a problem.
