The choice of breakfast was wonderful. I loved the porridge! There were several young staff who were so personable and had clearly been well trained. The service was great! My single room was ideal. I would have loved a view but I was there for a walking holiday so experienced the beauty of the Eildon Hills and beyond each day which was magical especially as the weather was perfect! The first floor lounge was a little haven after a tough walk and the hotel was warm and inviting with a lovely traditional decor. It was my first visit to the Borders and it did not disappoint nor did the Burts Hotel. Haste ye back - I definitely will! Fran

This is a small very comfortable hotel with a lovely relaxed atmosphere well situated in the centre of Melrose. If you are looking for a change from big impersonal chain hotels, I recommend Burts. The food is exceptionally good and service excellent. We enjoyed our stay here very much.

There is no lift in the hotel. When I booked on-line, I don't remember seeing any advisory about this for disabled people or those with walking difficulties. We had been allocated a room up two flights of stairs; we had to change this for a room on the first floor which incurred extra charge. My partner has a knee problem and would not have been able to climb the second steeper flight of stairs.

First trip to Melrose. This has obvioisly been a watering hole and stopover point for many many years. It still retains the old world charm and Melrose is a pretty clean and tidy borders town. Food was excellent, I had the Burns supper as I was there on the 25th January. Room was clean tidy with everything you would need. Bed was super comfy and made with Hospital corners, something you don't see very often in hotels these days. Bathroom suite slightly dated but perfectly clean and functional with a nice shower cubicle.

On thing of note was the price of a bottle of wine in the restaurant. Nothing below £25 for a bottle!! That being said there's a local shop 100yds from the hotel. You could buy your own and drink it in your room if that is your bent!!

Very comfortable rooms, lovely fabrics, huge bed. Old style bathrooms but very clean, great water pressure and hot water. The hotel was old style, very comfortable, nice bar area for coffee and great food both in the evening and for breakfast, good service. Wood burner on all day in the bar area so although it was winter we were so cosy. So easy to walk out of the door and be in the centre of pretty Melrose with its choice of independent shops, cafes and pubs. Wonderful walks along the river.

The evening dinner was tremendous, as evidenced by a full dining room and bar area on a Monday night when it is quiet elsewhere. Breakfast too was really good with a great range of choices. The hosts were fabulous too as were their committed staff. I booked a single room as a solo traveller and was made to feel very welcome. I will definitely stay again when I am visiting the area.

Lovely, friendly staff - check in and check out were a breeze! Beds were so comfortable, the tea and coffee facilities were great (also decent sized mugs!). Breakfasts were great - first day I had the full Scottish and I couldn't finish it, the second day I went for the smoked haddock and poached eggs. Suppers were amazing - massive fish and chips! Decent range of whisky behind the bar, plus Timothy Taylor Landlord on tap.

This hotel is perfectly situated in the middle of Melrose whilst being a quiet haven. The staff are exceptionally helpful and friendly and the owners are clearly doing a good job in training them. Breakfast was very varied and delicious . We had a very good dinner one night too. No complaints and we would definitely stay again.

breakfast menu was quite comprehensive but not buffet style. breakfast served in formal restaurant on the morning of my stay (instead of the bar), offered toast but no other breads. asked for fruit yoghurt for my cereal as cannot take milk in the morning, no fruit yoghurt available only natural yoghurt. would have expected a bit more variety at burts.

Everything was great. A clean room and bathroom is if the utmost importance to me and I was not disappointed. I had dinner in the restaurant and was really surprised at how good it was. I thought it was just going to be bistro-like but it was way beyond that. All the staff (check in, bar, restaurant, cleaning, and breakfast) were friendly and smiley and helpful.

The room was clean, comfortable & well-equipped. The bed was very comfortable, the bed linen & towels of good quality. All the staff were charming and the food excellent.

Our room on the top floor had the kitchen extractor fan outside the window which was very noisy until service finished.
