Lovely location, seems a characterful and popular venue for food, and a great menu choice with different diets accommodated. Food service incredibly quick and efficient - would definitely wish to eat here again. Venue itself has lots of different areas in which to sit, with bright and airy restaurant that still managed to feel almost cosy, looking out onto lovely garden. Staff really nice and accommodating. Room comfortable and spacious. Ideal location for events at Englefield House a short distance away, which is why we booked it - we will definitely use again!

Sometimes a little noisy due to location/road - it is a pub after all! Would have preferred a little more soundproofing perhaps, both in the room and the bathroom (bit of an echo, and this bathroom had a fire exit door opening directly onto corridor which was a bit disconcerting!) Noise travel about the only issue.

The room is easily accessed - very spacious, warm, clean and a comfortable bed. The en-suite is a large room with a big walk in shower (lots of hot water).

The cooked breakfast had undercooked fried eggs, undercooked black pudding and overcooked bacon. No toast offered after. Sourdough bread only. A bowl of yogurt with a little granola sprinkled over and a small spoonful of defrosted mixed fruit. Think I'm out of date with breakfast. Pulls on headboard and throw on bed (dogs allowed on the bed)?

A wonderful stay with fabulous people who made us very welcome. Great staff who were able to help with anything we needed. The cottage room was excellent for dogs and beautifully decorated, very comfortable and spacious with great bathroom and shower. We loved the location, great walks nearby and idyllic setting. The breakfasts were delicious as were the evening meals. Just a great place with a wonderful atmosphere.

Been here lots of times. Always a pleasant stay as we have family that live near by. Had a garden room which is lovely. Very special place to stay. Would highly recommend. The evening meal was nice albeit a few things off the menu but then it was a Sunday Breakfast is very good but always feel bad for the staff doing breakfasts, they are serving everyone as best as they could (server was lovely) and checking people out of their rooms at the same time so I believe they could do with a little more help!

my daughter's said in her room there was little hot water coming out of the shower over the bath so decided to take a bath instead where apparently it was OK! Tea, coffee etc available in our room but could've done with a few biscuits which you normally get in other establishments (just a nice touch in my opinion!). Shower gel in shower was nearly empty so took top off rather than using the pump action, the other bottles were not that full either. Not a massive problem but should be checked out.

Initially they messed up but were able to accommodate 2 rooms close to each other. Food is excellent. Rooms were comfortable. Staff is really great and very helpful.

They assigned 2 rooms in 2 different corners of the property. It was a real hassle to get the rooms changed so we were close together as a family. Overall it worked in the end, but totally puzzling to me why would they assign rooms so far apart despite my request during the booking.

The room we had was lovely, it had a large area for our child to sleep in a travel cot (we brought) which was nice to be slightly separate. Dinner was great, a good wine list and breakfast was delicious! Staff are lovely and always helpful.

Naturally this is a pub with rooms so there was some noise in the early evening (up to about 10-11ish), but that is to be expected for this type of place!

The room ('Winchester')was spacious and comfortable with a sitting area, to and comfortable double bed. The dining room was excellent and there was an easily accessible outside garden seating area.

Our only criticism is that the shower in our en-suite was rather tepid and low pressure, and I do like a good hot shower. I don't know if this is due to the age of the original property, but it is something they need to address, maybe with an electric shower or power shower. We did have to ask for toilet rolls and the toilet brush hadn't been cleaned thoroughly, which was a little off putting. We checked in at 20.00, so I'm sure these things could have been checked beforehand. I can only imagine there had been some staff issues on the Sunday we checked in.

Our room was separate from the rest of the hotel. It was excellent with french windows out to a small garden shared with the next door room. The bathroom and shower were great. Breakfast on the Sunday was delicious though on Monday it was a bit below previous quality. The staff without fail were exceptionally friendly and dinner on both evenings of both of good quality and value for money. I'd thoroughly recommend the Royal Oak as a place to stay when touring. The building and village are both interesting and the public spaces in the hotel are very comfortable.

The drain in the shower need to be cleaned as the water didn't drain properly. I can't think of anything else. We enjoyed out stay.

Our rooms were next to each other, as requested, both a decent size with very good sized bathrooms. We ate in the restaurant the first night and the food was excellent. The outside seating area was beautiful with the added bonus of red kites flying overhead.

Although the WIFI was free you have to keep logging in to it at hourly or so intervals to keep using it. Some items from both the evening menu and the breakfast menu weren't available.
