Good location in the town, reasonably priced and decent selection of food and drink.

TV was poorly tuned in and despite a two night stay and requesting something be done about it whilst I was at work on the second day nothing was rectified. In the morning the excuse was given, « well, we only have free view ». Well, I have freebies at home too and it runs to significantly more than channels 1-9, 13, 17, 23, 30 & 70 onwards, with all the gaps filled in. A hotel room, should frankly, be at least as good and offer at least the facilities you have at home, because it has to be your home from home.

The staff are always delightful, always happy, eager to help. On site parking is convenient. The meals that we enjoyed were very nice, good value, served with a smile.

Both mornings at exactly 0600, we were awoken by what sounded like a water tank being filled above our room. This carried on for almost two hours, so no leisurely start to the day. On informing a member of staff they were apologetic and promised to look into it. I hope that they are able to remedy this as it did take the glow from our trip! It seemed to only affect our room, but it was rather disappointing to experience.

The reception staff were lovely, and very helpful with suggestions for an evening restaurant and gift shopping. Nice old building, plenty of room around the bar area to find a bit of privacy. Very comfy bed and large bathroom, our room was also very quiet. Parking onsite was a real bonus. Breakfast was also great, lots of choice including smoked salmon which was delicious.

Not a major gripe, but some of the brown furniture in the bedrooms had seen better days, the window was dirty but I appreciate it would be difficult to get to. Just a few a small things that a handy person could keep on top of.

Check in was quick, satff polite but busy, clean room good for my dogs, locatiopn was great as well as parking

Breakfast didnt include proper coffee machine, only filter coffee with cold milk-not very 2023-was told had to pay extra for a latte or capuccino.Ist breakfast was overcooked, bacon beans and mushrooms shrivelled as just kept super hot Garden area was untidy and lots of rubbish, and lots of worn out grass-needs a refurbish/update,disabled parking too near entrance to room 2 on ground floor so often boxed in by drivers

The staff in the dining room were excellent. Foid, both dining and breakfast was excellent. The location was fabulous, stayed here dozens of times and love it. The free parking was great. The room was spacious and very clean, plenty of fluffy towels, and a bonus for me was being able to have a hot bath as well as a shower.

The main issue we had was that the toilet in room 8 was overfilling and not getting rid of waste. How embarrassing. We reported it but the lady on reception seemed to know about it and just said ' Oh'. sadly nothing was done. I also stated upon leaving that no one should stay in that room until the issue had been resolved. This is a very old building so don' t expect a lie in after 7 am as creaks and footsteps are loud ( not so much of an issue for us). Our main issue was the last order call for residents drinks at 9.40 on the Thusday evening and 9.55 on the Friday evening. This seems a ridiculously early call for a pub restaurant and meant we were in bed both nights before 10.15. I know we' re middle aged but this was extreme!!!

We had a really spacious nicely furnished ‘old fashioned’ room (room 22) with a huge comfortable bed with good pillows and crisp white linens. Good bathroom with bath and shower. The room was at the front of the property looking out over the town but it was still quiet. The breakfast was excellent.

The floor in our room was rather squeaky but that’s ok as it’s a historic building. The downstairs area looked a little shabby with worn carpets but still had a nice atmosphere.

having stayed at the Castle and Ball several times it always is clean and staff very professional. Room very nice, overlooking the large High Street but no intrusive vehicle noise. my only concern was the Duvet, I found it very heavy, yes this is a very personnel observation and should not distract the fact the. bed and other facilities were excellent. the food served was very good both the dinner and breakfast. A bonus it the free parking.

As above the Duvet was heavy for me. the premises staff and food excellent.

The room was very comfortable and commodious. The free car parking, which was the main reason for the selection, very straightforward to access.

I had also picked this hotel because you could eat on site. That turned out to be not so satisfactory. I had the veg roast as it was a Sunday evening. Perhaps it was better at lunchtime but a still frozen in the middle Yorkshire Pudding was a surprise., and while the staff changed it for a freshly microwaved one they seemed utterly nonchalant about how this looked, made no offer of a free drink or the like to compensate, and reinforced the impression of a menu that was reliant on microwaved production. I get that food outlets do prepare stuff in advance, but the microwaved pastry of the wellington was soggy, although the stilton and mushroom inner was good.

The staff are friendly and accommodating. The hotel is about 400 years old; every corridor and floor is wobbly and it's marvellous! Every bedroom is different and quirky.

Given its age, it's not surprising that the infrastructure doesn't support lots of plug sockets in rooms, good ceiling or wall lights, etc but only one bedside table in a twin room was bizarre (lots of room for one more) and no drawers in the room so storage was all in one small wardrobe.

Location and car park were excellent. Food on the whole well priced but some problems , (see what we didnt like box. ) Comfortable bed. Lovely hot shower.

Food lacked presentation and seemed hurried with some items missing from what was described on the menu. Portion sizes varied . Asked for mustard to go with steak and didn't have any on site. Steak meal very basic and not appetising just a basic flat piece of steak, half a very small tomato, small handful of chips, poor for £17.00 Pillows lumpy. Only 2 sachets of milk and 2 ordinary tea bags so had to go to reception to ask for a couple more. Cobwebs hanging over dressing table and in corner of bedroom by window.
