Such a romantic, comfortable hideaway right out on the moor. We arrived in the dark through beautiful locations with bats flying around the car and we were also late but owners insisted on looking after us and feeding us anyway. Food was absolutely outstanding and finished off with a birthday glass of champagne 🍾 Had a great chat with Simon after a lovely breakfast and he showed us the old church behind the property and gave us a load of history on it and on local sights. Room was comfy and clean and the bed super comfy. Great place :)

The setting, the staff, the food, the decor, the ambiance - everything about our 2 nights at Notley Arms was a lovely experience. We would highly recommend to others visiting the area.. Monksilver is a beautiful village and very convenient base for exploring Exmoor. Simon & Caroline are exceptional hosts treating each guest as special and have so much information about the whole area to share. The accommodation has character and lots of nice touches and is spotless. Never seen a cleaner shower anywhere on our travels - including at home!! Thanks for a wonderful time!

Sound proofing between rooms was slightly distracting but we understand how hard it is to achieve perfection in an old listed building full of character & beautifully restored.

The Notley Arms is located in a quiet village in Monksilver and is a family run business. Caroline greeted us with a huge smile and great sense of humour, exactly what you expect from a family business. The comfy rooms are in a separate building next to the pub. The pub itself is spacious and has lots of space to relax. We went with our dog to celebrate my wife’s birthday and we spent our evening sitting by the fire relaxing. Simon (the co owner) could not do enough for us and spoiled our dog each day with treats. If you like great pub food with fine wine selection, in a great location, genuinely dog friendly and a great base for exploring Exmoor National Park, then book yourself a weekend at the Notley Arms. Thank you Simon and Caroline for looking after us. Chris, Lisa and Buddy.

Deep in the green heart of the Quantocks, on the border of the Exmoor National Park, lies the tiny community of Monksilver. Located just a stone's throw from the parish church (where Sir Francis Drake was married) is the Notley Arms Inn. Mine hosts Simon and Caroline, friendly and informative, really do go the extra mile not only to make you feel welcome but to ensure that your stay is memorable. The food is excellent, and makes good use of fresh local produce, the accommodation is homely and comfortable - the sort of peaceful traditional country inn you just know you will be returning to at the earliest opportunity.

Nothing springs to mind.

Really lovely and helpful staff, beautiful decor. The evening menu was extensive and of clearly great quality throughout. I had a calamari with ‘slightly spiced’ mayonnaise starter, followed by a lamb shank with creamy mash and a jus. All absolutely delicious. More expensive than an average pub menu but this is definitely more of a restaurant than a pub and the food I had I considered great value. Breakfast was equally delicious. Will definitely return.

The warm welcome, Simon and Caroline are excellent hosts! The room was spacious with a great view, the bed really comfy, bathroom had everything we needed. The rooms were seperate from the Inn which meant they were quiet. We thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast and had an excellent evening meal - loved the bar & garden, both very relaxing and Simon ensured our glasses remained full as we sat and chatted in the bar and enjoyed a relaxing evening with family which we'd not done in years. Most important it's dog friendly!!

There's nothing we didn't like - a very minor comment for the sake of saying something the rooms could do with a very small fridge, our family had bought cheese in Cheddar and needed to keep it cool overnight. My 92 year old Mum climbed the stairs easily (rooms are on the first floor) but couldn't get into the shower above the bath (the shower is excellent) - not a problem as we were there just overnight (twice) but worth noting for other potential guests.

This place is a hidden gem, The Notley Arms is a privately owned pub/restaurant/ accomodation run by Simon and Caroline. The hosts with the most warmth/ care and attention to their guests. I was welcomed by Simon, who clearly loves what he does, they are both people’s people. The interior is beautifully styled, I could have stayed for a week. To eat I had a ribeye steak cooked to perfection by Bryony, the best steak and chips I’ve had in years, why do so many pubs get it wrong? Bryony is also a fountain of local knowledge, with lots of tips on great hidden places to walk and visit. I came for the weekend on my motorbike and was made to feel at home. Simon and Caroline cooked and served up a lovely breakfast, all excellent quality local produce. There’s not many places like this in the whole of the UK, as Arnie says,’ I’ll be back’!!!

The property was absolutely stunning, the coach house where the rooms are situated - beautiful and the room was decorated with lovely wallpaper. The cushioned window seats were my favourite feature, sitting there with a cup of tea was just divine. There was a fantastic edition of a French press in the room with ground coffee which I’ve never had in a room before - this really made my morning as I love a cup of freshly brewed coffee when I get up.

Nothing at all.

Extremely comfortable, large room for us to relax in. Just a short distance to the main building where we enjoyed a delicious evening meal and then breakfast next morning, within very lovely surroundings with so many interesting pictures and ornaments to look at. Extremely friendly hosts who enthusiastically told us about their property history as well as the fascinating art collection. An added bonus, and reason for booking, was that we could take our dog along with us too. Set in wonderful countryside with walks from the Inn and a very pretty village church. Would highly recommend to others and return to ourselves if we return to this area on our travels.

Noisy fan in wet-room, which took a while to stop.
